I wish I could see the guy on screen and hug him. I try to be nice to myself from six years ago and I write a letter to past and future me on the blank space of this notebook.

“Dear Daniel from 2015, six years from no you still regard this as the best work you’ve done. It is honest and pure.

Your short film gets picked to screen at three festivals, and you get to attend all three.

Your experiences vary but overall they’re positive. They help you meet strangers who change your mind.

You even get to win prizes for best documentary and best direction, which is nice.

Be proud of this.

Recognize it as a wonderful experience as well as how it’ll help you improve in the future.

“This turned six years old a couple of days ago. I still think is one of the best things I’ve ever done. This time watching it I find it very hard to recognise the guy on screen, he seems to have everything figured out. The rest of the notebook is filled with rants and ruminations that are very relevant to myself today. A hard reminder that self-improvement is never a linear process and hardly ever an easy one.”
