disclaimer : just so we're clear, the whole debate about who "belongs" in an ER is ridiculous from the start and shouldn’t even be a thing.
however, the discussions around these questions — and especially how the show presents them and how part of the fandom repeats them — are extremely revealing in many ways, and it’s been bothering me for a while pretty sure it’s already been said, but I still wanted to say it.
i call to the stand : melissa king and samira mohan.
since s1, we’ve seen tons of takes about why samira doesn’t really belong / isn’t thriving in this specialty. which is then used by a part of the fandom to justify robby’s behavior and his comments toward her.
sorry but… where are these people when it comes to mel ? mel, who gets overstimulated by the environment really fast, who zones out the moment she’s overwhelmed, who can’t stop her personal feelings from bleeding into her work.
why don’t we hear you chanting the same arguments ? you — and robby, for that matter — never question her place in the ER. but samira, who has the misfortune of taking more time with patients and panicking about her future being completely upended ? she’s obviously not made for emergency medicine.
why ? we all know why
why do you understand that it’s irrelevant to question mel’s place, but not samira’s ?
could it be because acknowledging that would force you to question the way you interact with the show ? admit that the writing is biased, and unfortunately not intentionally ?

The fact that A League Of Their Own was a tv show with an ensemble cast of mostly women, multiple wlw relationships, multiple butch women, multiple women of color, and a black trans man, all in a historical setting exploring race and gender and sexuality during ww2, and it only got ONE fucking season????? I will never stop being mad about it.
