Welcome to the Supernatural || Daine, Nomad, and Pack
Dan sometimes ran during the day, especially on the rare days when everything wasn’t completely soaking wet. He liked to make the hike and head into the woods if he could. There was a path that led to a clearing. That was today’s objective since there were clouds, but no rain. He pulled on his running shoes and kissed his sisters goodbye saying he’d be back before dinner, that he was just going for a run – nothing that would take too long. He didn’t bother with the car to get to the woods, he was in shape. He just jogged down the road in his tank top and sweat pants, headphones in to block out pretty much everything aside from his heartbeat and the music. He made playlists for these moments. Not so much energetic playlists. More just whatever he’d been feeling lately. This one just happened to have Katy Perry on it, which was mostly because of Blaine. As he listened to the beats his pace sped up, ignoring everything. It was just him, his heartbeat as it started to pick up, and the road under his feet that turned to dirt as he found the path into the forest. The trees started to close it around him, and the air seemed cooler with every breath that he drew as they sped up. He kept them deep, watching the path for roots that rose from the dark soil. Here there were still sometimes drips off the tree because there was no sun to dry them off. Mostly he stayed dry. He ran further than most, and his chest rose steadily as he neared the familiar clearing that he used to rest for a while. It had to have been an hour by now, and all he’d been able to think about was Blaine, his smile and his eyes, and of course his own heartbeat. A steady reminder that no matter what he suspected, he was here and he was alive and that meant that nothing was different. If reality was different than he’d thought, it just meant that it had always been different. Nothing had changed, and that was how he stayed so calm. His run slowed to a walk as it came into view and he put his hands on his hips, closing his eyes for a moment as if it would help him to rest. It didn’t, but he also wasn’t tired. Running gave him energy, the burn was so familiar – lactic acid his trainers said – and it just meant that he was doing everything right. He’d learned to love it.
The vampire had been following Dan for a day now. Ever since he saw him with Blaine after the movie. He’d seen the way the two talked, and the way that he was treating the darker haired boy. Even a vampire knew what that was, and his mate had confirmed it. Rebecca was more intuitive than him, but they were definitely dating. Blaine cared about Dan, he’d figured. And he wanted Blaine to pay for taking away his dinner. So he followed Dan, and watching the boy go into the forest meant that he finally had his opportunity. And when he stopped in the clearing? That was his chance. He circled around, coming from the other way. Blood red eyes were like a predators as he watched the boy pant. How very human of him, he almost laughed, creeping closer slowly. “So this is Dan who’s caught the wolf’s attention.” His voice was cold and smooth. There was a degree of satisfaction in the way that his head snapped up in surprise, and the striking blue eyes widened before his jaw set as if he could stand a chance against him. Laughable.
“So what if I am?” Dan asked, but his voice shook. He cursed himself internally, trying to muster his bravery. He had never seen anything like this before. The red eyes looked like blood, his blonde hair and features were strangely perfect and yet his clothes were scruffy and he was dirty. Something about his features reminded him of the Schuesters, and how they all looked almost related. The strange perfectness. And had he called Blaine a wolf? Apparently that confirmed it. He set his jaw, but swallowed hard, his heartbeat picking up again as if he was running; muscles tensing like adrenaline was coursing through his veins. What was this thing that it set him so on edge? Was it just the stare, or was there something else?
“We’re going to have so much fun.” He purred and smiled, stalking closer. He didn’t have to draw this out, but it was so much fun to watch Dan pretend to be so brave and strong when he would be broken in just a few short minutes. Every heart beat was a beat closer to his last, and that boy didn’t even know it. It was a sick sort of pleasure, sadism really. He was going to make him wish he’d never been born.
