Rewrites are bloody hard. I’ve been procrastinating sitting my butt down in my chair and really start digging into the rewrite. A lot of it is because I’m doing it to be marked on at a later date as well as really trying to take the feedback I’ve got on it in the past. It’s hard trying to mould my characters differently while not trying to use purple prose (I loathe purple prose). I want it to sound organic and not forced, which is ultimately what I feel like it trying to happen. There’s such a finesse to a second draft that you don’t have in a first draft. The words and parameters are there. Is the refining that needs to happen that makes a second draft so challenging. But I’m working on it. And I’m back// I’ve been quiet as I settle into my new job as a Lighting Designer while studying and trying to stay afloat. But I’m back. This week is all about my manuscript proposal and edits. This is a subject for next year but it requires me to write a proposal and submit chapters to show I can write unsupervised. I’m using Devin (my dream walking assassin) and Acionna (my cursed selkie princess) and I have four chapters to redraft, plus two to rewrite. Now classes are done I’m going to be spending all my time and effort on this I want to turn it around in two weeks. I hope. I’m going to be digging in and blogging about it too. Such a wise man. Writing is such a beautiful thing but at the same time it’s fierce and strips you idea filter. My morning pages (which I’m finally onto again) is pushing me to acknowledge what is true for me. It’s stripping me of my comfy filter and letting me see what I’ve been running from. Five years// it’s been five years of learning what life is like without you. The first year was hard but nothing compares to the second where the realisation that you weren’t coming back really sunk in. Since that phone call that changed my life, I’ve cried ugly tears, had heart reaching realisations, found a new job, started a Master degree, watched other loved ones pass away, and find love.
