between the speakers blaring songs he doesnāt recognize and the bodies moving in drunken bliss he doesnāt know, beau is decidedly out of place. which is nothing new, consideringĀ how common parties are in the fashion world and how often he goes to them, despite absolutely hating it.Ā still, it manages to effect him as though itās the very first time, leaving him to wander, distant, across the deck with an untouched glass of wine nested in his hand.
itās how he comes upon dalton, who seems about as uninvolved in everything going on around them as he is. and though his natural thought is to avoid, avoid, avoid, beau pauses beside him, stepping close enough to rest a hand on the railing as his teeth catch his bottom lip in a show of nerves.Ā āitāsā¦itās a pretty city.ā he says simply, looking past the waves to take in the view of nighttime barcelona. the buildings loom over the sea in a manner thatās almost hypnotic, lights reflecting off the water in pretty patterns; and beau finds himself calming at the sight, the music dulling to a hum in favor of waves hitting at the boatās sides. Ā
he takes a sip from the beer and blinks in surprise when he realizes heās not alone. his forearms rest on the railing and he leans against it, glancing up at beau.Ā āit is,ā he responds,Ā āi never thought iād be able to see it in person. or any of the cities weāre going to, really.ā or any cities at all, aside from the oneās heās grown up in. he watches the lights dancing across the water, wondering just how heās managed to land a job that gave him opportunities like this. he only wishes his family could be here, too.Ā
the whole thing, frankly, seems pretty surreal to him. growing up, heād never imagined going on any sort of trip-- he hadnāt even let himself think of things like that, he doesnāt think. it was just never on the table for him. and now, here he is, in barcelona-- he doesnāt even have to worry about money (although, that hasnāt stopped him from wondering about just how much all of this is probably costing the company).Ā
what dalton says makes enough sense to ollie that he doesnāt question it ā if he hadnāt ever been on a vacation before, he certainly wouldnāt know how to⦠well, relax. ā yeah? okay, i feel you. so what youāre saying here is that you need relaxation tips, ā he muses, smiling warmly at him; for once, he makes a point not to laugh. ā follow my lead. you got this, ā he urges, taking a few steps back until heās right next to a pair of lawn chairs. sitting down on the one on the left, he gestures towards the other and then lays back, eyes on the clouds and hands behind his head. ā cloud gazingās a good start. weāll work our way up to the touristy things, later. which is your favorite cloud? i like that one. ā cue him pointing to one. ā looks kinda like a frog. or a dragon. either or. ā
though slightly hesitant, dalton follows ollie over to the lawn chairs, taking a seat down beside him and taking a sip from the beer in his hand, which remains largely untouched at this point. his mind wanders briefly when ollie mentions touristy things-- he hasnāt even thought about that stuff just yet. heās fairly certain heāll manage to get himself lost in one of the cities at some point or another. cloud gazing would probably be easier. he follows his friendās gaze, glancing at the clouds above them. he takes a moment, then points at one, saying,Ā āthe frog-dragonās nice, but i like that one over there. it looks almost like a teddy bear.ā
oliver isnāt the type to impose when someone clearly wants to be left alone ā but heās also not one to not reach out to someone standing alone. when he approaches dalton, he does so steadily and with a warm smile, gaze flickering from him and to the waves. leaning his weight on the edge of the rail in front of him, he looks at his friend through his peripheral vision.Ā āyou alright, man?ā
dalton blinks and glances over at oliver. he isnāt actually sure how long heās been there.Ā āuh... yeah, iām okay,ā he replies, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly.Ā ājust in my own head, i guess. iāve never been on vacation before.ā he isnāt sure if that explanation makes much sense to anyone other than himself, but it certainly does to him. thereās never really been a point in time for him where heās actually been able to kick back and not worry about things, and he isnāt sure how to handle that.Ā
dalton was... fidgety. he wasnāt really entirely sure how to relax, per se. he hadnāt ever been on vacation before. heād never had the money for that sort of thing. he was definitely excited for this whole trip-- but he was noticeably awkward, in his own mind, as he stood at the side of the boat, watching the ocean while the party went on around him.
