Absolutely random Vario backstory/childhood headcanons, for no reason. At this point I almost hope they never give him canon backstory because this is who he is to me.

He’s the elder son and fourth child of eight hatchlings in his family, all sisters except the youngest from the third clutch. And he's by far the tallest and broadest. He was a big egg, but his growth exceeded everyone’s expectations. They expected so much of him.

His mother was a conniving woman in her own way, though Vario thought she was short-sighted and could have been worth a lot more, if she had the presence of mind to separate herself from the expectations of their species’ culture. She would regularly lie to planet customs to get contraband food through, using her children as leverage. If she underfed her brood and made them moody, she could turn irate on the customs officer, using her children’s discomfort as pressure. It was Vario’s first real life example of manipulation. He admired the way she would effortlessly turn her own children into blunt weapons to get her way.

Unfortunately, all she really wanted in life was to lay eggs and find good mates for her children so they could lay their own eggs. And so he dismissed her as another victim to the pointless, animalistic cycle of breeding (or so he thought often in his teenage years). He swore he wouldn’t be the same.

His younger brother loved and idolized him, but he didn’t really care for the kid. He considered all of his siblings lost causes, because none showed the same ambition as him. None of them wanted to leave and make something of themselves.

He and all his siblings fought tooth and nail regularly. Once he got big enough, he found he could hold any of his siblings back by putting a hand on their forehead because even the oldest and tallest of his sisters couldn’t quite reach him with their short arms. He also regularly turned his sisters against each other—which only worked as long as they didn’t decide to gang up on him, instead.

Looti is his real given name, but Vario is not. He made it up when he left home, something to separate himself from his background. A name that would be taken seriously. He hardly even thinks of himself as Looti.

24 If your OCs were the 'seven deadly sins', which would they be?

Pride - Astrid

Astrid not thinks but knows she's smarter and better than everyone around her. Despite being a replica droid, she explicitly thinks she's better than both standard droids and clones.

Envy - Zeeyal

He lives in envy of the person he believes he could have been, of the beauty he wants to embody that he sees in everyone else.

Wrath - A'nari Nuir

She's a classic mean girl, and very, very good at being one. She sees no issue with this. Be strong or die weak.

Gluttony - Axus

She craves total decadence of the flesh. Spice, glitterstim, sex, lavish foods, lavish acquaintances. Her greatest dream is to be bested in battle and then consumed by her killer. She won't accept death any other way.

Lust - Ayo

Intense longing and unrepentant sexual desire are like the pillars of his personality.

Sloth - Shaia Eval

In the sense that she abandoned her family and friends because she got pregnant and it freaked her out, and then didn't even give a shit about the child she bore.

Greed - Selaani Eval-Sobeck

Not in the modern sense, but in the way that she wants total control over everyone in her grasp. She embodies the idea of hardness of heart against compassion, the intentional refusal to see other people as more than what they are to her.

26 Who is the oldest OC you still create for? Who is the newest?

Astrid is by far the oldest. As a Star Wars OC, she dates back to 2011-ish, when I was deep into TCW and made her and Ayo simultaneously because I was heartbroken they killed Osi off in his arc. Then I started pairing her with Moralo when that arc aired because he's perfect for her.

But her concept predated my interest in Star Wars. I would say I was trying to create the archetype that would become Astrid as far back as high school, when I was developing an OC for original stories. She has, maybe unsurprisingly, deep roots in my "unrepentant asshole" era where I just wanted to be Gregory House or The Narrator from Fight Club if they were also a woman (no this fundamentally doesn't work, I was going through something). Luckily, she's taken on a lot of dimension and purpose since then and I think she's now one of my strongest, most well-rounded characters.

Axus Vollan is my newest OC. She's a Togorian bounty hunter who lives for the hunt, and for the post-hunt celebration. Nothing else matters to her. I made her so I can mess around with canon bounty hunters and in the TCW timeline without getting in the way of my other storylines. I also didn't have a simple, hedonistic character and I think sometimes you need that. Someone who isn't in their head all the time. Unlike so many of my other OCs.

10 Your funniest OC?

Probably Dagrin, both in personality and in circumstances. He takes himself so seriously in inherently unserious situations, which is funny to me. I love writing that type of character. When he's more in control, he uses his dry sense of humor puts people around him at ease, and he's good at it.

15 What is your favourite type of relationship to put OCs in?

I like enemies to lovers or just plain ol' contentious lovers who never stop biting at each other, psychologically or otherwise. I also like toxic "making each other worse" relationships a lot.

Most of my OCs I like to see happy and I end up putting them into basically functional, long-term relationships of some kind. Boring as it may be.

19 Is there an OC you've abandoned or retired?

Probably a few, but I rarely consider a character truly abandoned. More like, I put them on the shelf and I'll come back to them when it's time. Even if I'm not writing or talking about, for example, Lone (Resident Evil VIII OC), she's just in stasis in the back of my mind.

Astrid and Ayo have both gone through a few iterations since I created them, so you could consider those versions retired. They're not the same characters they were in 2011.

Astrid especially, was a character I was trying to create for a long time, and I have several unrelated non-fandom OCs that technically you could call her predecessors. Going back to high school, I built a whole archetype around what would become Astrid.
