According to a recently popular post on this app, all it took for boys and men to cozy up to others they know to be racist, rapey, and to have generally violent tendencies toward women, people of color, non-Christians, and anybody who isnāt straight ā¦ was to be called ābrotherā and have their feelings coddled (at least superficially).

Check with your local municipality, but if you live in NYC and you donāt have metallic/shiny bits to your paper, it is recyclable, and can even be composted. CHECK LOCALLY.
Edit: Iām actually digging a little more and most major municipalities agree that wrapping paper isĀ recyclable as long as it isnāt metallic or waxed. Again, check if youāre not sure, but donāt listen to sweeping statements by strangers because rules vary WILDLY by region

Former manager here. I HATED forcing this mess onto employees because ALL it was at the end of the day was their way of having to get around actually paying you for the extra work you were often made to do. That fucking gift card will NEVER sing like a $2.50 to $3.00 pay increase over numerous checks would and they know this! And anytime I didnāt take the incentive seriously they threatened my position. At the place I worked at, I know they felt like they could easily get away with it simply because most of the employees hired were high schoolers, but if itās one thing despite it all that I always let them know was let NO employer make you believe these cheap little things were in their best interest. Oh and did I mention that often times I NEVER got paid back for some of the prizes I paid for out of pocket?

The music and entertainment industry and mainstream media need to stop enabling, excusing, and euphemizing R. Kelly's sexual abuse.

When itās small groups of women and queer folks having sex to make a living, they are criminalized, prohibited, stigmatized, and marginalized.
R. Kelly is a predator. He preyed on young black teen girls, cultivating them with gifts, cash, and attention. He knows just where young poor and working class girls are vulnerable. We grow up without our dads, or if theyāre physically present, we donāt feel we fully have their love. We grow up hungry to be special. Many of us lack material resources in a community where young people judge and attack each other viciously if our poverty shows on the outside.

Idk how to explain to people that the US isn't declining into fascism, it's been a fascist state since the moment it started with genocide and slavery.
People on this post keep insisting that it's not fascism because of lack of authoritarianism and not realizing that that's the fucking point.
There was a lack of authoritarianism for most people, most notably white people.
But what about the Native people who were forced into reservations that they weren't allowed to leave without permission? Who weren't allowed to speak their languages or sing their songs or dance their dances?
What about the black people who were forced into slavery and then into segregation? Who were separated from their families and weren't allowed to read or write?
What about the brown immigrants who were paid next to nothing for backbreaking work building a country that they weren't considered a part of? Who were forced to live in controlled housing where their every movement was monitored in case they tried to leave?
The US is and has always been a fascist state. Some people just have the privilege to ignore it.

Do I even need to explain this? This country was built on nationalistic propaganda and "AMERICA IS BEST" has been the justification of every single thing our government has done for the last 200 years.
Disdain for human rights:
Slavery. Genocide. The Trail of Tears. Indian boarding schools. Japanese internment camps. Forced sterilization. Separation of black and brown families. Forced servitude of immigrants. Jewish refugees being turned away and sent back to their deaths. Forced medical experiments on black and brown people. Mass incarceration. Families to left die in poverty. Need I go on? Because there's a lot more.
Identification of enemies for a unifying cause:
Literally everything relating to foreign powers from the very beginning of the US's formation. Even now, we're trapped in a Red Scare that's lasted for 70 years and pretty much every "conflict" we've been involved in has been justified with claims of foreign countries being a threat to us. On a local scale, so much of this country is built on fostering fears of black people, indigenous people, immigrants, and anyone else that can be framed as a threat to white Americans.
Rampant sexism:
Not going to get into this, there's already plenty of detailed discussions about the US's misogyny.
Controlled mass media:
This is more difficult because mass media is a very recent thing, but the government has had a chokehold on news and books and everything along that nature since those things became even slightly popular. Ever listened to early radio broadcasts? Those were chock full of blatant propaganda.
Obsession with national security:
Hoo boy! Again with framing everyone outside of the US as a threat! This became a really obvious issue recently with the border wall and was really kicked up after 9/11, but huge parts of US policy have been centered around so-called invaders, both in society and in government. Everyone is a threat to democracy and the American Way and if you don't agree, then you're a threat too.
Religion and government intertwined:

Corporate power protected:
Modern corporations in the US are a pretty recent invention, but monopolies have existed since the late 1800s at the latest. Governments have thrown huge support behind both monopolies and standard corporations for as long as those things have existed, at the cost of everything else.
Labor power suppressed:
Slavery. Immigrants forced into indentured servitude. Corporations and pre-corporate monopolies outright murdering striking employees. Companies BOMBING striking people. Company towns. Unions being systematically broken down. Health and housing being tied directly to labor. There's more but I'm tired.
Disdain for intellectuals and the arts:
Art and literature programs in every aspect of the country being defunded or outright ended. So many artists, especially leftist and anarchist artists, going missing or being brutalized or being driven out of the country. Political satire has existed for over a century and satirists have been harassed by the government for just as long. It's believed that the New English Canaan was the first banned book in the United Statesā and it was banned in 1637.
Obsession with crime and punishment:
The largest mass execution in the US took place in 1862, when 38 Dakota people were hanged under the orders of Abraham Lincoln. The 13th Amendment, passed in 1865, criminalized slavery except as a punishment for criminals and ensured our country's future of mass incarceration.
