LIFE STORY IN SONG - DOROTHY DANDRIDGE SHOWS ON STAGE (1953 Article)
"Dorothy Dandridge, now 30, has become a top attraction in nightclubs from New York to Nevada, with a new and apparently surefire formula for her show. In monolog and song she acts out in 25 minutes the transformation of her own personality (Life, Nov. 5, 1951) from demure to uninhibited -- or, as she calls it, "gutsy". What with her mobile oval face, her puma-lithe figure and her voice like silver bells with sex appeal, all stages have their fascination. The picture at the right represents one of the final stages.
"Dorothy's deepest ambition, however, is to push her dramatic talents beyond nightclubs and such movie roles as a jungle queen in Tarzan's Peril. This spring she will appear in two roles chosen from opposite ends of her gamut: in MGM's Remains to Be Seen she plays a sultry singer and in the same studio's See How They Run (Bright Road) she plays acts a gentle schoolteacher.
