“ i dunno, ever heard of being old souled? ”
“ the last time i had a proper night out . . . fuck, season three premiere. does that even count? if my eleven year old was there, gawking at my co-stars, somehow i don’t think it does. i feel like i’m getting too old. ”

read tags, please!
“ oh, shut up, we’re the same age. and i’m totally younger than you in spirit. anyway, how’s life in boston treating you ? was it worth leaving me alone to fend for myself in the big apple ?? ”
“ i didn’t leave you alone, hey, i was . . . yeah, boston’s fuckin’ great. ”
“oh, yeah? where’s that?” at his comment, she grins, taking it for exactly what it is. “i guess you are, but you will never make a better cup of tea or coffee than me, and you know it, mister. i think they value that MUCH more highly. i know i do.”
“ right, right, and i suppose you’d be all too happy to see me out on the streets, yeah? ” he’s a little smug, but he still checks for amy’s psycho music before he leans in, planting the chastest of kisses on her lips. he pulls back again almost immediately, that familiar smug smile soon returning. “ and speaking of your BRILLIANT cups of coffee, what would you say if i asked you to stick one on? ”
“that’s all you can hope for really. that you taught them well and that they are growing up to be a good person. i hope you’re right about that.”
“ . . . don’t be afraid though, if you think anything’s wrong with him, to, y’know, ASK about it. this is i don’t mean to be condescending or anything, i’m just . . . thinking back on what i could’ve done differently with amy. ”
“y’wouldn’t do that to me.” she grinned. “i doubt alexandra and james would let you, anyway. i think they love me just as much as they love you. in fact, i think they’d kick you out first.”
“ wouldn’t i? i know of at least one place you could stay if you did lose your room though. ” it’s cheeky, yeah, but it’s meant to be. the smile he gives her is completely shit-eating and he KNOWS it. “ you think so? i dunno about that, their son’s a tony nominee nowadays, lola, my money’s on you. ”
— ❛ OR she married a plastic surgeon. Although your suggestion would make sense. ❜
“ nah, plastic surgeons don’t go for people with completely hopeless faces. ”
“I have no idea how you did it. I mean once you live in New York City everything else seems so boring. I keep meaning to check if there’s a cityscape itunes sound thing to play because the crickets were creeping me out last night. What grade is Amy in now anyway? You said she’s pretty excited about checking out the great town of Hamilton. I’m the unofficial president of coffee addiction anonymous. Shhhh, don’t tell! It was going pretty good. The last show was actually a couple weeks ago. Their refurbishing the theatre and of course the production is getting ready for the Fall tour, so that kind of opened up for me to come here, fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you want to look at it. How are things going with you though? With Masterpiece? You said your filming the new season in the fall?”
“ i think there is. when we moved to boston, amy couldn’t sleep without the city noise. she had something, maybe some sort of cd, or an mp3 file. i can’t remember, but i’ll ask her about it when i get home. yeah, she’s gonna be starting grade seven in september. she’s twelve already, can you believe it? ” dan could hardly believe it himself. it seemed like just yesterday that melanie was handing over this little wormy thing, all swaddled up in blankets, to his mother. he gave a small smile to everett. “ are you going on tour with it? tours sound even MORE exhausting than a regular broadway week, if that’s possible. ah, masterpiece. it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. the first two seasons? they were pretty clean. the kind of stuff a nine or ten year old would look over or could be explained away, but, it’s pretty difficult to explain a gay bondage scene to an eleven year old kid. i tried to avoid it, but she ended up hearing about it from one of her friends. needless to say, once september rolls around, i’m, uh, looking forward to getting my first script. ”
“ oh, daniel. are we getting old ?? ”
“ i mean, i dunno about ME, but you sure are. ”
“the whole six hours. when the boy is excited, there’s absolutely no way to get him to calm down or stop talking. wow. i am not looking forward to the days where javier thinks i’m no longer cool and he stops talking to me. i might die a little on the inside.”
“ yeah, those were the good years. she’s a good kid though, when she wants to talk to me, that is. don’t worry though, boys are always under their mom’s thumb, trust me. ”
— ❛ I actually thought already retired. i thought she was like 50 or something when she taught us. ❜
“ she probably sucks the life outta all her students. it’s the only explanation. ”
“definitely just lucky her, massive bad luck for the rest of us.” she joked.
“ oh, yeah? ” who’s around? amy? his parents? no. he can hear amy’s weird screamo music from the attic conversion two floors up. “ yeah, well, careful what you say, one word and you could be staying at the hotel. ” dan laughs quietly, giving her a well meaning smile.
— ❛ THOSE were the days right? They were probably just thrilled when I graduated. Can you imagine if I had failed my year and had to redo it. ❜
“ i’m pretty sure davis would’ve taken an early retirement. ”
“Nah, I’ll freely admit I have some good memories from high school and it wasn’t all that bad. I think its just hard coming back here an well….its Hamilton…not exactly the thriving metropolis. I couldn’t get coffee at four in the morning and you know what i’m like without my coffee! Haha, as far as I know, no one’s dead…..but as for jail…..I mean….its entirely possible!
“ yeah, no, moving away from new york? fuckin’ killed me, man. sometimes, i still miss it. if i’m gonna go back though, it’s gonna have to be before amy’s in high school. four in the morning, though? i’m lucky i never got that addicted how’s eight shows a week treatin’ you? i’m guessing it’s a lot of four in the morning coffees. ”
— ❛ I just ran into professor Davis She sure did remember me. Almost turned back to where she came from as soon as she saw me. ❜
“ i’m fairly certain the entire class of 2006 remembers you, ash. ”
