I'll be so for real, designing fits for parts of the show I've never actually watched is hard as hell. The only thing I know about the Grand Prix Arc is Seto's iconic "anyone who's late for registration will be disqualified. Mokuba, make sure Wheeler's late" line.
At this point I might just have to make this a part 1 kind of thing and just draw the first couple of outfits.
Can you share more about Shion? I'd love to read their bio and learn all about them! Do you have any other YGO ocs in Shion's universe?
I have actually been some redesigns when it comes to Shion's character, so this ask came at the perfect time cuz it gives me the excuse to write it all down! Thanks Anon!
The info's under the cut cuz this post got longer than expected.
Shion is the youngest child of Michiko and Takeshi Chiba. They have an older sister named Nagisa. Takeshi was one of the original art designers of Duel Monsters and was a close friend of Pegasus.
When Shion was young (I'll still working out my exact timeline) Takeshi died under mysterious circumstances. It's established that last person he talked to was Pegasus because they were having a meeting regarding some new card designs.
About a month after Takeshi's funeral. Pegasus visited Michiko, Shion and Nagisa to give his condolences. Michiko found his sympathies hollow and threw him out in a fit of rage. He left behind a package with a strange wrist band and a letter basically saying "everything will make sense in time". Nagisa took the band and shoved it in the back of a wardrobe because they didn't want the mention of Pegasus to upset their mother.
The band was left alone for a few years until Shion found it again when house cleaning. The band was a Millennium Item and Shion unknowing woke up the soul inside. Very similar vibes to early story Yami Yugi. When they do become aware of the soul they're sharing a body with they nickname them Ghost due to initially believing the spirit was the ghost of their father.
Cut to years later Shion and Ghost become highly ranked in Duel Monsters tournaments. Specialising in dragon themed decks. Their favorite being one based around the Armed Dragon cards. Shion is invited to participate in Duelist Kingdom and sees it as an opportunity to question Pegasus about the night their father died.
The only other main OC in Shion's universe is Nagisa. At the start of the series she's Shion's self appointed manger (really just a vague excuse to keep an eye on Shion and make sure they don't get in trouble), but later starts working KaibaCorp and somewhat shenanigans her way into becoming Kaiba's assistant.
(this isn't Nagisa's final design I just wanted to get the colours down. I actually hate how this lineart turned out lol)
I was thinking of making a boyfriend for Nagisa, but that's just a vague idea. So yeah, no current plans for OCs, but who knows what the future will hold. Knowing me the more I revisit the anime the more OCs I'll make.
