Long Overdue || The Astors
âThank you.â April sighed in relief and gave him a smile. âWell thatâs a huge weight lifted off of me.â She had been prepared to go to battle but if David was really going to try then things would hopefully go smoothly. Ryan had been through too much to have to deal with David being over protective and all she really wanted was for them to be a family together. The two really were all she had left.Â
âNow on to the other thing I wanted to talk to you about.â April scooted back so she could lean against the headboard. âSo how did it feel to finally get a handle on your power?Â
It was nice to talk about something David was actually elated to speak of for a change. The grin on his face proved his happiness to the change of topic. He sat up straighter, dusting off his pants before scooting toward the edge of his bed.
Without another word, he put his hands out. The icy tips of his fingers tinged a blue grey as he began to manipulate the water molecules in the air. He still had to close his eyes, breathe right and concentrate in order to make anything happen, but slowly, the glass pane across the room began to freeze over.
He heard the breath hitch in his sisterâs throat as she sat next to him, the daintly lines of ice drawing out the her name in languid cursive across the glass.
Long Overdue || The Astors
âBecause Iâm asking you to. Because you two are the only family I have left and I donât need tension between the two of you. Because him and I are the only family you have left. Because he once gave up his own freedom to save the people he cared about.â April paused, already exhausted from the conversation.Â
âThe three of us live in this house together. I donât need you pulling some macho brother stuff and I guess its my fault for keeping you in the dark about everything and not introducing you to Ryan beforehand. But I canât change that, I was trying to protect you. I just need the two of you getting along otherwise I might lose it.â
David paused, allowing himself the last bite of his bread before responding to his sister. He hated to admit it, but she was right. There werenât many people capable of giving their lives for another in this day and age. David couldnât count Ryan out, especially when, even though he hated to admit it, the man had done more good than harm when it came to the resistance.
âAlright. If you think itâs best. I could be nice... cordial.â David gulped, finally turning to his sister. âIf heâs done what you say heâs done, I donât really have a choice, do I?â
He wasnât being rude, but stating fact. There were too many dangers in this new world, and although David wasnât sure what side he was on just yet, it didnât mean that he was certain he would survive tomorrow. In fact, he was determined to fix things, to patch things up enough to feel comfortable around April, even if that included the niceties that came with being a brother in law.
Long Overdue || The Astors
âThanks.â David said through mouthfuls of bread as he pushed himself up against his pillows. His explanation wasnât anything April would actually understand, and truth be told, David knew that he hadnât been the nicest person when it came to Ryan and how he was treating him.
âListen April. I understand and appreciate the kindness of Ryan and his family for allowing us to get away from the city for awhile. I appreciate what Ryan has given you and that youâre happy with him. I called him a coward because he refuses to talk details with me. I bring up one thing. One simple thing about treating you with respect, because thatâs what brotherâs do, and he rolls his eyes and walks out.âÂ
David swallowed. shaking his head.
âI wasnât screaming at him, I wasnât attempting to make him feel like shit. I wanted to bond with him. Let him know that I was here for you and him, but he refuses to give me the time of day. Like I donât fucking exist. And thatâs now my problem? Iâll pass on the brotherly love then, especially now that heâs gone and whined to you about it. Iâm not sure thatâs telling of my character or his. Guess thatâs for you to figure out.â
âDavid, you have no idea what Ryan has been through.â April pulled her legs up under her on the bed. All of this was beyond idiotic and she wanted to smack both of them upside the head. Â
âGive him some time. Heâs been through a lot more than any of us have. So donât pressure him into talking or youâre just going to end up in a confrontation. Then Iâm just going to have to kick both of your asses and thatâs not going to be pretty.â She didnât want to have to tell him about what happened to Ryan, at least what she knew, in Avery so she hoped that he would try and not push him.Â
âRyan is one of the good guys, Davey. Heâs the exact opposite of everyone I ever dated in the past. I get that you want to protect me but you donât need to. I trust him with my life, Iâd trust him with yours. Please, just donât push his buttons.â
"Give him time?" David groaned, shaking his head at his sister. "You say that like we have time. Like were living some sort of privledged life right now, April. I know you may trust him with our lives, and I'm not saying that he isnt some sort of hero, but even after all this time I hardly know anything about him. How am I supposed to trust that?"
