I don't think people need consent for thoughts , I was meaning more like a thing that happens where someone actually does say something ab it , getting comments on random selfies or being told in person or just generally being involved when they don't want to or being threatened with involvement (example: a lot of my selfies have gotten comments along the lines of "whos Daddy's small little Asian girl 😈 I'm going to destroy u" from ppl that don't back off when told no , or men who tell their fem friends "lol ur feet are in this pic so I'm gonna jack off to them" and again don't apologize or back off when asked) . what you were describing with the phrase "project their kinks" isn't inherently related to kink, and it's also different than somebody quietly jerking off without bothering me about it. that's just straight-up sexual harassment.

softening it with therapy speak is a product of rape culture, the language isn't muddied by accident. shifting the blame from the person to their sexual urges is the most common way people defend sexual violence.

talking about it as though it's an issue specific to kink is missing the forest for the trees.

Shock humour only works because there's a high risk of failure. The idea is that you are saying something socially shocking - something that your audience knows is "wrong" to say. It winds your audience's emotions up tight, like a spring, so that they have to 'release' into a response.

You're hoping that response will be laughter, to break the tension. Often it is. The "I cannot believe you just said that" reaction. A famous internet example is "I also choose this guy's dead wife".

But, it very well might unwind the other way, into visceral rejection, and you have to be okay with that. It was only funny because of the risk of failure! You can't throw a fit about it if it does, in fact, fail

You have to rest in your own desire to create.

But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.

It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.

And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.

the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.

This type of traditional Japanese mending practice is used to reinforce the strength of fabric as well as decorate. Patches are very versatile when used for repairing clothes. You can sew it over a hole in your fabric or you can also so the patch in the inside to have it peek out.
