“Their names might as well have been one name—Koraandnova— so seldom were they spoken separately, and when they were, they sounded incomplete, like one half of a mussel shell, cracked open and ripped in two.”

I had the pleasure of designing the hardcovers of Chest of Fandoms’s exclusive edition of one of my absolute favourite book series, Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor!

Re-reading strange the dreamer>>
“He looked him right in the eyes and saw a man who was great and good and human, who had done extraordinary things and terrible things and been broken and reassembled as a shell, only then to do the bravest thing of all: He had kept on living, though there were easier paths to take.”
— Laini Taylor, Strange the Dreamer
Did it hurt? When you realized you don't have a wishmonger father figure to give you wishes to wish upon?
Because same.
watched atlantis today and was reminded that i have exactly one (1) favorite story. nerdy guy becomes obsessed with a long lost civilization and dedicates his life to studying it and learning the language and then he FINDS it and is the only outsider to truly understand it. also he falls in love with a magical cute girl and helps her save her city.
anyway if u love atlantis (like everyone should) go read strange the dreamer for another version of this story.
“He read while he walked. He read while he ate. The other librarians suspected he somehow read while he slept, or perhaps didn't sleep at all.” ― Laini Taylor, Strange the Dreamer.
Next up on the papercraft backlog - this one! Inspired by StrangeTheDreamer by Laini Taylor , featured on the Illumicrate mug that was included in the recent DOSAB Collections Edition box! I really love how both of Laini’s series have drastic contrasts of themes between light and dark, good and evil, ally and foe - and those themes really directed concept for this. The chaotic field of moths dissolving out of Sarai’s dress balanced out the buttery-smooth golden beasts flowing from Lazlo’s book as the two are joined in the middle, meeting somewhere halfway between dreams and nightmares.

“Sometimes a moment is so remarkable that it carves out a space in time and spins there, while the world rushes on around it.”

Laini Taylor, Strange the Dreamer
“There is a certain kind of girl the goblins crave. You could walk across a high school campus and point them out: not her, her. The pert, lovely ones with butterfly tattoos in secret places, sitting on their boyfriends' laps? No, not them. The girls watching the lovely ones sitting on their boyfriends' laps? Yes. Them. The goblins want girls who dream so hard about being pretty their yearning leaves a palpable trail, a scent goblins can follow like sharks on a soft bloom of blood. The girls with hungry eyes who pray each night to wake up as someone else. Urgent, unkissed, wishful girls.”
Laini Taylor, Lips Touch: Three Times
“Of all the godspawn out there, in all the worlds, with all their gifts, might there be one who. .. I don’t know. Someone who…makes new bodies for souls who need them? What are the chances?”
“Out of hundreds of worlds? It would be stranger if there wasn’t someone like that out there.”
– Laini Taylor, Daughter of Smoke & Bone
