Despite the posts I've seen recently, I dont necessarily believe that pete abandoned his morals in the end of tlw.
Pete told Ray to chose love, because pete loved ray, and wanted him to live, and if he killed the major he'd never survive. But when Ray died, Pete still chose love, because Ray was already gone, so there wasn't anything more that the walk could take from him. The simplest act moving forward was to chose love -to chose Ray and honor his mission.
Pete's morals were based on loyalty and love, and that's why he did everything he did for ray

Colt who rolled his eyes everytime and hated it because he was colton, not coltland.
Colt who was still called it in college occasionally when people found out he was a twin (it's his go to 'fun fact' during icebreakers).

Colt who now is an adult -court who has been 'dead' longer than colt knew him, and ryland, who left the planet years ago.

Do you all think that Court would actually be relieved that Ryland was a coward? That when things got hard, he'd flee, change the course of his life overnight to avoid the fallout and pain. Because if Ryland was like that, then Court wouldnt have to worry about Ryland turning out like him?
I feel like the fandom has mostly agreed that Court wouldn't re-enter the twins lives after being recruited as a sierra. And most of the time the explanation is, 'Court wouldn't want them in danger' which is definitely apart of it but I also think there's more to it.
Court knew when he was approached by fitz that he would be disposable. He would be trained, but he would also be sent on the worst jobs, the most dangerous, and the ones with the highest risk. I think part of his avoidance to them would be to minimize the damage of his death.
Court definitely expected to die a horrible death. Probably not immediately, but maybe years down the line -when the twins would be older.
Best case scenario, a shooting or a stabbing where he was left to bleed out. Worst case scenario would be unimaginable torture. His body probably wouldnt be recovered because of how graphic the nature of his jobs were, and if it was, itd be something they'd regret ever seeing.
And Court knew, with these types of deaths, theyd be more likely to seek revenge on their brother's behalf. Ryland, is was so smart and when he focuses on something, he becomes dedicated to it, and Colt, who is impulsive and loyal, and doesn't know when to quit.
So, not only would they have the anger and sorrow of their father, and their mother, and potential separation when they entered the system, but then theyd have the anger of Court too.
Not only the anger, but also, a potential outlet -tracking down what happened to Court.
So, the simplest choice -the safest choice- would be a death in the prison system. Something that they could never do anything about, and if they did, maybe it'd fuel them to do something noble with their lives. And there'd be no returning from that.