his mind was going a mile a minute, even out here. his finger tapped distractedly against the glass of the beer he was drinking. he didnāt even glance over as someone came and joined him in watching the waves.Ā
ā youāre right, my man. you needĀ to watch stranger thingsā asap !!! ā
ā the real problem: i donāt even have netflix, to be honest. ā
olliefellas:
āĀ you mean havenāt already? dude, get on that. iām about half way through, but if you want, we could set aside a little marathon time this weekend. you, me, some trail mix. itāll be wild.Ā ā
ā iām down. i keep seeing stuff about it everywhere. i feel like iām missing out on some big event, based on how into it everyone is. ā
āI need to watch Stranger Things. Iāve seen so many people talking about it.ā
ā you can get tropical fish which would be nice. who wouldnāt fish-sit ?? they are fish. what is there to really do ?? āĀ
ā well, thereās tank cleaning. that canāt be too fun. not that i would know. iāve never actually had a fish. a betta might be nice, though. ā
ā youāre probably right.ā lachlan shrugged.Ā ā you can have a fish. that might be best.āĀ
āhm. a fish might be nice. theyāre so easy to take care of. and pretty. i donāt think anyone would want to fish-sit for me when iām traveling, though.ā
āi never did go to universityā¦i guess iāll always be a little curious about it; yāknow, the experience, at least. high school was not the place for me to spread my wings and soar, if that makes any sense. granted, college would have been more about the education for me than the social scene. not my thing even in this world, i doubt it would be in any other. you just deal with them the way youād deal with anything, really. thereās no rulebook or sit-down talk on how youāre expected to properly handle stuff like that, you just go with what feels comfortable and true to you. with your talent, i wouldnāt be surprised if you DID get bigger. you deserve the recognitionĀ ā granted, i wouldnāt wish the fame monster on anyone. if it comes knocking, itās one of those things you have to take with a grain of salt. or several, depending on how strong it latches onto ya.ā
āyeah⦠i donāt think high schoolās anyone favorite, hah. some less so than others. but that thing about high school being the best years of oneās life is such bull. university was a lot of fun, thoughā both for the learning and the parties, if iām being honest. i spent time on both. i actually party less so now than i did back then. i still do occasionally, but itās different. like it has a different vibe, or atmosphere, or whatever you wanna call it, here than it did there. and thank you. iāve spent a lot of time trying to get to the level iām on now, and itās encouraging to hear that coming from someone whoās been in the business for so long. for now, though⦠iām pretty content with the smaller following iāve gained, to be honest. iāve never really minded being the back up.ā
āyeah iām going to go with the fact that a monkey might not be the bet idea,ā she chuckled.
āmaybe iāll just go to the zoo at some point instead. all the fun of monkeys, none of the responsibility.ā
āĀ that, my dude, is the stuff of nightmares! i love it!Ā ā ollie is probably a little too excited at the sound of this monstrous being, truthfully, but the wild and mysterious is something he canāt help but be intrigued by.Ā āi think iām actually feeling the two arms, ten legs, if iām being honest. maybe the feet are really tiny and light and you knowā¦. stealthy. what would you do if that walked up to you? ā no, challenged you to a duel? donāt ask me why it would do that, just humor me. iād probably just cry.Ā ā
āiād fight it,ā dalton says, āiād fight anything. i grew up fighting. this thing would just be a bit of a challenge. i could take it.ā he pictured the thing in his mind. āhow big would it be, though? if it was huge, it might be difficult to bring it down. and am i allowed to use, like, a knife, or a gun, or something, or am i going in fists only? there are variables here, man.ā
ā i feel like everyone needs some crazy in their lives every once in a while, you know? too much serious can do the same amount of damage. ā
āexactly. a little bit of spontaneity is always a good thing. ⦠of course, buying a monkey might be taking that a little too far.ā
ābetter be careful if you decide to adopt a monkey like bieber didĀ ā remember the scandal and outrage when the monkey got confiscated? this lifestyle isnāt the type that you get used to, i think. thereās nothing about it thatās even relatively sane; i would say normal, but the word normal is a bit of an abnormal term. although i think if the fame gets to you the only logical explanation is to go straight to adopting exotic animals. fameās WILD enough to drive people to do inane things.ā
āitās definitely something iām still adjusting to. parties, and drugs, and stuff-- im used to being around those things, at least. university was already filled with those. but interviews, fans, things like that... i have such little idea how to deal with those. iām glad iām at least a little under the radar still. i donāt have people chasing me down the street, and i only get recognized every once in a while-- i hope it stays that way, to be honest.ā
ā sounds like you ought to back out now before it gets to that point. if you donāt, just know i will not let you buy a monkey.ā
āi think itās a little too late to back out by now, unfortunately,ā he laughs, ābut good. a monkey is definitely not a responsibility i need right now.ā
