the thing that i think some people get wrong about buffy summers is that... she is a deeply flawed character! every time i see someone posting about how "she can do no wrong" or "she's never done anything wrong in her life ever!" i die a little inside because yes! she is wrong sometimes! She can be be cruel and self-centered and self-absorbed at times and

…it’s not that I think some of you guys are WRONG, per se, in your analysis of certain literature/media and the patterns that then evolve within the fan content and fandoms of that art. It’s just that some of you have a tendency to make broad and sweeping generalizations about the reason for the appeal of whatever particular pattern you find problematic and it just makes you look unwilling to imagine that people with a differing opinion/preference are actually fully embodied people with rounded motivations, whose reasons for being a certain way could be either more or even LESS complex than whatever armchair therapy option you’ve concocted.

I would never say so in your notes for fear that I’d be accused of bean soupery. But I truly think y’all are a little bit weird for it, and you’d benefit from either not taking shit so seriously OR committing to actual open-minded exploration and examination of other perspectives. This strange middle ground probably isn’t actually making you any better at understanding other people.
