MSNBC's political analyst was asked what created the environment for the shooting, said it could be his divisive rhetoric, and was fired on the spot
A UK student wrote "he got shot lol" in a private group chat and it made the news
The State Department announced that they will revoke the visas of foreign nationals who "praise, rationalise, or make light" of his death on social media
I mean, first off, people have the right to refuse orders, that's why "Just following orders" isn't a defense against crimes. Second, because the federal government doesn't get to order local authorities to do something without a legally established framework. There's not one 'everyone must obey this authority' in the US, orders are only lawful if they come down from someone who has the authority to give you orders. So a general can't show up to the police and give orders, because they're a different chain of command, same way the cops can't show up and order the military to send troops in to suppress protests. They're two different chains of command for very good reason. And, similarly, the federal government can't just demand local authorities carry out their duties for them. Your local cops aren't trained for immigration enforcement, much like ICE isn't trained to handle enforcing restraining orders.
Also, I do want to take a moment to comment on something I've seen several people comment on: yeah, it's Texas. But there are people in Texas with left-leaning views. What's surprising to me here is that the cops are the ones pushing back, that's unexpected to me.
I was curious because I know communities in WI where things like that are taking place. Some quick Googling and hey, it's far from perfect but it's absolutely something.
Every bit of resistance helps. Slow it. Hamper it. Ask your local politicians if they'll have their county cooperate with tearing apart your community. It is happening on little scales and large!

I'm only saying this for your sake, but objectively, it's not a smart idea to bring politics into normal hobbies. You might lose supporters of your blog just because of your political stance, and that would be terrible since you're so amazing!! It's only a suggestion, but I really reccomend not bringing politics into anything.
Quietly losing my mind over the fact that Elon Musk has straight up orchestrated a coup of our executive branch and like....I don't even know what, if any, system we have in place to fix this. Like... He's just taken control of the money and locked out the actual appointed officials. What the fuck.

Biden literally never, ever signed an executive order, bypassing Congress, to immediately send extra ammunition to Israel.
The claim that Biden signed an executive order sending ammunition to Israel is false.
Such sales are allowed under the Arms Export Control Act.
The Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, had approved the sale of ammunition to Israel twice before this completely unsourced tweet came out.
(Blinken is not Biden. Biden is the President.
I'm just not sure how much people are tracking this shit, with this level of disinformation going around.)
As this article explains: normally, Congress is in charge of approving big sales of ammunition or equipment to other governments.
But the State Department has the option to bypass Congress, sort of, IF it “determines and provides detailed justification to Congress that an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale" of whatever, to whomever.
So, in early December, the State Department approved a provisional sale of 120mm anti-tank cartridges to Israel, and notified Congress that it had to approve or reject the sale. Then at the end of December, it did the same for 155mm artillery projectiles.
BUT! the same law that gives them that power says the Secretary of State's "consent for immediate emergency transfers to Japan, Australia, South Korea, Israel, New Zealand, or any NATO member state shall not become effective until 15 days following the submission of that consent, and Congress may enact a joint resolution within that period prohibiting the transfer."
So, even if Blinken decides to "immediately" sell ammo to Israel (or Australia, or Japan, or....), Congress still has more than two weeks to say, "No, no you don't."
There is no such thing as an immediate, emergency sale of ammunition from the U.S. to Israel.
(There's especially not such a thing as an immediate, emergency DONATION of ammo, which is what it always sounds like people mean - at least to me, it does.)
There's no such thing as the President getting to just write an executive order changing that.
(At least not under Biden. Trump pulled that kind of shit all day long. I STILL remember him kicking trans people back out of the military VIA A FUCKING TWEET.)