He was always truthful with April. He had to be because he was the Astor capable of doing so. He meant his sister no harm, but honesty was always his policy.
"Tell me why i should trust him? If you can give me reason, then I'll let it go."

âThank you April for bringing me something from the first batch of bread before everyone else could eat it.â April glared at him and his lack of manners for a long moment.Â
âI want to discuss why you picked a fight with my husband, minutes before our wedding ceremony, in his familyâs house after they graciously hosted us for a week to get the hell out of the city. It was completely uncalled for and disrespectful to them, and whether or not you like him he is my husband and they are a part of my family now.â There wasnât going to be any easing into this conversation. She had already let her brother off the hook for long enough when it came to his attitude and she wasnât going to stand for it any more.Â
âAnd please, please, tell me what the hell Ryan could have done for you to call him a coward. Because that one I just canât wrap my mind around at all.â
âThanks.â David said through mouthfuls of bread as he pushed himself up against his pillows. His explanation wasnât anything April would actually understand, and truth be told, David knew that he hadnât been the nicest person when it came to Ryan and how he was treating him.

Desperate Times|| David & Chris
âCanât turn what off?â he asked, hesitantly stepping inside. Chris noticed how he seemed to be shivering, despite the warm weather they were having, but the room was a bit chillier. Slowly Chris reached down and when he felt how cold he was, he pulled his hand back like it was burnt. âHoly shit,â he muttered, finding the nearest blanket and covering him up with it. He wasnât sure where April was but David was right - he needed to warm up. âHey, just relax. April will be back in no time.â
David inhaled, trying his best to clear his mind as he shivered. he could feel the ice in his bones, his blood freezing over as he lie there hardly mobile enough to speak.Â
Slowly, he began realizing the warmth of the blanket, his body heat, or what there was of it, began to bounce between his icy flesh and the softness of the fabric.
âThanks...â He mumbled, keeping his thoughts warm, hot even as he conjured up visions of the Sahara.Â
David could feel the tip of his nose again, and as the moments when on, his fingers and toes. It seemed as quickly as this bout came around, he was capable of thawing himself out.
âThatâs never happened before. Not internally at least.â David managed as he pulled the blanket tighter around is cool body.
Long Overdue || The Astors
After the crazy events during what was supposed to be their wedding reception, April hadnât been able to have the talk with her brother that she knew they desperately needed. After what heâd said about Ryan the two needed to finally hash everything out, something they should have done months ago.Â
âGet up.â She ordered as she barged into his room without knocking. The wood burning stove that she and Isaac had been working on was now done and they finally had fresh bread again. April tossed something that was a cross between a roll and a biscuit, the first batch still warm from the oven, at her brother and sat down on the edge of the bed. âWeâve need to talk.â
David opened an eye, a groan dryly escaping his throat as he forced himself up. He was never a fan of the âwe need to talkâ, but he knew that it was inevitable when it came to April.
It took him a moment, but David finally sat, tossing the warm bread between his hands as he looked at his sister. With a huff he took a bite, his eyes half rolling in the back of his head as he rolled it around in his mouth.
âYes, darling sister. What is it that youâd like to discuss?âÂ
He knew damn well what she wanted to talk about, but there would be nothing he could say, nothing he could do that would dissuade her. The damage was done already, and although Ryan hadnât really done anything wrong, David still felt the need to despise the man on principle alone.
Desperate Times|| David & Chris
Chris was busy on the roof making sure that his water trap was still up and running. Thankfully Vanessa had done a very good job and everything seemed to be in order. With everything going on recently, these moments alone where he was working on things to help the Resistance calmed him. After a few more observations he headed inside, only come to a halt when he heard someone calling for April. He knew April was not there, probably out helping Ryan with something so he figured he go tell whoever it was she wasnât here. Of course when he found the source and saw the guy laying in the fetal position, something sent alarm bells ringing in his head. âYou okay, buddy?â he asked, stepping in cautiously so as to not scare him.
