In 2010, for my Senior Communication Design capstone project, I created a series of illustrators for Edgar Rice Burroughs’ pulp sci-fi adventure novel “A Princess of Mars”.
Every few years since then, I’ve thought about redoing an illustration or two. How would I do it differently today? I’ve had some fun results redoing old work before. So I finally decided, 15 years on, to take a crack at it:
And I gotta say, I’m thrilled at the results. Over the past decade-and-a-half as a professional illustrator, I’ve learned so much about anatomy, color, line quality, posing, expressions, perspective, composition, visual design, and digital art tools. Seeing these drawings side-by-side is a huge deal for me – in 2010, this was my absolute best work. In 2025, I feel I’ve exceeded it exponentially.
See below the cut for a full version of the original, and this post for a book-accurate, uncensored version of the new illustration.

Do you like immersive theater? Stormy historical drama? 19th century horror & romance? Reader, we have a show for you.
Disremembrance is the story of the night a teenaged Mary Shelley started writing Frankenstein – a tale of monstrous interpersonal drama amongst five Romantic poets trapped in a house during a stormy summer. This upcoming immersive show casts you, the audience, as ghosts in a space between the 1800s and the 2000s, watching the drama play simultaneously throughout the house where Shelley penned her horror classic.
We're crowdfunding a series of limited-run "lab performances" this October in NYC. Want to know more? Follow our BackerKit pre-launch page. See you in the heart of the storm...

IT IS MIDNIGHT IN GOTHAM CITY.
Batman: Bump in the Night is an improvised Audio Fiction/Actual Play hybrid fanfiction podcast in which @charaznablescanontoyota and I take turns presenting the other with paranormal Batman mysteries to solve.
The Riddler's reign of terror has ended, but Gotham City has been left changed, dangling on the precipice of the SUPERNATURAL. Only one man stands between the city and the shadows... this is BATMAN: BUMP IN THE NIGHT.
The first three issues are now available on their own public feed, including:
Issue 0: In which Marn and I build a giant Miro board with our vision of Gotham, including the extremely necessary details:
Issue 1: TERROR AT 11:11 PM: In which Batman has to stop a serial-killing Clock King, and stumbles onto a much larger supernatural conspiracy in the process
Issue 2: DEATH COMES TO GOTHAM ACADEMY: Batman meets some teens
You can hear future episodes on the Moonshot Patreon or My Patreon, including a supernatural take on The Ventriloquist and Hush. New episodes drop the first Wednesday of the month (new comic book day!)
