im so lost y'all. i love italy, i love writing in italian but i hate italian people so much

i want to tell stories but it's so hard when every thing i post in italian gets attention for all the wrong reasons ("why is everyone trans/gay?" "why does the mc speaks like that (meaning a normal italian teen without big words thrown in)"...)

after finishing my current wip i think i'll just focus on getting a better grasp on english and only use that. i'm already more comfortable writing in english but i feel like i'm losing part of my voice when completely cutting my native language off

I just finished writing a whole chapter focused on Simo and Victor’s relationship and I think this might be my favourite part so far. I love writing Simo to be a complete idiot who can’t pick up on flirting if it hit him in the face (original italian version after the break)

The scooter set off harshly and the force of the movement pushed me back. Victor grabbed my knee and stopped to check on me. «You should hold on.» Easy for them to say, I was the one who had to find a place to put my hands. Every idea seemed worse than the last. My hands on their shoulders was uncomfortable for me, and I wasn’t feeling too safe anyway. For a moment I considered holding Victor’s hips, or just wrap my arms around them, the thought alone turned me into a tomato. In the end, I settled for holding onto the baggage rack behind me, hoping Victor wouldn’t speed up out off the blue.

Il motorino partì con un colpo secco che un po’ mi spinse all’indietro. Victor mi afferró il ginocchio e si fermó subito per guardarmi. «Meglio se ti tieni.» Era facile per lu dirlo, ero io quello a dover trovare un posto dove mettere le mani e ogni posizione mi sembrava peggio della precedente. Le mani sulle spalle erano scomode per me, in piú non mi sentivo tanto sicuro. Per un secondo pensai di tenere Victor per i fianchi, o di avvinghiarmici proprio con le braccia, ma solo l’idea mi trasformó in un pomodoro. Finii col mettere le mani sul porta pacchi alle mie spalle e sperare Victor non facesse accelerazioni brusche.

Charlie: Bad news—Victor finds it very concerning that I know how to pick locks, and tried to unlock my Tragic Backstory(TM). I was too embarrassed to admit that the reason I learned it was because, at thirteen, I figured that was the kind of skill that would impress cute guys/girls/enbies. Charlie: Good news—a cute guy saw me do it. Charlie: Bad news—it was Simo, and since he's already seen me fall out of several trees, cry because I saw a fawn that was just too damn small, and knows I can ride a unicycle, he'll never think I’m cool no matter what I do. It’s too late. He knows.

Victor: How long do you reckon it’ll be until Charlie finally snaps and commits murder? Simo: I’ve been going through life assuming it’s already happened at some point and it’s just that no one was ever able to trace it back to her.
