multifandom, but mostly the pitt, 911, and the west wing
i promise you that white man is not underrated
the west wing is fun until josh does something that reminds me too much of my frenemy who i took all my intro classes with and who now helps me run the student org for all the people in my department
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram
devastating when good characters are put into a stupid show. you were born to fly but that evil hag of a showrunner clipped your golden wings. be free on ao3, my little dove. be free

THE PITT 1x07-2x15
We're lucky to have you. aka Eddie supporting Captain Chimney Han 9-1-1
idk man the whole shooting arc at the start of season 2 really is the sentiment behind the line "what's next?". there's a reason it's emphasized when jed says it in the campaign office in new hampshire and why it's the first thing josh says when he wakes up from the surgery. because at the end of the day, what's next? they have to keep going. they can't dwell on it. both because they're trying to run the entire country, but also because if they dwell on it, it'll consume and eventually destroy them. toby wants to change how extremist organizations are handled. the rest of the staff is focused on flipping the house. they were just shot at, this means everything changes, right? change is what's next. and then at the end of the episode about the midterms, it turns out everything stays the same. republicans still have the house. the world is still turning. they're all still there to have beers on josh's front steps and say "god bless america" before they head back to the white house and ask "what's next?" once again.
funny thing about anxiety is sometimes it kind of breaks your sense of danger. like i am known for repeatedly putting myself in situations that make my friends go "bro you couldve died. werent you scared?" and the answer is 👍 yjeah. i did it scared. i do everything scared. i didnt know that was the actual important kind of scary because i usually have to ignore my fears to function in society. it will happen again. watch out.
yeah okay okay so charlie young goes in for a job as a runner and then gets tapped by josh lyman to be personal aide to the president and he denies the job about a dozen times before taking it. and then it turns out the job is great and he's met some really cool and awesome people and he started dating zoey and there's the threat of violence looming in the background, but maybe it doesn't seem quite so real. and then one day he offers the president of the united states something to say during a town hall type meeting. and then the president actually says it and attributes it to charlie by name. charlie goes up to josh and says josh was right you don't ever get used to the feeling, the very feeling that convinced charlie to keep the job back at the beginning of the season. and then he walks outside and white supremists try to kill him but instead of him they get the president and josh, the two people who charlie looks up to most in that workplace if not his life (not including his mother). and then months later he's walking around the white house looking at a little kid. that kid was charlie once. a long time ago, back before charlie lost his dad and his mom and took this job and got shot at by white supremacists. and that kid's dad tells charlie "if they're shooting at you, you're doing something right." and charlie says "yeah" multiple times as he's wrapping his head around the idea. his mom died in the line of duty. she died while getting shot at doing what we assume is the right thing. maybe if charlie didn't take this job, he wouldn't have gotten shot at. but he also wouldn't be part of the bartlet administration. he wouldn't be part of trying to change things for the better. so maybe he is doing something right despite it all.
that first press briefing after the shooting. the way the camera moves so fast from each reporter you can barely see them. the wall of noise and camera flashes the second cj finishes saying something. the way the press room seems more full, like the reporters are creeping in on all sides, the forward push of cameras and questions and microphones. cj leaning against the lectern like she's trying to create a space for herself to even think. "can you tell us anything?" "is there anything you know?". cj reaching for her necklace. she was pushed to the ground during an active shooting barely an hour ago. she's trying to quip with danny like she always does. "the canadiens. i mean the hockey team." she was in the hospital a few minutes ago hearing that the president is okay but josh might not make it. now THIS is television.
"shipping and blorbofication are not inherently at odds with understanding a story's deep themes" and "some people can't grasp the themes of a story because they never learned how to engage with stories outside of the lens of shipping and blorbofication" are two statements that can coexist
blorbofication to me is when you love a character in such a laser focus way that you somewhat detach them from the narrative from which they are inserted and treat them in a way roughly similar to how you'd treat an oc for which you still have no story and just like to put them in situations just for fun. which there's nothing wrong with btw, it's just that it can easily lead to people forgetting the character engine in a narrative and not just a barbie doll
I dont care about matt damon and ben affleck but they gave us Which could mean nothing so they are like rpf patron saints in a way
