Tiny Update

Back when I was first making Cub, he was originally going to be a three-for-one package along side Ursa Major and Ursa Minor (aka Junior). However that ended up being overwhelming to handle, so in the end it was just Cub. I’ve mentioned them a couple of times in headcanons where they are relevant.

I have some headcanons specifically for them that I will occasionally post here and lable them accordingly.

Headcanon: A Mother’s Healing Spell

Before Ursa considered herself as a fighter, she sees herself as a mother. This stems from the fact that she had and raised her daughter Junior long before she received her key and began making contracts. Even before they both started making contract with celestial mages, Ursa was and is protective over Junior and worries about her well being.

Even outside of summonings, Junior was always getting small bumps and bruises just like any child that liked to play outside. Ursa became concerned how to treat these small, everyday injuries. Junior would cry and there was little more than waiting for the injury to heal on its own.

Ursa would do her best to console her daughter. Feeling upset that was not much more that she could do, Ursa tried calm Junior by, “Kissing the boo-boo better.” At first, that is all the action was, a way to calm down Junior, no actual healing. However, as time went on, Ursa’s motherly love had turned the words and gesture into an actual healing spell.

It was a low level spell that could only heal minor scrapes, bruises, and aches, but it made a world of a difference in their lives. Since the spell was low level, Ursa was able to teach the spell to other celestial spirits even if they are not support or healing oriented, though those that are may pick up on the spell faster. In fact, the creation of the spell caught her off guard as Ursa’s own main magic is combat and weapon oriented. The type of magic that the user has does not matter, the key to this spell is platonic, familial love.

Seeing the adorable little tyke handing out beautiful blooms made Aquarius beam and smile sweetly. Reaching down to accept the flower, raising it to her nose to sniff deeply, the smile on her lips widened and she sighed happily. “Thank you, little Cub. This is so sweet, and I appreciate you so much,” she answered while leaning down to plant a kiss on his adorable little ginger head.

A great wide smile formed on Cub’s face knowing that one of his flowers had brighten up someone’s day. Even more so that it was someone that he knew!

“You’re welcome big sis Aquarius!” He beamed back at her. Though while he was happy that she was happy, Cub did not understand why Aquarius had been out by herself. He knew better to blurt out that question, but it took a lot of willpower to do so. Perhaps he should phrase it differently. He also was just curious about everything that the grown up spirits did.

“Where are you going are you doing anything today?”

Headcanon: Origin & Formation

Roughly 320 years ago, Cub was a human boy on Earthland named Lev. His father saw that he was showing signs of magic at a very young age. Lev’s magic was still very impressional by the environment around him and he had yet to start studying in a specific area of magic. At that point he was only being taught basic exercises on how to control and keep his magic in check.

Lev was also the eldest of triplets that he went practically everywhere with. His brothers wondered if they too would get magic one day. He made a promise to them that whether or not they got magic he would always protect them because their big brother, technically.

One day, the town that Lev and his family lived in was having its annual harvest festival. During the festival, Lev and his brothers were each given a mask by their father to play with and be told apart by the townsfolk: a lion, a tiger, and a bear. With each of their respective masks based on their favorite animals, the three went out to play.

While Cub did not fully understand the holiday beyond it’s a day that grown-ups say that they love each other. Though he also understood that some people were too shy to actually say that for the first time. So he decided to help by giving some motivation by making them think they had competition.

“Miss ____ is really pretty, when I grow up, I’m going to ask her to marry me,” he declared within earshot of his intended target.

Now that the person heard him, they surely will confess their feelings to ____ now.

Cub stood around handing out single flowers from his basket to people he saw walking by themselves today. He heard how many grown-ups get sad when they’re alone today, or don’t receive things like flowers or chocolates. He doesn’t fully understand the holiday other than it’s the day grown-ups say all that they love each other. It’s all too mushy for him, but he doesn’t like seeing people sad.

“Here you go, have a nice day!”
