“What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.” - Matthew 10:27.
I miss replies.
I could assure people with replies.
It was starting to become a bit of a risk staying in this house.
Briefly, Basil wondered if the devil had come to town - and then he scoffed and shook his head, rubbing his prayer beads together. The work in this house was nothing supernatural or so wicked as to be the Betrayer - it was just twisted human nature.
Basil knew human nature in all its twists and turns.
He had felt like someone had been following him all day; one of the other guests, and he recognized the man with the strange name hanging around the corners of where Basil frequented. He also knew that was Larei’s manservant. So Mr Lamonte did not trust him - it was not surprising. She never had, and he doubted she ever would. He rubbed his prayer beads against, scowling to himself.
Edmond had told him the woman, Susan, had been pushed; that the pavement had been the thing to kill her. That the rock was an unknown - so probably a coincidence, really. Maybe a plant. He couldn’t be sure.
And he had no one to look at in particular: too many people out of their rooms, too many people it could have been. He wished things were a little cleaner.
This entire house was becoming one messy crime scene.
It was getting on his last, frayed nerve.
I sleep now for work.
...8v
Icanplayifanyonewants.
The day had been long, tiring, and stressful.
It was not often (these days) that Father Basil was woken by a scream in the early hours of the morning - mostly because he rarely slept so late, as was an old habit. Indeed, more often than not he was woken by the creaks of his parish back home; the groans of old wood and the sighing of wind through drafty rafters.
Mr Brookes, the butler, while efficient at his job, had been a tyrannical leader and harsh work master. He had had a hand so firm around those under his supervision that they had grumbled and glared and growled under the restraint. It was terrible that he had died so unexpectedly, of course - but none would mourn him, especially no one who had worked with him.
Probably not something to say in a eulogy, but the truth was the truth and he wondered at the fact that Mr Brookes had died the day after a dinner party that had had so much build-up, only to flop when the host failed to arrive; found it curious that he had died after forcing a young, new maid to deliver the note to the guests, leaving her panicked and on the brink of tears when she had escaped.
Almost as though it were someone’s vision of justice.
Nearing the evening, as dinner approached, Father Basil decided to skip sitting with everyone, but announced to the household as a whole that he would be in the chapel, should anyone wish to hold confession or to merely sit in the quiet of the chapel and ruminate.
Announcement made, he left as quietly as he had come; leaving the manor as a whole and the air of murderous strain.
And with that I sleep I work so much pray 4 me.
As was his oldest and truest habit, Basil made sure to know the house he would be staying in well enough to escape it.
A strange way to go about life, he was sure, especially for a holy man - but everyone had their roots, and even the sturdiest trees thrive off of dark and unknown soils. So Basil walked, introducing himself to the staff, learning the rooms and their occupants; where the terribly familiar doctor Edmond kept himself, and who was in the room next to him (A Ms Susan, as he was told, and and EMT from what he could tell - she wore the pin, she wasn’t subtle). He learned where the kitchen was, and the dining area; the parlour, common areas, and all exits.
He kept particular note of the exits, of course.
But it was not the occupants, nor the layout of the manor, that plagued his mind as he went about his day; it was the whispering servants, who seemed ill at ease. One had approached him, confessing in a quiet voice that they felt... discomfited by the guests invited to the manor. Who were these people? Why a doctor? Why two nurses? Those were the ones that stood out the most.
He also couldn’t help but wonder who the host was - not even the staff appeared to know. Not the one who told him, in quiet confidence, that she hadn’t a clue who her employer even was.
It was interesting.
It was peculiar.
It made his hands itch irritably, as if longing for something to grasp; a vintage to drink, perhaps. Not something he had had for quite some time.
The stranger made him leery, as well - Andrew? Alfred? Angus? What was his name? He hated not knowing who was sleeping just a floor below him. He made himself stand out, but also made himself slink into shadows, and it was a familiar dance and one he could admire when done well - but not when things felt so wrong.
Stepping inside the chapel, he went straight to the confessional again; running long, callused fingers over the nick in the wood that he had not noticed until he had cleaned the thing.
Many things about this place felt wrong.
if you’ve got ideas hit me up??? 8v I see u likin’ my plot post but like what’cha wanna do.
-tosses this priest into the air for potential plots.-
...
-tosses Eiel, too, why not, he’s a little lost boy who follows Larei around ‘cause probs butler.-
He arrived there early.
Coat pulled on tight around him, clerical collar digging into his throat like a hand, he kept his head bowed and his arms tight against him as he walked up the steps to the mansion. It was a grandiose place - a place he once may have called his own home. Old and classical but refurbished in a modern way - to keep it with the times, of course.
It was not raining, or any other such cliché. This was not a noir novel he had heard about; had flipped through on the off chance it might be an interesting read. It was a perfectly mild day; clear, a bit breezy (for it was November), but ordinary enough. He was glad for this.
Father Basil hated clichés.
Coming to the door, fingers of his left hand tight around the suitcase, he took a moment to rifle through a pocket and pull out the invitation. Cordially invited to such and such a place, for a dinner - would be delighted if you could come.
