Day 7
The Hotel Our good up good up sleep was interrupted by the maid, ready to tidy up the cottage at 9am. We were highly annoyed that we were being evicted so early in the morning. Because we disgusting, we took our time in getting ready only to be called by “management” that check out was at 9am and other guests were coming at 12 but could enjoy the property but vacate the building for it be cleaned. We were so rushed that we fished dressing in the yard, that the maid could come in. The thought of enjoying the property after that lost it’s luster, so we left.
The Drive We headed out for Gut River. Felz drove this leg from Black River to Little Ochi. Unfortunately ladies and gentlemen we did not end up at Gut River. Instead after eating went to a river that was 10mins walk from the restaurant.
Little Ochi River We shall call this river Little Ochi River. It was literally a 10-15 min walk from the restaurant. Is it scenic? Yes. Is it hot and sweaty? Yes. Will you get wet? Most definitely. But walking all the way to the delta (where the river meets the sea) is worth it. We enjoyed both the cool waters of the river and the warm water of the sea. We then laid out on the nice hot sand to dry. With rain threatening we left and made our way to Mandeville. It takes approximately 45mins on windy road with little to no turn offs.
The hotel We are staying at the Golf View Hotel. It is the only hotel thus far that requires I.D for registration from all guests. The set up of the room is weird. There is an outer grill. There are fridges on the outside of the room, that has food in them from whom, we are not sure. On entrance there is a narrow hallway, to the right is the bedroom with 1 double bed and an old t.v that we had trouble turning on, a fan as there is no a.c. and the closets are small. The bathroom is inside the bedroom, it is relatively spacious but badly designed with a small shower and small toilet space. Continuing straight along the hallway you are lead to the living room and kitchen which are both spacious but limited in amenities. The living room has a couch, a coffee table far from it and a small dining table. The kitchen only has a sink and cupboards that have nothing in them. We were provided at least with 2 glasses and an ice bucket as they do have an ice machine. It started raining as we checked in so we were unable to enjoy the pool. We called asking for assistance with the t.v and was told someone would be sent to assist us, we waited for almost three hrs and calling for someone to arrive. Instead we ate and chatted until it was time to turn in fit the night.
Day 6
The hotel Perfection! We woke up late, we meandered around the place, had good conversation and got ready for Y.S Falls. We were very excited as this was to be the highlight of our trip.
The Drive The drive was hilarious. First of all we got lost getting out of black river. After that it was smooth sailing for food in Middle Quarters, where we got shrimp fritters and shrimp soup. Note ladies and gentlemen this is very important, follow the sign dem. Do not be like us and follow Google maps, your as like ours will get lost. As we ended up behind God back, taking the long scenic route to Y.S Falls. Should you choose to do what we did for the scenery and drive do not follow Google maps add you will end up in a bush. Y.S Falls is easy to find once you follow the signs.
Y.S Falls It’s a $1000 on entry for locals and $17US for foreigners. Y.S. Falls is a great location but was a disappointment. First the river was muddy and high due to the rains the previous day. We therefore could not fully enjoy the falls. The greater disappointment however, was the inability to do the canopy due to the card machine being down. Instead we enjoyed the pool which was 4ft/1.3m, very kid friendly. It is stony buy it gives your feet an excellent massage. It is easy to get in and out. After that we were introduced to our guide Ian. Who took us on a tour of the falls and showed us how to rope jump into the river. All in all it was a good day.
The Drive We took the actual way down from the falls, which was 2 mins vs an hour. We decided to visit Laverne who had mother hened us for this entire trip. Up till now we are still unsure of where we went but it is near to Junction St. Elizabeth. It was surely of the beaten path in a one bush with no roads but it had a scenic ending. We didn’t awhile talking to Laverne, her daughter and local friend. It was a really nice view of the valley and Wigan wind farm. After leaving there we took a pleasant drive through Junction and took the south road to Black River.
The hotel We spent a very enjoyable evening by the beach. We floated around in the warm water and ensured we carried libations (smokes if you do). It was an amazing sunset that we got to the cottage just in time to see. We then turned in early for the night.
