Hello WTTG/Scrutinized fandom... Please leave me alone, I do not like this fandom 😭
I posted quite a bit last year for this fandom, specifically Tanner. However, upon learning about Adam's IG stories where he pretty much confirms Tanner is a rapist, I've been out. Tonya is my genderbent version of Tanner and has become my own little thing. She is what I wanted Tanner to be, not what he is canonically.
I see people like my posts a lot, and thank you! But I am distancing myself from the fandom after some reflection on the people I want to surround myself with.
Tanner is a great villain, and I hope to see some more about him in WTTG3, but as it stands I no longer like him the way I did when making those posts.
Of course WTTG/Scrutinized is about terrible people doing terrible things, things that cannot be excused. From rape, trafficking, stalking, murder and more... it's just a series where the fandom appears to glorify these bad people AND their actions. Fandom space should be safe and open for those who wish to explore themes and avenues involving negative things in an artistic manner. However, that does not save you from being judged or blocked. And thats okay. To each their own I suppose. I just hope some of you know that your treatment of fictional scenarios *really* makes me think you would treat it the same irl.
I adore Luna and Clint, and I very frequently write about Luna. I love to explore her grief and anger, especially when her story and character hit so close to home. Besides them, I only really like Delfalco and Lucas. Both are still evil men who kill, and Lucas is said to have committed literal war crimes. No excusing that. But I am more comfortable exploring that avenue artistically, rather than rape with Tanner.
One of my very first posts for this fandom was involving rumors of Tanner being a rapist. And I stand by what I said. Tonya will continue to be my own little thing that is now pretty removed from Tanner. But as it stands, no one has been interested in Tonya. And I understand! You all came for Tanner and his character, so it loses some appeal when Tonya winds up being so different.
Anyways. Continue to do your thing and express your creativity. I just no longer wish to be associated with being a Tanner fan. Though thank you for the lovely messages and invites regarding my Tanner posts. I've learned, reflected and grown a bit over the course of a year, and even over a few months. Things are constantly moving and changing around you, and hopefully in you as you continue to live.
Tl;dr - Tanner fans please ignore me, I am no longer part of the club.
Best part about the internet is I'm allowed to just... block people. I don't have to be morally correct on why. I can just do it. And they can block me. Feels good.
My thoughts about the situation with Tanner. Fair warning, it’s long.
I used to find it confusing that most people didn’t mind as much about character’s who are murders compared to if they’re rapists, but I think I understand why now. Rape/sexual assault is more common than murder (At least in the U.S.) It’s far more likely for a person interacting with a piece of media to have experienced some form of sexual assault rather than the murderer of a loved one, which I guess makes more triggering/real to more people. I’m not saying that murder isn’t real or serious, I just think that feeling that way when it comes to fiction due to personal experience is valid.
And from what I’ve seen, most people aren’t even mad that they made Tanner being a rapist more blatant, they’re mad about the fact that there’s no prior warning about potential triggering content and the game’s fan service. It’s easy to blame the fans for the inclusion of the fan service, many people do look past Tanner’s gross behavior because they find him attractive, but ultimately nobody forced Adam and his team to put that shit in the game. I get that there’s a pressure to please your fanbase, but when it comes to topics like this you should be handling it with more care and consideration. Players are entitled to warnings when it comes to triggering content like this. If the play tester thing is true, then they definitely knew that and just decided not to anyways.
My least favorite part of this discourse is how quick some of you guys are to dismiss real victim’s opinions because ‘it’s a game about bad people, why are you mad about bad people being in the game?’. I understand wanting to defend something you like, but please take a moment to consider why people might be upset outside him just being a bad person instead of immediately assuming that the criticism is baseless.
Aside from all that, the game seems pretty good. I like the new characters, the improved graphics, the new setting/premise, being able to roam around the motel and actually seeing Simon’s body when you move. We finally have a cannon character that isn’t white, which is awesome! Seriously, despite many of the characters being different nationalities these games are whiter than white bread. (I know that there’s been non-white characters in games that weren’t released, but they weren’t released, so they aren’t cannon.) The mechanics look suuuuper complicated and difficult, but I guess that’s kind of par for the course with reflect studio games. It’s clear that they put a lot of effort into this one, and I appreciate it.
Though, at the end of the day, it’s hard to ignore the Tanner stuff and the harm it does to fans of the game who are victims of SA. The team needs to listen to victims, address their concerns and criticisms, and change the game accordingly.
I am not a victim, so If I got anything here wrong, please tell me and I’ll take this down.
I have a more thought out take regarding this Tanner shit.
At the end of the day, you are allowed to feel however you want. You can choose to interact or block content you see online, and that's ok. We all have our opinions and thoughts, however strongly we may disagree with one another.
My take is from someone who was raped and molested for years, starting when I was 4 years old and ending when I moved out at 18. This is how I see it.
