I feel called to talk about this real quick.

A lot of folx, especially younger ones may be thinking JK is/was so ✨brilliant✨, how did she come up with all this for the HP world. And it hurts all the more because we believe these concepts came FROM her. But I want to bring into people’s awareness that every single concept she’s used can be traced back to Lore from other cultures that pre-dates JK.

She aint come UP with these grandiose concepts –  look to Tarot, look into mythology, look at Buddhism. I was one of those people a few years ago who didn’t know these things. That the source material she alludes to, and pulls from existed outside of her own mind. I really, really feel this will illuminate a few people so they feel better, and have a better understanding of how Harry Potter was able to come together. It just puts things into perspective a little better and I hope this helps and could be a springboard for others.

When Harry becomes the DADA professor, kids constantly ask him for an autograph, but he refuses, saying the only thing he’ll autograph is a detention slip. Eventually, though, he starts carrying around a stack of autographed pictures of Ginny, which he gives out when people ask for an autograph. It gets really popular, so he starts mixing it up with autographs from other people, mostly Ron and Hermione. But the students love it, so he adds more. Soon he’s giving out autographs from like fifty different people, including all the teachers at Hogwarts, and a bunch of other random people like Luna, Lee Jordan, Oliver Wood, etc. He even has some fairly rare ones from Krum and Fleur. It becomes a game in Hogwarts to collect all the autographs, like chocolate frog cards. Some of them are more limited edition than others, like signatures from all the ghosts (though Harry won’t reveal how he managed to get those). George starts to offer a discount at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes (and a prize autograph from Peeves, who will only sign Bertie Bott’s scratch-and-sniff cards) to anyone who can prove they’ve collected the whole set. Harry provides him with up-to-date lists of autographs to check against. Every Hogsmeade weekend there’s a line of Hogwarts students in WWW’s Hogsmeade branch trying to get the discount.

At some point a seventh year comes up to Harry and asks for his autograph, but not as the Savior of the Wizarding World, but because they now have the autograph of every other Hogwarts teacher and want Professor Potter’s to go with them. Harry–trying not to tear up–agrees, but only in exchange for the student’s signature. He begins offering this deal to all departing seventh years, his autograph in exchange for theirs. He tells them it’s in case they ever get famous, so he can add it as a limited edition autograph, but really he keeps them all in a big binder just for himself, to remember all his students. (A couple times, though, when a students does become famous, he will contact them and ask if they’d like to be added to the game. So far no one has said no.)

When Teddy starts at Hogwarts he begins a black market autograph trade because he has access to a lot of the people Harry gets autographs from. Harry’s other three children proudly continue the trade when they get to Hogwarts. They’re all secretly aided by Ginny.

Teddy Lupin

Teddy is part of the Weasley family no one ever questioned that

He used to match his hair colour to whoever he was around at the moment

Being the oldest he often had the pleasure to be responsible for the other kids

He has babysat the Potter kids for so many date nights

But not just them he has babysat all the Weasly children at one point ot another

He had to learn very early on to keep somewhat of an order in the complete chaos that is his cousins and has become very good at dealing with children

All qualities that helped him become prefect and later headboy

But Teddy always stayed "the cool cousin"

The Weasley kids freaking adore him and quite a few look up to him, especially James

After Hogwarts he propably became a kindergarden teacher or something similar

And Teddys genderfluid. He doesen't really care about pronouns, everything works

When he was younger he used to match his haircolour to whoever he was with

Later he saw pictures of Tonks with pink hair and kept it pink for a while

He always liked brightly coloured hair and often matched it to his current outfit

The Potter siblings

James is a very overprotective older brother and would do EVERYTHING for his siblings

No one (except him of course) is allowed to lay hands on Lily or Albus

Do they need him to fight their battles? No, they're perfectly capable of doing that on their own but James doesen't care

James and Lily are both extroverted social butterflys. They're popular and friends with everyone

Especially Lily she can regularly be found hanging out in all the common rooms

Albus is super introverted and only has a select few people he cares about

Lily gets it, she respects Als boundaries and the two of them are very close to eachother

James struggles, him and Al clash a lot. They have opposite personalitys and fight constantly, it gets better once they get older

They would still die for eachother though

Lily is weirdly manipulative, she's very good at getting people to do whatever she wants and she has James wrapped around her finger. Albus on the other hand is almost immune to her big eyes

(Teddy is completley immune to her, he spent to much time babysitting the Potter kids to fall for any of their tricks)

Lily Luna Potter

The baby of the family and always gets her way

Honestly, know is able to say no to her and she is very aware of that

Lily constantly hangs out in the common rooms of the other houses

The Hufflepuffs let her in without even questioning it

She is smart enough to solve the riddle at the Ravenclaw door

And somehow she always manages to convince a Slytherin to let her in (it drives Albus crazy)

In the beginning the other students tried to throw her out, but she always came back

In the end they gave up, Lily is simply to likeable to be thrown out

Scorpius and Rose being friends (also a tad of Scorbus, because I just can't help myself)

Rose finally gives in and agrees to go on a date with Scorpius

Mainly to prove him that they just won't work together

She's very aware of Scorpius crush on Albus, even if he dosen't know yet

Rose is also very aro/ace but still closeted

To her surprise the date is actually fun!

