Chapter 17 showed Link's insecurity during two periods of times. In the present, with him getting nervous about Zelda getting her memories back and possibly falling out of interest for Link and in the past, with the way he worded that Zelda was just sending a "lowly" soldier away after he became a problem. Was that something you intentionally wanted to convey in this chapter? Because it sold me the idea that Link always struggled with feeling insecure about his place next to Zelda.

In the flashback scene, when Link accuses Zelda of seeing him as a "lowly soldier," it's nothing more than Link lashing out (in response to Zelda refusing to talk). People say thoughtless or unfair things when they're angry or hurt, and Link is no exception, especially at age 16. He does not actually believe that Zelda looks down on him, but in that moment, in his frustration, he accuses her of treating him like that.

In the previous scene, when Link is concerned about Zelda losing interest in him, it has nothing to do with her status and everything to do with her amnesia. Link doesn't know what to expect as Zelda regains her memories, and that's bound to make him nervous at times. He remembers her old infatuation with Ashton, and he doesn't know how much it will affect her feelings or her perspective. Heck, I figure anyone would worry if they knew their significant other was dreaming/reminiscing about their ex. Link also regrets how he's handled Zelda's amnesia. Their relationship isn't weak, but it isn't remotely what it used to be either. Uncertainty creates anxiety, and anxiety is sometimes irrational. But it was nothing serious; he just needed a gentle scolding from Zelda to reassure him.

Link questioning whether he's good enough for Zelda is not a thing in Fortitude/Forgotten, especially at this point. That would create an unhealthy relationship, and I have no desire to write him that way.