So far, I have seen from individuals online that Adam has apparently disrespected people for voicing their discomfort with the Game Over sequence where Tanner pins Simon to the floor, licks him, says "You won't tell" then drugs him into the game over. It is very clear that Adam is implying Tanner rapes Simon after this game over.
I personally have not seen screenshots regarding Adam even mentioning this scene, but I do not doubt he has said some rude shit. I have never liked him, and he has always been a dick. Makes sense he'd say something and get defensive over his game.
HOWEVER
It feels to me like people are upset about the game over itself, and not necessarily Adam's response. Here's what pisses me off about those who are switching up and trying to boycott the game. Tanner does the same shit in Scrutinized. He pins Luna to the floor and drugs her in several game over scenes, and his lines include "I can't wait to taste you." Clearly implying Tanner rapes Luna. Full stop. This has been known and around FOREVER, and all of yall know about it.
It made sense when it wasn't clear if Adam meant it in a cannibalistic way or not, but he made it clear it was about sex. Adam also shared a series of Instagram stories where he responded to an individual who was worried over the Tanner rapist allegations. Adam says in his story that his games are about fucked up things and people, and that he won't sugar coat it. Tanner is indeed a "terrible person" as Adam put it. He outright just told us Tanner is a rapist, yes. But so many of you so badly wanted to say Adam doesn't know what he's talking about.
Well if he doesn't know what he's talking about and apparently has nothing to do with the writing, you forget he still makes the game. And he has just shown us in game that Tanner is a rapist. Plain and simple.
I've seen the argument "there is no warning" when regarding the game over, and that the scene is upsetting. I want to remind you all that this is the same game series that contains websites with rape, pedophilia, trafficking, gore and other fucked up shit that you can physically SEE. Tanner's game over screen is some fucking dialog and an insinuation.
What I'm saying is, get over yourselves. Seriously. None of you had an issue when Adam was being a huge dick to everyone over any criticism, or when his multi-player game failed. You didn't care about his morals and actions then. And you certainly didn't care about graphic content in the other games. You're mad because your hot boy Tanner is a rapist, and you didn't want him to be. Admit it.
I was also upset, and still kinda am. But it's a series about fucked up people doing fucked up things. It's to ve expected. You can like a character who does terrible shit without condoning their actions. Fandom spaces are for creative freedom. But it's insane that some of you want to act morally superior all of the sudden. He's a bad guy, end of the story. Move on. Grow up. Touch grass.
If you are so genuinely upset with the content, do not consume it. You are actively harming yourself by being so stressed and upset over this. This isn't some 2020 cancel culture, "we got you" moment. This is a game series that is open about how graphic and gross it is, that wound up being graphic and gross.
Media and art is allowed to portray terrible things without meaning the creator condones it. If anything, this has made a lot of you so uncomfortable and has made a point to show how terrible and damaging sexual assault and abuse is. It made a statement, one so strong that now people want to boycott it.
Adam has been marketing Tanner like crazy, and it does rub me the wrong way that he is leaning into the glorification and praise of Tanner. However, he knows Tanner is profitable, and hes trying to make money. This would be an issue if the series wasn't known to contain terrible things, but we all know it does. It sickens me that so many of you are suddenly switching up and acting like you suddenly care about the opinions of sexual abuse survivors. Our voices and opinions didn't matter to you before this, so why do they matter now? Because you want someone to blame and be mad at over Tanner? Insane. Fucking insane.
And this is targeted at several specific people, what I say next. You wanted to fight and argue so badly over this very topic months ago. You fought tooth and nail to tell us we were wrong, and that you were right. That we shouldn't have been upset because "Adam doesn't know what he's talking about. Tanner isn't a rapist." And now look at you. Suddenly virtue signaling the very thing you were so eager to fight over.
Say what you want, do what you want. Leave me alone, and realize the world is bigger than a fucking video game where a hot dude is a rapist. My rapist was attractive too, and no one could ever believe he would do such a thing to a little kid. No one wanted to believe it because he was so "sweet and kind and cute."
And stop censoring the words rape and sexual assault. You look corny as shit when you do it on Tumblr.

No member of the Black family has ever mentioned physical abuse or the use of physical harm as a form of punishment, not even Sirius. And Walburga had absolutely no reason to punish Regulus in any way; Sirius even says his brother was the perfect son his parents could have wished for. Why would he suffer any kind of violence, let alone physical violence? It’s absurd, and it’s a plot point that I find truly annoying and rather cheap. Sirius wasn’t some little lamb waiting for Mom to take him to the slaughterhouse; it’s clear the two of them fought like rabid dogs, and he fought back hard. People who say Walburga cast Cruciatus curses on her children have shit for brains.
Sure babe, James's infatuation with Lily was yearning and him not taking no for an answer, attempting to coerce her into a date, self appointing himself as her white knight because he felt entitled to her autonomy, going behind her back was him being a golden retriever boyfriend.
