Happy STS! It is hot and humid- how are your OCs doing in the heat?

Happy STS! (Sorry for the delay, I took a break from Tumblr for a bit.)

Zorina and Sorin are staying under a large umbrella, and for good reason... they are quite prone to sunburns and don't do well in the sun at all. (They are from Nod-Krai and have spent a significant amount of time in Snezhnaya.)

Zorina gets cold easily, so she's enjoying the warmer weather. Conversely, Sorin misses the colder weather at home but he's happy to see his sister is enjoying it, at least. The thing Zorina needs to get used to, though, is wearing less clothing outdoors... she's so used to bundling up in layers that the mere thought of wearing a bathing suit in public (or even shorts) makes her blush. (Another reason why she's staying under an umbrella and out of direct sunlight.)

I'm imagining them at the beach either reading, watching everyone else having fun from the sidelines, or making a sand castle together.

She clings to the memories she still carries in her heart, the ones she still plays in her mind. The muscle memory burns deep, sinking into her very bones, causing her to pause mid-conversation. As though the silence will respond. And it does. It always does.

After the loss of the Ragnvindr household’s master and the departure of those who once filled its halls, Adelinde remains at Dawn Winery, tending its routines as though nothing has changed. But in the quiet hours, the house remembers what it no longer says aloud—and she learns to live among the echoes of what used to be.

In Snezhnaya, the land of frost and ice, it often takes quite a bit of persuasion to get someone to go to the opera house or theater. On bitterly cold days, most would rather stay by the hearth than traipse across the snow just to catch a performance.

Many, however, make an exception for Odette's ballet performances.

Whenever her name appears on a show publicity poster, the lines start forming at the ticket window. Those standing patiently in line are not there because of her sweet smile, for she almost never smiles at the audience. Nor are they drawn by any warmth in her manner — once the curtain falls, she does not remain onstage for even a second longer. Instead, they have come for the dance performance itself. The instant Odette rises to the tips of her toes, even Snezhnaya's howling winds seem to fall still. Every step she takes is so precise, it takes the breath away from everyone in the theater. To her fans, that cold demeanor of hers only makes her more alluring.

This young lady who has captivated so many onstage is also a member of the Fatui.

Her days are divided between the troupe and the Fatui. Her dance practices begin in the early morning, while her training with the Fatui usually stretches late into the night. Her own practices and urgent missions fill whatever time that remains. In the practice room, she stretches to her limits before rising into dance. At the training grounds, she swiftly moves on to her next task after bringing down her opponents. Day after day, she continues like the dancer of a music box, turning without end, as though she never tires, as though she never needs rest.

A friend once asked her, "Don't you ever get tired, going back and forth like that between ballet performances and the Fatui?"

Odette cocked her head in response, seemingly in thought. Then she gave her answer, one that could not be any plainer: "But I'm already used to it."

Ooh, I think my reasons are very similar to yours. I want to have fun and tell stories in a different way, or do something people may not have thought of.

I like giving my readers a sense of warmth, either through family/friendship interactions and/or a feeling of hope that things will get better as the story goes on.

I also want my readers to feel something, to connect emotionally with my stories in some way. Whether it's part of the story, a character's perspective, and/or a few lines that a character says or thinks, I want it to resonate with my readers somehow.

This is not a heatwave hitting my area as it turns out.

It's a heat dome. The same heat dome that is also sitting over parts of the eastern US. Same kind of weather that is currently melting the UK and south Asia.

Difference between heat wave and heat dome?

wave = air mass is moving, might last a day or two, sometimes longer

dome = air mass is stuck, will last at least four or five days, maybe longer

Drink water. Stay inside. Eat meals that require little cooking (like salads, microwave meals, anything quick-to-cook). Keep blinds and curtains closed. Use AC at least during the hottest hours, no matter the cost, your health is so much more important.

If you have pets, AC should be on, set to 24c/75f. If your home or apartment is too hot to you, it is also too hot for your pets. Have water set out, put an ice cube in it to make it colder.

Wipe down your arms with cool water. Fill your tub with cold water and walk in it. Wear thin, comfortable clothes. Pants are hell in heat like this, shorts and skirts are your friend. Limit your outdoor activity to evening hours when the sun is setting. Use an umbrella as a parasol if you have to go out. Sunglasses, sunscreen, all your friend. Make stops in shops/libraries/city halls to break up your trip if you are walking.

Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are not a joke.
