A few scenes I wanted to write but couldn't seem to make work...until the right POV came along. And look, we all know Kat and Elliot are super in love. Max is taking notes.

The song fades, and Kat and Elliot make their way over to them, Elliot holding his hand out to Alice. “A dance?” he asks. “For the daughter of the bride?”
“Okay,” she laughs, accepting his hand. “But I am not as good as mom, so take it easy on me.”
“And I am terrible,” Kat says in a whispered aside to Max, almost making him jump in surprise. “So that is really saying something.”
Max huffs a polite laugh, suddenly feeling very awkward to be left alone with Kat while they watch Elliot and Alice dance.
Despite Max’s fears, he and Alice remained close in the semester they were both away at school, and have only grown closer this summer. He replays their conversation from last November over and over in his head, reminding himself that he does want to keep his distance and honor Alice’s space. Let her grow. While still keeping that hopeful corner in his heart that echoes Alice’s words on repeat.
Whatever road I’m on, in my gut, I think that it’ll lead to you.