Scorpius is lovely and smart, plus he's one of the few people that dosen't mind discussing ancient runes and arithmacy with her

They start to hang out and study together

Albus dosen't like it

Only becuse he worries about Scorpius' feelings of course, he's deffinitley not jealous

After a few weeks of hanging out Scorpius asks Rose to be his girlfriend

She comes out to him

She really didn't plan to do so, but somehow she trusts Scorpius a lot, even if they've only been friends for a few weeks

He understands and takes it very well

His "crush" is suddenly forgotten and they get back to talking about ancient runes (like the nerds they are)

Rose also trys to hint that Scorpius talks a lot about Albus. Like a lot a lot!

She comes out Albus, mainly to show him that she's no threat whatsoever and that he still has a chance

It takes a while but in the end Rose finally helps them to realise how crazy Albus and Scorpius are for eachother

The Next Generation on 1st September

Teddy always sleeps over at the Potters that way they could take him with their children to King’s Cross

The Potters are always late

James is running through the house looking for his Quidditch Gear

Ginny helps because for gods sakes they used it yesterday it can’t just have disappeared

Harry and Albus are trying to stuff all the books in his suitcase, Albus hasn’t packed them yet because he obviously still needed them until this exact moment

Lily sits, with her suitcase ready to go, in their living room and is having the best time watching everyone freak out

She doesn’t worry, they always make it on time

She also knows where James Quidditch gear is, but telling him wouldn’t be any fun would it?

The Weasley Grangers are doing better

Rose has packed her suitcase at least three times during the last week

Now she’s going through her packing list (again) to check if she got everything

Rose has made a packing list for Hugo as well, she knows exactly that he wouldn’t even think of doing such a thing and has already urged him to pack a week ago (and three days ago, and yesterday)

Rose is terrifying, especially when’s she’s stressed out about going back to School, Hugo just goes along with it and tries not to get in her way

They leave 5 minutes to late but that’s because Ron can't find the car keys

Hermoine already knew that something like that would happen and has told everyone that they would leave ten minutes before she actually wanted to leave

VictoireWeasley has already packed everything she needs to survive

But somehow, she always forgets that going back to School means that she also needs to take her School supplies

Now she’s trying to squish those into her suitcase that is full of clothes and beauty products (and it’s absolutely not possible to leave something behind!)

Dominique is an absolute perfectionist, she was simply born ready

Louis is just a mess

He kind off started to pack but you know… packing is hard

Dominique has taken over for him and packs his suitcase in record time

Somehow they manage to leave on time

Percys Family gets up early in the morning, eats a big family breakfast, takes their packed suitcases and just leaves

They are way too early at King’s Cross

Lily Luna Potter, age 5, giggles as she falls off her little broomstick time after time. her knees are bruised but she does not mind.

Lily Luna Potter, age 7, smiles in awe as she watches the ballet with her stepmom luna. this is what she wants to become when she is older. harry does not smile.

Lily Luna Potter, age 9, waves her brothers goodbye at king’s cross. she can’t wait to go herself. painful gazes meet her eyes. she has not shown signs of magic.

Lily Luna Potter, age 11, boards the hogwarts express. she cannot hear what the sorting hat tells her, only the applause at the gryffindor table. she smiles bravely. 

Lily Luna Potter, age 13, is failing all her classes. she does not care anymore. her wand does not respond to her. she dances the tears away in the room of requirement.

Lily Luna Potter, age 15, screams at her father. how could he do this to her, she asks over and over again. she does not understand, he says. but she does. she does not come home for christmas.

Lily Luna Potter, age 17, lives on her own and attends the royal ballet school. she will graduate in a year. her father is not invited.

Lily Luna Potter, age 19, is a company member. her wand lays forgotten on the bottom of the river thames. she smiles before her entree as the black swan.

Lily Luna Potter, age 21, freezes as her father knocks on her door. he apologizes a thousand times, but she closes the door. tears roll down her cheek as she talks to him through a closed door.

Lily Luna Potter, age 23, comes home for christmas.

Lily Luna: *squeezes herself between James and Fred on the Gryffindor table*

James Sirius: What do you want?

Lily: Just wanted to inform you that you lost our bet

James: What? No way!

James: Did they tell you?

Lily: Not yet, but just look at them!

James: *looks at the Slytherin table* What?

Lily: Al and Scorp are beaming with happiness

Lily: Sharing shy glances at the other

Lily: Sitting further apart than usual

Lily: Scared to casually touch the other in public

Lily: Anyway. Lysander has already started to design the shirt you’re gonna wear

James: That’s not a proof

Lily: Do we really have to ask them?

Lily: I wanted to wait until their ready to tell us

James: Yes there’s no way I just believe you!

