“Go right ahead. They already know. I’m giving them free passes to the brothel though so not like they’re going to do anything about it,” Marian joked. In reality the authorities were frequent visitors but not because of cameras and free passes. They just like the bar when they weren’t on duty. “No it wouldn’t be. It would be telling the complete truth. You are a tattoo artist, you do like drinking here, and you have given a guy a penis tattoo before. See? It’s the truth,” She pointed out. “Good. Let me know when that happens. I really don’t feel like driving an hour for a piercing.”

“Well you do have me there.” Damon stated, realizing that she was right. Sure, he’d never visited the bar before today but he did have to admit that the drinks were definitely rather impressive. “I’ll make sure of it. I reckon it’d be quite a viable business if we can get the customers for it. And pass all the health and safety requirements.” He told her finishing up his drink. “Though, speaking of work I’d better get going.”

“Oh I have plenty on you. I have plenty on everyone. I have cameras all over town watching everyone so I can have dirt on everyone,” Marian laughed, jokingly winking at him. “I might write about some tattoo artist that enjoys a drink once in a while at the brothel’s bar when he’s not giving people penis tattoos,” She joked. “Piercings? I think that’s a good idea. I know a lot of girls that have to go out of town just to get their ears pierced. I know I would love a couple more piercings.”

“Cameras all around town? Now is that something I should be telling the authorities about?” Damon questioned with a plain tone and he looked Marian dead straight in the eyes as he asked that question, before a small smirk cross his lips. He was joking anyway, and it wasn’t like he was going to run to the cops about it or anything. “Ahh-- so that would be fabricating the truth and twisting it just a little bit.” He chuckled lightly. “Well it’s good to see there is a bit of interest about it then. I’ll have to report back to the guys at work and see if we can make it happen.”

“Oh I think fake names for everyone is a given including one for myself. Any suggestion on what yours should be? I could just do what they did in that movie The Help and put in something so embarrassing and secretive that no one will ever admit that it’s this town,” She explained. “An hour? Damn. I love how if you want to do anything outside this town you better be prepared to drive for an hour. So are there a lot of people here getting tattoos then?”

"A name for me? What dirt could you possibly have on me aside from this previous conversation?” Damon scoffed pretending to be offended by her comment but his act was given away but the amused smirk on his face. “Enough that we have a steady business, yeah. I think the next stage is we expand into piercings as well though I’m not sure what the market for that is like around town.” He admitted.

“I’m sure this town is full of dirty secrets. I think it would be a bestseller among the wives of this town. I bet they would love to know what their husbands have been up to and if they have ever set foot in a place like this.” If she did ever write this book she was sure there would be a few divorces as a result of it. She’d be sure to avoid putting any of her own secrets in it. “True. Ethically it wouldn’t be the best idea to do. If you started doing that some people might start going out of town to get a tattoo. I would hate for you to lose business because of something like that. I guess you should just stick to doing regular tattoos though if you do another penis tattoo you have to tell me.”

“You might have to change a few names otherwise you might end up breaking some marriages and making more enemies.” Damon nodded, though he was sure Marian would’ve already thought of that herself. “Yeah, it does help that the next nearest parlor is at least an hours drive but as you said, I’d best stick to regular tatts that people request. Though, I don’t know how regular you can consider some of them.”

“Oh, we, you know, old and unable to molest mebecause they’re weaker than me.” She said, trying to keep a straight face as if she were serious but then her nose wrinkled and she burst into laughter. “Yea, no, maybe 10 years tops. No older. It would be kinda gross .” She grinned. “Good thing Bianca set me up on its you and my them then.” She winked and then moved her hands through her hair. “Mmmm, yea, definitely. I’m on the edge of getting nicely buzzed” she said as she leaned on her elbows toward him her fingers still through her hair.

“Sounds like grandpa old.” Damon mentioned with a laugh, letting his date pick her drink before ordering another for himself and then turned back to her to continue their conversation. “Weaker than you huh? Reckon you could beat me in a fight then? Because you look about as harmless as a kitten.” He joked leaning towards with a sly smirk on his face.

“You know what? I totally lied and don’t love how your apartment smells and I’m not sorry for being angry in December cause you totally deserve me to be angry. You’re just so….” she curled her fingers in front of her body as if to express a word she couldn’t quite think of. She stood up slowly, leaning on the counter for a second, feeling her leg. Then she strode off, leaving the bags she should have taken and just rolling the suitcase after her when she reached it by the door. “Have fun on your date, Warren. Or don’t. Whatever.” She said and when she realized how much the jealousy had slipped into her tone, with brightening cheeks, she whirled and went quickly for the stairs.

Damon scoffed. “I don’t know why the hell you bothered wasting your so called precious time even coming here if that’s the case.” He spat back at her, personally holding the door wide open for her in an over dramatic theatrical manner, his face stone cold and expressionless.After all, if she was so busy with her life why would she bother wasting it and coming here with empty apologies? “Not that I need your permission but I’m sure I will.” He answered, sarcastically before letting her leave and shutting the door behind her with an accidental bang that was much louder than he had expected, and then with an exasperated sigh began cleaning up the mess and making sure to chuck the rest of the food in the trash.