A safe enough letter, had it not referred to him by an old name; a name he had put aside in favour of his new one. He tucked the letter back into his pocket, mouth pressed into a firm, thin line, and then lifted his hand and knocked on the door.
He would see this through. Whatever the outcome.
Resurrection
The final time crawling out of Hell, hands bloodied and back shrieking in cacophonic agony, had been a baptism of rain and mud.
Dance with me. “Poldark” 1X02
Some Enchanted Evening.
On nights when the only halos were streetlamps, he could see her stirring tea in a diner.

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES thank u Rico:
Dante as Vincent Price, being dapper as fuq as per usual. He'll be staying at the Inn and probably helping Molly/looking out for anything untoward and protecting the Inn from it.
Idris is dressing up as a zombiepocalypse survivor, for the sole excuse of 'it's hilarious 'cause I'm undead' and also 'I can wear ripped up clothes'. She'll be with Sloane and probably traveling the clubbing scene.
Rae is dressing up as a WWII nurse. The clinic will be open, both for any accidents that may occur in the night, but there's also a little 'haunted walk' - at the end is a selection of various treats from candy to little gifts. This is mostly for kids, so it's not too scary; but all ages are welcome.
Gunther is dressing up and being active, dear gods above. He's dressing up as a clockwork figure, looking like a ball-jointed doll and with a key in his back. The shop's going to be open, and all the merchandise will be active for the night. He's built various objects for the day. There's a bowl of candy by the front door, as well, for people to grab if they should wish.
Sarah is dressing up as Bell from Beauty and the Beast - she's probably going to stick to the blue dress, at it is her personal favourite. She'll be taking part of the haunted house ('cause she's a ghost lol) and probably scooping Poppy up the entire night because baby sister.
Nab will be the de-tentaclefied version of Davey Jones to Lani's Tia Dalma. He'll be wherever she goes. Though he will stop into Nectar to see people he knows and he will be disappearing for a wee bit to do his Samhain things.
Caoimhe and Còmhan are going to be Artemis and Apollo. They don't really get what's going on, but Caoimhe thought it would be fun and Còmhan needs to get away from his parents and responsibility for a bit because all they have been talking about with him is his thousand-year-impending marriage. They might go to the bonfire, or catch up with Jade if she's not going to that.
Eiel will be the Clyde to Larei's Bonnie. They'll probably be walking about to parties and such things, and Eiel made sure to get candy for little ones, because he remembers when Halloween started to get popular and started involving candy and fun, and he approves, tbh.
Hoku'll be going as a knight, seeing as Xander made him the costume and forced him into it. He's going to be at the bonfire, as well, but that's not actually on Halloween, per se. It's also his birthday, so you know. He'll be doing birthday things.
Angelo's dressing up as a Renaissance Italian and probably just drinking and observing people. Maybe he'll roll into someone's bed. Maybe he'll roll someone into his, we don't even know.
Kinah will be the Grim Reaper, and will be stalking the streets. No one will ever know she's there. Whups.
Lithuen will be allowing her glamour to drop, absolutely terrifying her son and her changeling and anyone else who would recognize her, tbh.
Brooke is going to be a mermaid, to be ironic, and Seaside is having a party with free food and music. The downstairs bar is open, as well, with drinks priced accordingly.
Mackenzie will be grabbing his old '20s clothes and dressing up like that. He'll be with his family and/or Ray for the night. It's not his favourite day of the year, but he'll have fun all the same. There will be candy and such things outside his apartment door.
Xander will also be a knight, and is of course going to be at the bonfire. He's going to challenge Hoku to jousting, just wait.
Mendel will be dressing up as a sort of 'fantastical' Bottom character, with the donkey ears and tail, but then some sort of fairy/theatre player shirt and vest combo and a pair of trousers with raggedy bottoms. He'll probably be around Nectar for a bit to see Fanden, but also be at Schmen's to take part of that party.
Sacha is going to be a hobo. So basically, himself. He was probably given a little briefcase to complete the look, and he'll be wandering around town and enjoying the noises and sights and festivities in the only way Sacha knows how.
No ideas for Jonah yet.
Morpheus is dropping his 'skin' for the day, appearing like Van Gough's 'Starry Night' picture, mostly. It's quite the sight to see.
Lady will be the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio. I'm kinda hoping Andrew will be Pinocchio. /brick'd. She'll be at Tim's shop or, if he doesn't need her there, she'll go somewhere with Andrew.
Karel is going to be at Nectar playing the music, as per usual, and he will have skeletal make-up. Not like the Day of the Dead make-up at all. Just actual skeleton Karel.
Julian is dressing up as Casanova and no one can stop him.
Dee will be Janis Joplin, mostly because she wants to stare at people like 'rly' over the huge-framed glasses a younger Joplin once wore.
Irial will be in battle regalia. It'll look freakin' sweet.
And finally, Amir will be a '40s gangster. He stole the clothes from an American museum. The museum is less than pleased, and super confused.
