"bye darry! i'm going to sally's!" you call, pretending your heart isn't racing. darry just nods in response, not looking up from the newspaper. maybe you weren't going to sally's for a 'girls night sleepover'. you step out the front door, nearly having a heart attack when you see dallas right there.
he grins at you, steadying you with his hands on your hips. "calm down, doll. did my ugly mug scare ya that bad?" he asks teasingly, pecking your lips. "c'mon, let's get outta here before your brother catches us and skins me" he grins, grabbing your hand and starting to walk with you.
you roll your eyes, looking up at him as he drags you. "you're not that ugly, dally" you say, pecking his cheek. "where are we heading anyways?" you question, looking up at him.
he shrugs, letting your hand go and stuffing his in his pockets when he's sure you're following. "i dunno, man," he says, with a shrug. "shouldn't we just head to the dingo?" he offers.
you sigh dramatically, leaning into him. "dallas winston, you might just be the least romantic person i know." you say. "you call me man and you offer the dingo? for our first date?" you chuckle, scolding him jokingly. "i oughta teach you how to treat a lady, huh?"
"oh i can treat a lady fine" dally grins, wrapping an arm around your waist and sliding his hand down, to which you laugh and smack it away. "cmon man, the dingo's fine" he says, with a shrug.
"yeah, fine if you want front-row tickets to some losers throwing punches. fine if you want to sit on gross chairs that are falling apart" you points out, crossing your arms. "let me choose where we go, okay?" you say.
dallas shrugs "yeah, yeah, whatever. you broads know stuff about dates, yeah?" he mutters, kinda disappointed you didn't want to go to the dingo. maybe he should've realised that the rundown diner wasn't the best place to take a girl, but to be fair the only 'dates' he had with sylvia was making out in the back of her car.
you think for a moment. "well... the food from the dingo is good enough, we could take some to go and head to the park?" you offer, tapping your finger against your chin.
dallas nods. "yeah i like the food from the dingo, it's shit" he says, with a grin. he's right — it's kinda awful. the burgers are too greasy, the fries are too salty and the milkshakes don't taste quite right. but it's perfect.
the two of you walk, mindlessly chatting about anything and everything. when you finally get to the dingo, you ask him a question. "no-one's gonna find out about this, right? like no one knows i'm here with you?" you question. darry likes dallas fine, he's a friend at the end of the day, but he wouldn't like dallas with you. hell, you could barely hang out without darry doing that 'disappointed dad' look.
dallas grimaces slightly, like he stubbed his toe or just got caught in with his hand in a cookie jar. "about that... i told johnny i had a date tonight, and i might've let it slip it was with you" he says. he barely let it slip, more like declared it. he was a couple beers in when he slapped johnny on the shoulder. it was more of a; 'got a date with the finest broad in tulsa, man. i'm gonna score with the one and only curtis sister' then just letting their secret 'slip'.
"dally!" you scold, frowning. johnny could tell ponyboy, and pony would tell soda, who would no doubt tell darry. if darry knows, you're screwed. probably grounded for life, and dallas will definitely get his ass handed to him.
"johnny won't say anything, that kid knows better" dallas says in that annoyingly soothing voice. "plus, this just adds... high stakes" he grins, patting your ass gently, drawing a slight glare from you.
you two got your food quickly, and headed off. the takeout bag was warm in your arms as you held it like a baby or something. the park wasn't far away, and you two sat off behind some bushes and trees. it's nice, surprisingly. you chow down on your greasy burger as dallas starts with his fries.
he lights up a cigarette between bites. you laugh, looking over at him. "how can you smoke while eating? that's gross, winston" you tell him, although you don't really mind when he smokes. it's bad for him, sure, but it smells kinda nice in a gross way. the fact he looks hot while doing it is just a plus.
dallas grins through a mouthful of food. "don't you go tryin' to change me, curtis" he mocks, reaching over to steal one of your fries, as he had already finished him. "i'm tough, babe" he says.
you just smile, rolling your eyes. "don't steal any more of my fries" you say playfully, resting your head on his shoulder. you feel his hand trail down from your shoulders to your waist, snaking up your shirt. "winston" you warn, pushing his hand out from under your blouse. "we're eating, it's not the time" you say, pecking his cheek.
he scoffs, acting all offended. well, he's not, he's not that awful. "you'll change your mind" he mutters, stealing some more of your fries and stuffing them in his mouth.
meanwhile, in the curtis household, you're about to be in a world of trouble. "where the hell is that girl?" darry mutters, only being calmed down by the cup of coffee in his hand and the fact that sodapop reminded him how much of a goody two shoes you are. he had called sally's mother, who confirmed that you were not in fact having a sleep over.
johnny walks in through the front door without a word. he never really needed a reason or an explanation when he came to the curtis household. he saw the way darry was all stressed and antsy, and knew he needed to ask. "what's wrong, darry?" he asks, sitting down on the couch next to sodapop.
"we dunno where our sister went" sodapop explains, offering a slight smile to johnny. "said she was going to a sleep over, but she ain't where she said she was. i guess we all gotta sneak out once in our lives, right?"
two-bit emerges from the kitchen, slice of chocolate cake on his plate. nobody ever really knew why he was anywhere, and he didn't quite need a reason either. "yeah, where is girl curtis?" he says, using the name he always called you. "she's been acting all odd recently, i ain't heard from dally either" he comments. in truth, he knows. he can tell from the glances between you. he also knows that dallas would tell johnny.
he just wants conformation, and he sure got it. "ain't they going out?" johnny questions, wrongfully thinking it was common knowledge. he realises immediately that it wasn't by the way two-bit grins, soda's eyebrows raise slightly and how darry's expression drops.
"they're what?"
authors note: dallas is such a dog i love himmm!! i don't think he's that accurate when i write him but this is all self indulgent so who cares. anyways i hope u liked this anon!