Lily: *sighs* Fine, but let’s give them a few days to get used to it

James: Fine by me

Lily: Great, I gotta go to class

Lily: And Fredy darling?

Fred: *suspicous* Yes?

Lily: *in her sweetest, most innocent voice* I’ll kill you if you tell anyone what you’ve heard

Lily: *kisses James and Fred on the cheek and disappears*

Fred: How is it that this adorable pink fluffball always manages to scare me?

James: I’ve been asking myself that for years…

Reasons to love Frances Janvier

Her name, people might struggle to pronounce it properly but it is absoltuley beautiful

She Shows us that there is more to the 'boring a-students' than people think

She is a fangirl

She is an artist

And she's living the live every fangirl wishes to have

She gets to work and be friends with the creator of her favorite Podcast!

Her mother is the coolest (I'm aware that this is not a reason to love Frances, but I just HAVE to mention her).

Honestly that women is super suportive of everything her daughter does and she casually wears unicorn onsies

Okay now that we've gushed about Frances Mom, let's get back on track

She is a loyal and caring friend

She is bisexual

Her clothes are EVERYTHING, I wish I'd have half of her wardrobe

Fred and Roxanne Weasley

Both siblings are in Gryffindor

Fred and his best friend James are known to be the pranksters

Roxanne seems to be fairly innocent

She has decent grades, exceds in Charms and is Gryffindors beater

She's also the cause of half the pranks that happen in Hogwarts

She dosen't get caught

Never

Fred and James usually get the blame for what she does

Or the Scamander twins

James Sirius: *Sits down next to Lily*

James: Have you heard that Rosie and Scorpius are going on a date?

Lily Luna: I hear everything

James: I hope you're prepared to lose our bet

Lily: *smiles* I'm not going to

James: Scorpius and Rose are going on a date. There's no way Scorpius and Al are gonna get together

James: *looks at the Slytherin table*

James: I guess so?

Lily: He obviously isn't happy about them going on a date

Lily: And we both now that Rose doesn't like Scorp that way, she's just going out of pity.

James: Al is straight and Christmas is already in two months, I'm so going to win this

The sibling talk

Dominique: Teddy, we need to talk!

Teddy: Uhm... sure?

Dominique: Vic told us that you two are together now

Teddy: *smiles dreamily* yes...

Dominique: First I wasn't sure if you need the "You hurt her and I hurt you" talk, since your family and obviously in love with my sister

Teddy: I am

Dominique: But it still has to be done

Teddy: *sighs* you're way too dramatic but sure

Dominique: As if you aren't dramatic. So, Vic is head over heels for you, honestly, your all she ever talks about!

Teddy: *Beams* Really?

Dominique: Could you please not interrupt me? I've got a whole speech planned out

Teddy: *Rolls eyes* Sorry

Dominique: Where was I again?

Teddy: I'm all she ever talks about?

Dominique: Right, I hope you realise what an amazing person she is

Teddy: I do!

Dominique: *death glare* I know better than anyone that Vic can be very shallow and annoying from time to time, like REALLY annoying, but she's also the most amazing person you'll ever meet. Vic is a strong independent woman, she's smart and kind. If you ever disrespect or hurt her I will end you! And trust me I'm more than capable of that.

Teddy: Done?

Dominique: *Smiles* Yes

Teddy: You enjoyed that didn't you?

Dominique: Heck yeah! Was I intimidating?

Teddy: *pats her head* of course you were sweety

So we all know and love AO3 by right? But have you guys realised how much is behind AO3? Because I haven’t until a few months ago and I’m very upset that haven’t realised it earlier.

AO3 is made by the Oragnization of Transformative works (OTW), a nonprofit organization run by fans for fans. Their mission is to provide access and preserve the history of fanworks and fanculture. So, why do I love that so much? First of all, I’m a librarian, all we do is provide access and preserve things and to see that in a Fandom context ist just amazing! Second, fan culture is such a huge thing. We need to try and keep track of it, it would be an imense loss if everything that’s been created just disappeared.

So what to they even do? OTW has a few different projects on which they’re working on:

A03, that’s the one we all know. They let us upload Fanfiction and look after it. But the endgoal would be that they not only preserve Fanfiction but also other Fanworks as Videos or art.

Legal advocacy which is exactly what it sounds like. They protect fanworks from from commercial exploitation and legal challenge.

Fanlore, a Fandom wiki that is about Fan culture and it’s history. I repeat, a Wiki about Fan culture and history. This means it isn’t about all the canon stuff (don’t get me wrong I love the canon stuff as well) but about the fans, what is shipped, what terms are used, common tropes and all that stuff.

There’s more, they have a peer reviewed open access Journal called Transformative works and cultures and Open doors which activly preserves at risk fannish-conent they even work with the Special collection department at the University of Iowa!

I don’t really know how to end this post. I just wanted to share how amazing OTW is and show people that it exists (and maybe I just wanted to geek out about it…)
