Now that nattys season has begun, here are a few reminders:
- These are all kids so be kind!
- It’s not a good look for us full grown adults to be raging about how kids we don’t even know performed
- don’t post anything negative on social media, most dancers are on TikTok and instagram (& their parent could be here on tumblr) and can see it
- Nationals is super scary, so mistakes happen, we’re all human
- these kids have a ton of pressure on them already, so be mindful of what you post (even if ur trying to be nice, saying something like “if you don’t win im quitting” could make someone feel pressured)
- if you think someone else should’ve won, that’s fine but you really don’t need to say it publicly
- so much more than just the dance offs are considered in nationals so just because you think some people should’ve placed higher in the dance offs, doesn’t mean there’s some sort of bias
- you can lift someone up without tearing someone else down
- everyone has worked the butts off the entire season for this so no matter who wins, they truly deserve it
- be ready for the crazy dance mom posts hehe

can someone please explain to me why clubs season ends and the new season starts before nationals - it makes absolutely no sense to me???
I think they train with their new teams for technique for the summer but have separate rehearsals for their dances for nationals

I just asked about ballroom age divisions but I was too curious so I went to ChatGPT to answer my own question.
For anyone else wondering, here is the ballroom age breakdown. But what I don’t get is why Brooklyn competed in Youth? Isn’t she 13? And she competed in the 16-18 year old category? And still won!!!! 🤯 Does Stella B compete Juvenile 2 or Junior 1?
Juvenile 1: 9 and under
Juvenile 2: 10-11
Junior 1: 12-13
Junior 2: 14-15
Youth: 16-18
Under 21: 16-20 (sometimes overlaps with youth)
Adult: 21-34
And then there are multiple senior divisions as they get even older.

I’ll help answer this since I’m also currently competing at ballroom nationals in Utah and I trained with those kids this week at Strictly’a pre-national camp.
In the US instead of Juvenile it’s called Pre-Teen 1 (U10), and Pre-Teen 2 (U12). Some comps also offer Teddy Bear (U8).
There are also different levels. Closed Syllabus goes Newcomer, Bronze, Silver, & Gold. Pre-Teen/Juvenile (U12) are only allowed to compete in syllabus in most countries. These levels go by the steps/figures you are required to dance and there is an invigilator making sure you only stick to the figures in your level.
Once you get past the syllabus (or if you started young, once you turn 12) you go to Open which goes Novice, Pre-Champ, and Champ. Brooklyn skipped syllabus though because she started competing at J1 and Parker needed a partner so she had to work extra hard!
So novice in this context is NOT beginner like non ballroom comps, it just means you’re newer in the circuit or new to open.
Parker is 14 so they have to dance J2. You can’t age down but you can age up. You are also allowed to dance up to 2 levels. So they entered Junior 2 Championship and Youth Pre-Championship. The Pre-Championship categories are just as/if not more competitive though because there are soooooo many couples across all ages. There were over 100 couples in Youth & Adult Pre-Champ, and in champ there are usually around 50.
Brooklyn & Parker compete today in J2 Champ. They are so talented and work so hard, they will do amazing!!! Stella won U12 American Smooth and dances PreTeen 2 latin today!