David shivered, his bones aching as his eyes darted up. He could hardly see who was in front of him, but at least his ears were still working enough to help him figure out that whoever it was, was male.
âI canât - I canât turn it off!â David stuttered, his teeth chattering as he tried but failed to flex his fingertips. Heâd been feeling off all day, his melancholy getting the best of him, but worse of was his anger, his frustration. Heâd let it bottle up inside him, refusing to get anything out until it was far too late. He was a cannon, and he was exploding from the inside out.Â
âA-april...â David murmured again, his jaw clenching as the panic roiled through him, his veins frigid as he tried to gain his composure. âNeed heat.â
Weâre Doing What? || Open
Well that I didnât expect.Â
And practice with what? Guns?
I was going to use lawn flamingos, but guns would work for target practice. You game?
Weâre Doing What? || Open
Or something. And your sister will probably kill me if she knew you were talking to me.
Eh, what April donât know wonât hurt her. Youâre here, and Iâm just being cordial. What does she expect? That I treat every agent like a fucking leper? Nah.. itâs a beautiful day, and Iâm ready to get some practice in. How âbout yourself, agent Porter?
Weâre Doing What? || Open
Youâve got to be kidding.
Never kidding. You know that you should never joke about guns and shooting shit. Arenât you a cop or something?
Preparations || Wedding Guests
Letâs seeâŠwhere did I put that stupid thingâŠ.
Forever losing stuff, huh Chris?
Desperate Times|| Resistance
He had to figure something out. Had to find a way to make his abilities work in his favor. David knew that if he didn't, there would be no way to accept what he was, who he was now and someone would end up hurt, or worse. His problem now was who to turn to. Yes, there was his sister, but the outlook was still from for the rebels hiding out in his home. There was no telling which way the coin would truly end up. "April!" David called from his room, his body shivering as he stared down at his purple fingertips. The house was quiet. The majority of it's occupants out on some sort of supply hunt. The cold spread up his arms, making his elbows ache as he tried to keep the power inside, the thought of unleashing it, even I an inanimate object something David didn't want to do. "April!!!" He screeched again, too damn scared to move from the fetal position he was laying in on the bed.
Cotton Eyed Joe (Candy Addicts
The fair was a blast for Helena. People enjoyed Jana and her work, asked tons of questions about the future of those lands, and it pleased the hybrid that they even projected themselves into it, it meant they were looking forward to a future hand in hand with the new order. It could make things easier. She knew that most of them were either scared, or opposed because threatened in their freedom. She wished they would not feel like this, she had felt like that for a very long time and she just knew how hard it was. Â
She , however, was not naive, and knew that people would always disagree, and that the happiness of some would be the misfortune of others. She could not save them all or convince them. Taking a break from it all, especially since she most highly needed it, she ended in one of the food area, waiting for some sweets which attracted the masses, she spotted a known head.  Smiling to herself, she first bought her sweets which was an impressive amount of sugar filled stuff and a cotton candy , then walked to the man she had spotted. An old client of hers when she was still working as a masseuse.  âWell isnât it my favorite client David Astor â she spoke out loud after poking his shoulder.  âCotton Candy? If I recall your rambling on my bench, you are quite fond of them, right? â
David turned is mouth full of the pink fluffy stuff as he heard Helenaâs voice. âHey there! He called, getting up from his seat to give the woman a proper hug. He missed his time in CitySpire, and his old life. He missed the electricity and the ease of his day to day activities. Life now had changed drastically. He truly felt has if he didnât belong on either side, his head jumbled with his sisterâs stories and the promises the Originals had made.
âWhat I wouldnât give to see you again.â Dave grumbled, nodding toward the seat where he had just been sitting. âI could use a damn good massage right about now!â
