Brace yourselves because a Rant is coming in light of the fandom attacking a Blog.
Be mindful of trying to defend the villain. They're a villain for a reason, They Chose that path and by doing so accept the consequences of their actions in victory or in death. But I know that there will be those to defend his reasons to be honest with you, I don't blame you. If I was a King who reincarnated myself in the same brutal and unforgiving lifestyle while my neighboring kingdom flourishes (and by theory or speculations become high and mighty about it) I would be pretty pissed. In fact I would be internally livid.
Do not forget that Ganondorf is also the unholy incarnate of HATRED by Demise aka The Zelda version of THE DEVIL. He was really born to be the iconic villain but rather than just start the world hating everything he was a Gerudo first. A King to his people. Whatever happens your people either it be them or their benefits from YOUR actions is to them. That's the role of a ideal king. Unless you're a tyrant when you're in it for yourself. So let's see and break down OoT a bit since we saw Ganondorf first. He owns Hyrule, he betrayed the Royal Family and declared himself as King. It's obvious the Hylians will get the blunt of the impact hence why Zelda was kept out of power and kept in his custody. But his reign needed to be Absolute, So he had to keep a firm and brutal grip on the other tribes. This lead to anyone against him or forced to lose lives (i.e. Gorons being literally sacrificed to the dragon, Volvogia). So yes The Hero needed to defeat Ganondorf and liberate everyone from that type of rule.
Even before that, Nabooru who is very respected in the Gerudo saw the darkness of Ganondorf's actions. She would speak out against it. While both had their views in favor to the Gerudo she could've seen him being a King and taking advantage of the tribe for his own dark destiny. But she is not the ruler, Hence her being exalted. So we have Evidence that Ganondorf can legitimately go against anyone that doesn't agree with his methods. Even a Proud Gerudo like Nabooru.
Then we have Wind Waker, A game where the Goddesses broke their silence and intervened knowing full well of Ganondorf's intentions to prevent another OoT scenario. At the price there is no Gerudo present but Ganondorf, He's alone without his people. Would he save Hyrule by the flood to rule peacefully? Well you have to keep in mind that not everyone is going to be proud of Ganondorf as king/emperor. Especially when his desire to rule and the means to take it brought this great flood to begin with. He does show remorse since he's at the point there's nothing left to live for unless he gets that wish. True he kept Zelda and Link alive since all he wanted was the pieces of the Triforce. Even though he left Toon Link with a warning of a beat down, He still didn't get his wish. Hyrule is inevitably gone. Realizing that he will now try to kill both Link, Zelda, and even Daphnes at this point.
What am I trying to say for Ganondorf?
You can have Good motives, but it all comes down to how you present them. Ganondorf's influence effects ALL of Hyrule. Even the world should it reach that far. Is he a bad character? No he's not a bad character. To be frank I love villains Like Ganondorf since it helps you think. He's very cryptic of his character. There's so much we don't even know yet other than we know he's the most iconic villains in Zelda or Any Video Game history. There's consequences to every action you take, even if it's for a good cause.
Can we look at Hyrule for a second? We have the Hero of Time, He saved Hyrule from Ganondorf's reign. But remember he told Zelda of Ganondorf's plot. And then you get Twilight Princess. Now the War affects the Twili. The Gerudo are gone and presumed exterminated. Even if Zelda didn't agree to such massacres it was a war, and Her duty is to HER People and and Royal Family. We know there's a Iconic Villain but anyone is a villain through the eyes of another. The Royal Family definitely went through questionable actions subtly in the series, Even the Shadow Temple houses this hint.
Zelda is a beautiful franchise that appeals to both young and old. With a keen eye and optimism you can decipher many rumors and hints. No one is perfect, There's political tensions and balance of what goes on between tribes. They want every character to have more appeal or dimensions than being bland and generic. It gives you a sense to explore the landscape and even situations close to real world ones at that. That's why there's tribes, They can be allies until you choose one in favor of the other. Or if they don't agree with the policies it hurts them or any standing. Gives yet another reason why Midna broke the mirror.
So what does this all mean?
- Villains are still villains to the eyes of who they're against or what they do in actions. The exception being they're a Hero to those they support or what they tell themselves.
- AU/Canon pairings are okay they happen in Fandoms. Just be mindful of the characters you have and their canon experiences. Since some are delicate. (If you want things to be peaceful that's okay too. Do what you and your partners do. No one should tell you how to Be your character of choice.)
- Do not jump and pounce on throats with people who don't agree with your perception. We seen a Fandom with a series ended a while back and holy crap that was a mess. Fandom wars KILLS a Fandom.
- Most importantly, Have Fun. Enjoy everything you have in a fandom. Either it be Role playing or Admiration for a character. Just don't get hostile and respect opinions.
