It is very depressing to thing of a child growing up under the conditions the boy in The Road has been through.  The boy does not know what color is.  He does not know what it is like to live a happy childhood with little worries at all.  All he knows is grey and the thought and willingness to survive.  He knows how to fight for his life.  His father is the only main human contact he has experienced.  Therefore, everything he knows he learned from his father alone.  It is unimaginable to think of this world and these conditions in today's society.  If there was a apocalyptic event during modern times, I do not think most people would survive.

When I first began the road I was not fond of it either.  My first opinion on the novel was it is very depressing.  I was hoping it would not be as depressing throughout the rest of the novel.  Also, I prefer book that are fast paced, and The Road was definitely the opposite of fast.  I was constantly waiting for something interesting to happen to change the story's pace.  Although it was depressing I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I saw a glimpse of hope for the story, the man, and the boy.

Post 14

This Literature class has taught me more than what's on the inside of the texts.  Not only do I have a greater understanding for Postmodern Literature, I have a few new favorite authors.  Laurie Anderson, a little odd, but it is what makes her stand out.  She was ahead of her time.  Also, I thought The Road was going to be completely awful.  However, I enjoyed it.  I did not like how it was depressing, but I liked the language and the syntax of the novel.  Now when choosing a novel to read, I know postmodern novels are ones I will find interesting.

This semester has definitely flown by! I never would have thought I would enjoy this class as much as I have.  Kayla, I too have developed a better appreciation for new genres of literature. I have learned so much from this class.  Literature can come in many forms and the pattern, I learned, can be irregular from modern novels.  The pace of the text of everything we read this semester is different from literature I have previously read.  Although it is different, I still like it.  I remember on the first day I was confused on the aspects on postmodernism, and now I have a greater understanding of this type of Literature.

Post 13

Movie or the book?  In some ways the movie differed from the book, but it stayed mostly the same.  I think in order to succeed as a movie, they had to add more to the humanity and sympathetic aspect.  I believe that is why there was more about the mother and wife in the movie as compared to the book.  There were a few little details I did not quite catch in the novel, but I did, however, from the movie.  Also, I pictured a worse image of Eli than the one that was portrayed in the movie.  I am simply glad to be finished with The Road.  I liked the book, just not the sad aspect of it.

I feel that in most of the cases, the books are better than the movies.  Producers cannot fit an entire novel into an hour and a half.  In novels, the reader has the opportunity to use his or her imagination to create the scenes and the characters, which is a part of reading.  On the other hand, movies do that for the reader.  The book did show more detail than the movie.  I was expecting the movie to entail more details and scenes like the book had.  Colton, I also pictured the boy around the same age as he appeared in the movie.

Post 12

I am one hundred percent happy that I have finished the book.  I believe it was a good story to represent the love between a boy and his father, but it is not something I would pick up to read myself for fun.  The aspect of the book that bothered me the most was how real the actions in the book felt to me.  I felt the pain and worry that the characters were experiencing.  I'm very relieved to be finished.  However, I am not excited about watching the movie in class because I do not want to feel the same emotions for the characters again.

I am so glad to be finished with the book.  It took me a little longer than most because I was imagining the horror way to vividly and the novel made me depressed.  The reality of it was what bothered me the most.  I have to admit it was a well-written story.  However, I am just not fond of the story line.  Also, if it was not for this class, I probably would not have be exposed to the postmodern genre.  It is very interesting and it has opened my eyes up to a whole new generation of literature.

After reading the book, I have realized that it actually wasn't that bad of a read.  I was a little skeptical because of the jumping of subjects.  I like when things are in order and make sense, and whenever things are out of order I do not understand them.  So, this book had me a little worried of what to expect.  "Time is a goon" plays such a big role in this book.  I did not make the realization of the importance of this quote until I read some of my other classmate's posts.  I kept seeing the words in the book, but I never related them until now.

I agree Hannah, I was not really sure how this book was going to turn out.  I am too a little confused.  By the end out the book, I believe, the purpose of each character started to shine through, and the puzzle pieces of the stories began to fall into place.  Throughout the entire book I was also expecting a big ending.  I was waiting for something impressive to happen.  Instead, the novel simply ended without any "bangs."  I think when each of us begins to read a novel, we have the mindset of one expectation of how the book will flow and end.  If the expectation is not met, sometimes it leads us to dislike the ending.

Post 9

This book is very odd, but I am beginning to like it.  I find it interesting how each chapter feels like your opening the book, and starting over from page one again.  This aspect adds spice to the novel, and makes it different compared to any book I have ever read.  I cannot wait for everything to fall in place so I can connect the puzzle pieces.  Well, I hope everything falls into place by the end of the novel.  Also, I am not excited about our next novel, The Road, but maybe I will surprise myself and end up liking it.

I as well have had a difficult time trying to get into the novel.  At least we have over a week to catch up on the novel! This class is full of short stories and novels I never thought I would read. I have heard of A Visit from The Goon Squad before, but never really knew anything about it.  I agree that it is not fun reading a book you do not want too.  However, as I read further and further into the book, I am beginning to like it.  The way it skips around is sort of confusing, but I like how the stories are about different people and things.

Out of the two novels we read in class so far, I personally liked The Things They Carried.  At first I was not excited to read the novel at all because I am not fond of war stories.  However, as I got further and further into the book I began to take a liking to the book.  The characters seemed so real, and the images of the scenes were very vivid in my mind.  It seemed as though the stories were true, which I loved the idea of!  Also, the storytelling aspect was amazing!  The rules of storytelling were also very intriguing.

Well I am done with the mid-term finally! I think I did well, or at least I hope so :) This only means now that I will have to read everything and ask more questions. I am ready for the break. I am also glad that we got to make some of the questions, this way i was able to study at least at little. I am definitely looking forward to the next book and I think I will start reading it over break. Good luck to everyone and be safe over spring break

I am so glad the mid-term is over with! Woohoo! I can't wait for the grade!  Also, I am so thankful we had the opportunity to come up with our own questions.  It allowed me to prepare better for the exam.  Plus, it helped me to understand the story more than I originally had in a group environment.  I agree, for the next excerpts we read out of the PAF I need to evaluate the story better, in order to have a deeper understanding of the meaning. I usually just read text for facts instead of reading it to comprehend the hidden messges which are highly prevalent in postmodern literature.

Post 7

I thought the postmodern literature excerpts we had to read this week were very interesting.  Generation X was my favorite out of the three because of its futuristic tone and its interesting characters.  However, I am still a bit puzzled on "White Noise" and "Housekeeping."  I have trouble grasping the story of each excerpt, and it is difficult with only an excerpt of the story.  But I think not knowing what happens before or after the excerpt adds to the postmodern aspect of figuring out the meaning, and assembling the puzzles pieces.  Housekeeping is a story I would definitely like to review on Monday in class.

So any class that requires me to read books is an automatic plus in my mind, but a class that requires you read good books, is even better! I have been enjoying reading out of the POMO book, I enjoyed reading Generation X. I loved how it had the fairy tale twists with beauty and the beast, Romeo...

I also have enjoyed reading out of the postmodern book.  I thought Generation X was completely weird, but I was also fond of it.  I loved how the author made it a futuristic novel or excerpt; it made the piece more appealing and interesting to read.  It is still hard for me to follow postmodern literature.  I have to read a piece a few times in order to truly understand and grasp what is occurring, which is what happened with this excerpt.  When I read Generation X, beauty and the beast and the whole fairy tale aspect also came to mind.
