I think we need to have the discussion about who rapists are. growing up everyone always told me to fear the men in the shadows and dark alleyways and the strangers, and while women get raped by these men too, many times its not the boogeyman in the shadows. its our fathers, brothers, boyfriends, cousins, friends, coworkers. its people you let in your home, people you make breakfast for, people you sleep in the bed with.

it's men who you care for, men you love, men you never imagine would hurt you. it's your friend who waits for you to get drunk at his place until you're not coherent, to touch you. it's your flatmate who feels you up when you sleep. it's your family members making you play games with them. it's your boyfriend who tells you he has needs, and just this one time please let him. it's your father making you shower in front of him, telling you he needs to help you clean yourself.

young girls need to know that sometimes the monster in the shadows is already in the house. that the monster is someone they bake a pie for. that the monster is someone they kiss goodnight.
