Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary and Molesley Finally Share a Kiss! [x]
my favourite thing about ‘thomas will be george and sybbie’s carson’ is that like, yes, he will, but so much better. and not just because he’s more fun, but think about it: if some suitor hurts sybbie or george? thomas won’t just complain downstairs and keep his feelings professionally filed away upstairs; he will destroy that suitor. he will trip that suitor on the stairs. he will leak that suitor’s deepest secrets to his gossipy butler friend in london. sybbie or george have a difficult problem? thomas will never, ever judge them. sybbie or george have an uncomfortable life question? thomas has the answers, frankly but kindly given. thomas knows all the bawdiest songs and all the newest dances. thomas knows all the best stories. thomas is so much more than carson.
How posh are the cast?
I changed my mind,Thomas should be visiting a show not knowing that jimmy joined the vaudeville show group he is going to see, as Jimmy leaves the stage Thomas decides this is the time to be impulsive because it is his last shot at happiness, he rushes backstage, steals flowers from the guy he bumped into (like a very cheesy movie) and turns up in jimmys changing room. There we go.
I found the perfect reason to draw Jimmy in a dress again. Cabaret
look at him!!!!! smiling like fool!!!
‘I hated thomas’ story line’ inspired old-timey movie poster. Plus I’m kinda back again, Helloooo :)
#Didn’t your mother teach you that it’s rude to stare, Mr Branson?
I forget who posted their ideal ending including Thomas in a Hawaiian shirt, but….
turns out I have no idea how to draw a Hawaiian shirt.
“And that’s the way to do it!”
Okay. I’m gonna be serious for a bit.
The way Thomas’ suicide was portrayed was borderline offensive. As someone who has been in a horribly similar situation to Thomas I found his general storyline extremely upsetting.
At the beginning of the episode there was no warning for distressing scenes or any indication that something of this scale would happen. I was anticipating the suicide and have been mentally preparing myself because things like this are difficult to watch. For someone who didn’t expect it to happen, this would have been horrible. Even if the subject matter wasn’t upsetting for them, the blood alone would be disturbing to most viewers.
The way Thomas was treated afterwards was awful. Carson acting as if the whole thing was a mere inconvenience to him and Mary using the ordeal to take attention away from what she did, the rest of the characters going on as if nothing had happened (I know only a few of them were told but still). I realise in 1925 mental illness and suicide were largely ignored because people did not understand or felt uncomfortable about it, but this was just unrealistic. You would think the characters who were away of what was going on would be a bit more shaken than they were shown to be. And Thomas was expected to attend the wedding of his employer a few days later????
The whole thing was condensed into about 2 minutes and after Andy and Mrs Baxter found Thomas in the bathtub, there was 1 short scene where Thomas all but blamed himself for his shitty life (which was mostly the fault of the people around him and society at large). If you are going to write a serious issue such as suicide into a story, it must be done properly, not have a couple of scenes spent on it and then everything continues as normal.
I honestly don’t understand the point of this plot beyond Fellowes wanting to give Thomas what most of the viewers think he deserves (or to get said viewers to sympathise with Thomas even though it probably won’t work). If it was of any more significance, it would have had more screentime and much more work gone into the writing. That aside, I am relieved that Thomas is alive I and have a tiny bit of hope for some resolve in the Christmas Special. I am still extremely upset and offended that such a subject was portrayed so flippantly and with so much disregard to fans of Thomas and people affected by suicide or depression.
TL;DR This episode was upsetting. It was completely unfair to the viewers, and to Thomas Barrow.
There were some good moments in this series but all the bad plot lines just made the whole thing really bad. Firstly I feel like Carson wouldn’t have such a loose mouth. Yes he cares for the family but I get sick if I hear him speak one more sentence. Because it’s always the fucking same. Secondly, why did Mary get such a long unnecessary wedding scene when you could have explored other characters more. And then Tom, everybody loves Tom right? But there was no story for him, he literally came back for Mary’s plot line. I’m not even gonna talk about Thomas because everything about his plot line was the same thing just shot in different angles and it makes me very uncomfortable .
I hope fellowes retires.
I’m sorry for such negativity but I need to get this off my chest. It was terrible.
This is literally the most negative drama in the whole world. Where has all the love and warmth of downton abbey gone.
leelajoy716 said: Isn’t “A Christmas Star” a friend’s project? I wish his agent would get on the ball and get him some good, juicy, well-written post-Downton roles…
Ooh, I dunno! But he’s lamented enough about ~boys Thomas fancied getting these great roles (pre Daredevil, even), but he doesn’t seem headed that way, himself. I will miss his stupid beautiful face.
:(( I don’t want to think about never seeing him in anything good again…maybe his agent has held off on involving him in other, bigger projects because of Downton. After all, Charlie Cox was only in one episode, and Ed left DA early in s5, whereas Rob has been there for the duration. But by this point, they should have something lined up…
And Pamuk has that…Hunger…Maze..trilogy or something, popular with the kids!
But I dunno if Rob will be in another big role? I’d like to see it, but I have my doubts regardless
I think he will get another role in some UK show or another. Maybe not as big a part as we’d like and who knows when.
I WISH HE WAS ON HAPPY VALLEY DAMMIT.
I have serious doubts he’ll ever do anything of significance again. As much as I love him, I think DA is going to be the pinnacle of his career. He’s going to end up back on another soap is my prediction or as a game show host or something.
…Why? He has worked steadily for ages going from Corrie to Downton, even if he doesn’t do lots of different roles. He’s had a pretty juicy role on a hit show for the last several years- I’m not saying he’s going to win an Emmy someday but why wouldn’t he get a decent job on another decent show even if it’s not a hit?
The amount of times I've watched a British drama and recognized people from Downton. I think Rob will do fine :)
Just wanted to say that I love your art! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much :) such a lovely thing to hear!
Rose McGowan was fired by her agent for criticizing Hollywood sexism
On June 17, McGowan tweeted a casting note for Adam Sandler’s next film. It told actresses to wear a “form-fitting tank that shows off cleavage.” A week later she tweeted she’d been fired. Worse though, is that few have spoken up in her defense. Only The Princess Diaries’ Heather Matarazzo defended her publicly.
