I'm turning 29 this year. It's crunch time. I'm a little bummed that I have not met a lot of goals I had unrealistically set for myself when I first entered my 20s. Like, traveling the world, making $75K a year, becoming some event planner extraordinaire to the celebs, etc.
But as I sip on my cold brew coffee, and write this on my break at work.. I have to say there are things I accomplished that I never thought I was going to do before 30.
-Get a tattoo. (New goal: get another one!)
-Get married! (As an Asian woman, my parents made sure I only focused on school/work/money... so I never worried about marriage or even thought I was going to get married.)
-Live on my own. (There was a time when I thought I was going to have to move back in with my parents, and admit to them that I had "failed"... now my parents won't stop wondering when I will move back because I shouldn't be away from them. Ever.)
-Lose weight and enjoy exercise. (I have struggled with my weight since birth. Early 2014 I set forth to lose weight because my doctor told me I was above my weight group. In May, when I turned 28 and saw pictures of me in a bikini, the truth finally hit me hard in the face--I needed to FULLY 110% commit to a healthier lifestyle. Working out 2x at a gym for 30-60 min was no longer cutting it. I started taking spin classes at SparkCycle (similar to SoulCycle but better!), and S-L-O-W-L-Y I started feeling and seeing results. The icing is when my friends and FAMILY noticed the weight loss. #SUCCESS. I never thought I would be this dedicated, and I am in love with working out now. My new goal is to stick with this as long as I can and maybe expand into other fitness styles.)
-Enjoy coffee... that isn't from Starbucks. (K, I gotta admit. I still can't explain the difference between pour-overs, or how cold brew really works, but I can definitely tell the difference between local coffee shops v. Starbucks. I really love the craftsmanship that goes into my coffee and I can tell my coffee doesn't taste like charred coffee grinds. It's so hipster of me.)
-Find a boss who supports my professional growth. (I've talked about this in the past, so I won't repeat myself. But finding a place you enjoy working at, with a great support system is so important for my sanity. I'm still pretty poor compared to some of my more successful friends, but I've got enough money to save up slowly for a wedding, feed feyonce and I, and not resort to starting a Kickstarter to pay for my rent. So, I call that a minor successful milestone in my career path!)
-Color my hair purple, blue, and teal. (yeah, I was cool once.)
-GO TO COACHELLA! (I'm such a nerd, but it was one of the best experiences of my 20s. Besides getting a suite at the Wynn Las Vegas.)
Who knows where the next 10 years will take me...hopefully on a path full of traveling adventures. But back to the title of this post.. I really want to add one more tattoo to my body before I hit 30.
