The Pfizer Vaccine: Concerns
For any of those who may feel worried about the Pfizer vaccine (particularly, in the case of how quickly it has been produced), consider giving this a read.
Was the vaccine rushed? No, it was prioritized. The Covid vaccine, to receive approval, have undergone all of the same trials, rules, testing, and processes as every other vaccine. Over 45k participants were used in human trials. The reason that most vaccines take much more time in production is due to participant availability, resource availability, and sufficient funding- all of which has been understandably prioritized due to the severity of Covid and the rate of infection, which allows these vaccines to pass through these barriers faster with more timely results. Pfizer’s history and the likelihood of faking data? Pfizer has had a number of lawsuits against them throughout their existence as a company (known for Chapstick, Advil, and Prep), most of which involving undisclosed side effects in medications they have produced- some of which also involving unapproved human trials. The Covid vaccine, however, has undergone extensive external review and has been found valid and safe. Wall Street Journal - FDA review confirms safety and efficacy of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine
Medical Xpress - Pfizer vaccine results published in peer-reviewed journal The New York Times - Pfizer’s Vaccine Offers Strong Protection After First Dose BBC News - Safety data on Pfizer jab released by US What are the long-term side effects of the vaccine?
This is hard to say, but the nature of how the vaccine works leaves little concern for long term side effects. The worst it could do would for it to not work, and still leave you susceptible for Covid. But there is another cause for concern. Are there any dangerous materials in it? Vaccines train the immune system to recognize the disease-causing part of a virus. This means that they contain either weakened viruses or purified signature proteins of the virus. mRNA vaccines are different: rather than having the viral protein injected, a person receives genetic material (mRNA) that encodes he viral protein, much like instructions to make a “fake” shell of a virus. When these genetic instructions are injected into the upper arm, the muscle cells translate them to make the viral protein directly in the body. Your body creates the fake shell, which looks like the virus. This approach mimics what the SARS-CoV-2 does in nature, but the vaccine mRNA codes only for the critical fragment of the viral protein. This gives the immune system a preview of what the real virus looks like without causing disease. The immune system uses this preview to design powerful antibodies that can neutralize the real virus uf the individual is ever infected. Your body is essentially creating a dummy virus uniform with no actual virus inside of it. Your immune system learns how to defeat it without risk of actual infection and harm. If you ever come into contact with the real virus, your immune system can see the shell and know how to effectively attack it. While this synthetic mRNA is genetic material, it cannot be transmitted into the next generation, so your body cannot continue creating fake shells. After an mRNA injection, this molecule guides the protein production inside your muscle cells, which reaches peak levels for 24-48 hours and can last up to a few more days. Essentially, you create fake shells for a few days, and stop (It wont keep creating them forever, which is a concern for some people). Conclusion: the Pfizer vaccine is a trustworthy, worthwhile one. But there is no shame if you are still nervous and want to avoid getting it immediately. First responders, essential workers, and workers of long term care facilities will receive it at the tail-end of the year and in the beginning of 2021, but it is still greatly encouraged for everyone to take it whenever the option is available. If anyone else has more articles concerning the Pfizer vaccine and adjacents, as well as common concerns or misconceptions of coronavirus or vaccines as a whole, feel free to comment or reblog with your own discoveries or commentary.
FYI: The US Government is not advertising this, because of course not, but enrollment for 2021 Obamacare opened today, and you have to be enrolled by December 15 or you are out of luck. It's really easy to apply. healthcare.gov
