A Beginnerâs Guide to the Dark Magic Universe
Every shadow has an origin. Every origin begins with dark magic.
When I wrote my blog post:Â New Era of the Deamhan Universe two months ago, it was a promise that more was coming: more stories, more shadows, more of the dark world Iâve been building for years. But if youâre arriving here for the first time, you might be wondering: What is this Dark Magic Universe?
This post is for you. Think of it as a primer, a place to begin before stepping deeper into the shadows.
All worlds begin with light, but mine begins with shadow. The Dark Magic Universe is where every supernatural share a common root: dark magic. From Deamhan, Impa, Wraiths, Behesians, each are shaped by this same forbidden power. What unites them isnât just their origin, but the endless struggle to control or escape the darkness that birthed them.
When I first began writing, I knew one thing for certain: every creature in my universe had to come from the same place. It is the spark that created the Deamhan, the curse that shaped the Behesians, and the reason behind every supernatural in the Dark Magic Universe.
To understand this Universe, you must first understand where it all began: with a single act of grief, and the birth of a power that should never have been touched.
Long before secret societies or cursed bloodlines, humanity faced monsters. Vampires ravaged the ancient city of Sumer. Desperate, the people prayed to their gods, the Iara, but the heavens remained silent.
Until one Kashshapu, a priest of magic, lost his son. In grief, he called upon the Iara, and they answered. They gifted him dark magic. With it, he created the first Deamhan. In wielding such forbidden power, not all of it remained under his control. Stray currents of dark magic spilled outward, seeping into the world, and from that uncontrolled surge every supernatural creature in the Dark Magic Universe would one day arise.
As for Deamhan, the power demanded human hosts. Four were chosen, becoming the first Ramanga, Lamia, Metusba, and Lugat. But these creations soon turned on mankind.
Desperate again, the Kashshapu forged four more: Adze, Empusa, Estrie, and Ekimmu. For the last, he chose his own daughter, Amenirdis, as the host. But like the others, these creations also turned on humanity. Ordered by the king to end the nightmare, the Kashshapu could not destroy them. Instead, he sealed the very first Deamhan, remembered now as the Pure Ones, within an astral void called Limbo.
Before his execution, the Kashshapu inscribed his rituals onto the Dark Curse Tablet, splitting it in two so the secrets would never be fully recovered.
From this foundation, every supernatural being in the Dark Magic Universe can trace their existence back to the birth of dark magic.
Deamhan are its most infamous children: psychic predators who feed on the essence of their victims. They form the backbone of the hidden world, ruling from the shadows for centuries.
There are Behesians who are gifted with inherited abilities from the dark magic inside them, which passed from generation to generation. They see themselves as protectors of humanity, but their methods can be brutal, and their loyalty often lies more with their own.
Impa are essence-drinkers cursed with insatiable hunger. Without feeding they wither and die. Their bodies kept alive by the three stones lodged within their stomachs. They embody the way dark magic blurs the line between human and monster.
Wraiths are no less dangerous: restless spirits born of grief and tragedy, tethered to the living world by threads of dark magic. They are proof that even death is not safe from corruption.
Above them all linger the Forgotten Gods, the Iara themselves â deities abandoned, corrupted, or reborn. Some mourn, others rage, but all serve as reminders that dark magic was never meant for mortal hands, and yet its shadow still reaches across every creature who walks this universe.
The DMU isnât just about monsters. Itâs about choices, betrayals, and the fragile line between power and corruption. Every creature youâll meet, whether it be a Deamhan or Impa, exists because one man dared to wield dark magic. And that choice, the world was never the same.