“Oh, I do tryyy!” She beamed and batted her lashes at him with a chuckle on her lips. With his next words her chuckle grew. “Three years is like three centuries nowadays with everything changing so rapidly.” She said jokingly as if it were obvious and he ought to catch up. “And that sounds cool. All the nice guys were those average guys like you. You know, jocks are asstwats, the nerdy ones thing too high of themselves. I remember how shocked this guy who was competing with me since middle school was when I beat him and gave the veledetoeian speech.” She wiggled her brows and bit her lip to hold another chuckle in.

“I’m sorry-- Bianca obviously forgot to tell me that you’re into old men if that’s the case.” He retorted jokingly with a laugh and he finished off the last of his drink. “I guess my brothers are all asstwats then. Or at least, gym rats.” Damon told her with a shrug of his shoulders. Though, it wasn’t that they were assholes or anything, at least to the best of Damon’s knowledge since he got along with them just fine, but rather a little on the loud side. “Sometimes a little shock to the system is a good eye opener.” He concluded, giving her a smile before noticing her near empty glass and waving the bartender over to order himself another drink. “Can I get you another drink?” Damon offered.

Dakota felt a sick kind of pleasure into seeing him finally sensing her frustration and transferring it to his own. And she had to admit, for seeing him this angry for the first time, he looked so good. But those thoughts should be banished. “That’s fun. I lost mine about 10 sentences ago.” She snorted and put down her utensils too. “Sounds fun too.” She replied with as much of sarcasm as him. “Anyway, I should probably head home. Jet lag.” She rolled her eyes and pushed herself off the chair so suddenly she flew backwards.

"Yeah-- I think you should go too.” He couldn’t help but let those words slip out of his mouth without even thinking and they came out sounding harsher than he meant it to. He was too intoxicated with his bubbling anger and frustration to even think straight. “In fact, you know what-- I’ll show you the door.”  He retaliated, getting up from his seat before she landed on the floor. “Careful. You’re going to break your leg again if you don’t watch what you’re doing.” He retorted his voice monotone and emotionless despite the fact that she’d fallen and knocked food all over the floor and table which he knew he’d end up having to clean up himself.

“Because it’s far better paid. And I like the idea of someday opening people up and finding what problems they have and fixing hem up. I like imagining one day I’ll receive a prize for some outstanding new discoveries in the sphere.” She joked, knowing the possibility of that happening was one to ten. “How about you? How was high school in the ancient times you went?” She teased and leaned to bump her shoulder to his, knowing her sister got worked up when she mentioned how old she was.

“Clearly you’re not only intelligent but also ambitious.” Damon complimented, the subtle hint of flirtatiousness in his comment. “Hey, watch it there! Those times were certainly not that ancient! I’m only three years older than you.” He defended himself with a chuckle. “High school was....you know, high school.” He shrugged with lack of a better way of explaining things. “I can’t say I was an academic and I wasn’t quite sporty enough to be classified as one of the jocks either. I was that quiet kid who zoned out and started doodling in the middle of classes.” He admitted with a laugh, feeling a little more chatty now that he had some alcohol in him and he was feeling a little more comfortable around his date for the night. “Which ultimately lead to my career path I suppose.”

Right… I’m sure you’re a virgin.” She had no idea where she was going with this but the idea that he had a date and didn’t seem to mind she could get one just made her strangely angry. “What do you think I do on those trips? Stay in my tents by myself and count sheep?” She gave him a smile that his venom. She had slept with one man throughout those work trips, but wasn’t going to clarify that. They could as well be a hundred in his head.

A small huff escaped Damon’s lips as he suddenly dropped his fork on the table without meaning to which caused a clattering noise against the wooden table top. “And I’m suddenly not hungry anymore.” He concluded, leaning back in his chair as he felt a sudden lost of appetite. Was she really trying to pick a fight now?  “No Dakota-- I expect you to sit there with the bugs and count the blades of grass.” He replied, his tone exasperated and dripping with sarcasm as she responded to her comment.

“I wasn’t going to say anything but you have a few grey hairs. I’m sure you can just dye them though and no one will know,” Marian joked. “I think I might write a book one day of all the things I’ve seen in this place. Of course I’ll use fake names for everyone though to keep their privacy.” And to avoid any lawsuits that might occur. “True so he’ll definitely come to you. Maybe you should do more penis tattoos. At least you’d get repeat customers that way.”

“I have to admit that is something that even I would be interested in reading. Find out all of these towns dirty secrets.” Damon chuckled, half joking. Sure, this wasn’t exactly his scene but when it came to small town Ecrin you’d have to be lying if you said that gossip of what was going on behind closed doors didn’t at least amuse you even just a little bit. “You know as much as that sounds like a great money maker I’m going to have to turn down that idea. I think a large part of customers coming to our parlor other than the fact that is the only one in town would be due to ethics. A dozen penis tattoos or though might not be the most ethical option.” He chuckled, though he was thoroughly amused with that suggestion.

Damon almost choked for a moment, his eyes wide at her sudden out burst. “Dakota-- what?? That’s clearly not what I meant.” He replied. “You have the right to do whatever you want. I’m not going to stop you from living your life the way you want to. And if that’s what you want to do, which I doubt, then so be it but we both know you’re smart enough than to do something ludicrous like that.” He rambled.

“It was. I can’t complain about not enjoying it.” She said with a shrug. She tried not to make a face about his date comment and just nodded. “Right. Not like I can do much than just have fun for a few days.” Her tone was bitter and Dakota was just being petty, putting such images in his head when she was currently feeling how much it sucked to think he might hook up with his “date”.
