Kubwa Tarkatan

    //Picture above is from Mortal Kombat 9 Challenge ladder. That mission is when you play as Baraka and have to fight this big ass Tark who wants to be general. IMO I think they look cool but that’s just me being bias lol.

  Kubwa(Great) Tarkatan are the giants of the horde. There is no definite way on how they are born since any combination of mates produce babies that are born the same. It’s not til they reach puberty do they get branded as a Kawaida(translate to usually or normal) or Kubwa Tarkata. (Note: most of the terms I am using are Swahili and its just a damn coincidence that the terms start with the letter K lol) By time the young tarkata reach 17 years of age they had fully grown, most normal male tarkata range from an average height of 5″11 to 6″5 feet tall. The Kubwa tarkata start from 6″7 feet tall and upward, the tallest being almost 8 feet tall or more. 

   And since half of those tarkata who were born only to perish in the Ritual of Blood ceremony(HC here). Those few could have grown up to be a Kubwa as well and potentially become a great fighter. Since Outworld lack the medical know how in medicine, so far behind that they are still in the stone age. They can’t really determine who will grow up to be Kubwa or Kawaida. Better Healthcare for Outworld2k17.

   Those who are branded as Kubwa are trained by other Kubwa soldiers, mostly focusing in strength training due to their unnatural height and build. The Kubwa are the first line of defense when it comes to battle. Their goal is to take out as many as they can so the other soldiers can push through and take care of the rest. When they are not in battle they are tasked with guarding. so if you see a group of Tarkata roaming around, look out for the tall one because they will more then likely be close by.

The sudden loudness and anger in his voice terrified her; so much so that the water in the pouch strapped to her hip lurched forward in an attempt to surround her hands. She forced herself to calm down, after all his actions were the result of her own and she didn’t want a fight on her hands.

“I really do sincerely apologize…despite the foreignness surrounding me it is easy for me to forget that I’m not in my own world. It definitely won’t happen again, I swear it.” She assured him, the pace of her words quickened and nervous.

   Baraka teeth clicked together quite loudly, lowering his head to see her better. He didn’t say a word at first, actually debating whether or not he should just walk away or talk some more. He had business to take care of and she was delaying the inevitable. He looked pass her at the buildings, seeing if he could spot the man among the crowd but there was no sight of him.

  “Look, I do not have time to entertain you with stories. You are welcome to follow me if you wish and I can tell you as much as I can along the way. I will not stop walking nor will I slow down. So you better keep up and not get lost.” it was the best he could do and besides this may work to his advantage.

Adriana nodded along as the man spoke to her, taking note of his advice. He was definitely a stern man but he also piqued her interests…and he was the only person to speak to her without threatening to skin her alive. She appreciated that more than words could describe. Despite his menacing aura Adriana got the feeling that he was a man to be trusted. A pang of shock and even panic flooded her system as the the foreign man suddenly turned and began to leave.

“W..wait!” The exclamation left her in a desperate cry. Without even thinking Adriana lunged forward and gripped the man’s hand in an attempt to stop him. Her mistake was quickly realized and just as quickly as she grabbed him, she released him.

“I..I’m sorry.” She mumbled, keeping her eyes on the ground. “That was inappropriate of me. It’s just that…well could you please tell me what happened here? I’m sure your story wouldn’t bore me at all…”

   If it’s one thing Baraka hated more than the immortal called Edenians, that was being touched without permission. He ignored her cry, even the sound of her sudden movements. As soon as she touched his hand his body tensed up like a feral dog ready to pounce. “DON”T YOU DARE...” Baraka growled furiously as he turned to face Adriana, his fist balled as his arm-blades quickly unsheathed at full length. 

  Thankfully he stopped himself from doing anything more as he noticed her posture, eyes down and mumbling. Almost resembled the way a tarkatan female would submit when she knew she stepped out of line, except she have her head down and arms folded. Baraka let out of huff of irritation, his body relaxing a bit but not enough to withdraw his arm-blades. 

  “Listen very clearly when I say this. Do not touch me again, especially if you don’t wish to have your guts spilled all over the dirt. Understood?”

Leroy Kwok demonstrating Hung Gar’s Tiger and Crane form made famous by legendary Chinese folk hero, Wong Fei Hung.

While this form does contain many applications - strikes, kicks, blocks and grabs - one of the most important aspects of it is that it builds on the Hung Gar foundation of strengthening limbs and promoting power. Each move is performed with what’s called “dynamic tension”, a concept that’s recently been adopted by Diamond Dallas Page’s DDP Yoga. The idea is to move as though you’re moving through cement. To tense your muscles and build strength as you perform the routine. the idea is that when you finally do come to fight, the tension is no longer there and allows for your strikes to be quicker and more powerful. Adapting this power to your applications is believed, in Hung Gar, to be the key to being a well-rounded fighter.

What would you say are your character’s strongest traits?

 Despite him being a jobber in the series, Baraka is a dangerous fighter with weapons that he is born with to incapacitate or kill his opponents. 

What would you say are your character’s weakest traits?

Tarkatans are known to be savages, and Baraka sometimes let his anger get the best of him. Plus his blind loyalty can get him killed.

What is your character like when they’re in love?

Baraka is all about loyalty and being the fiercest warrior he can be. Love is unusual and he probably wouldn’t know how to react to it. He wont use pet names or show affection such as pda. Tarkatans are known to be mated for life. 

What kind of upbringing did your character have, and how did this affect them now?

Like every Tarkatan, Baraka was raised wot be a warrior. He excelled in kombat training and other studies such as reading and writing. Probably why he had no problem becoming the leader in the first place. 

What is their relationship with their family like?

Baraka is close to his family as one can be. He does what he can to take care of his family even if he isn’t around as much.

Is your character religious? What religion do they practice, if so explain.:

Tarkatans don’t really have religion to begin with. They know gods exist, doesn’t mean they have to worship them. 

How does your character deal with mistakes?

Ignores them and moves on with his life no matter how big they are.

What kind of friendships does your character have?

What’s the saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.    

Does your character forgive and forget or do they hold a grudge? Why?

Baraka would let go of some things, but he will never forget it. Plus in the world of mortal kombat, its all about who can beat who.

How do they view the world they live in?

Half of the time Baraka doesn’t even acknowledge the chaos that is Shao Khan rule. All he want’s to do is fight and make a living, he got a horde to feed.   

Does your character think with their head or with their heart?

Baraka maybe the smartest Tarkatan in the horde, but in most situations he thinks with his head and that can get him in all sorts of problems. 

Is your character well-schooled? What sort of education did they have?

As well educated as one can get when you grow up around those who do nothing but eat and fight all the time.
