Jester — his role in the circus system and his attitude toward people.
In the fandom, Jester is often jokingly called "mother," and his behavior does show traits like that. But where did this overprotectiveness begin?
If we look at psychology, this kind of behavior is often a consequence of past trauma. In Jester's case, it was helplessness in the face of circumstances — a situation that no one took control of in time, which led to a great tragedy.
Almost all of our traumas have their roots in childhood, and I think it's similar for the monsters. In Jester's backstory, they all lived in some meadow, and later started working for a human. I believe they ended up in such a dependent relationship because of their own inexperience. If they had known what humans were really like, they probably wouldn't have agreed to it willingly.
To me, at the beginning of their story, they really come across as children or very young creatures. By the time of the main plot, they're already quite mature, with a wealth of experience behind them that allows them to survive in this world. If we assume monsters live very long lives, and also consider that they may have been part of one of the first freak shows (which, by the way, appeared as early as the 1870s), then this idea makes a lot of sense.
So, as a young individual, Jester ended up in such horrifying circumstances — with no one to rely on, and his only family on the brink of death. This left a deep mark on his soul, which we can clearly see in the game's main story.
This trauma also shaped how he interacts with the world. In his relationships with humans, Jester reproduces the very same dynamic he once existed in — namely, the "owner–pet" dynamic. Only now, of course, he is the one in the owner's position, alongside his family.
In the past, he was kept in a cage — now, he keeps countless people in the cage of his hypnosis. He was fed on a schedule like a dog — now, he "feeds" the player with fear, showing exactly who holds all the power. His fate was decided without his consent — so now, he decides what role someone else's life will play in his world. This is, in a way, the only kind of relationship with humans he has ever learned — one he may not consider "normal," but at least it's functional and familiar.
Jester presents himself as a strong and responsible figure. This is clear not only from his current position in the circus, but also from how he acted in the past. Remember when Pierrot was locked in a cage — Jester was the first to sneak in and feed him. They weren't related by blood, but he still felt responsible for his well-being. Over time, that responsibility grew into full control over the circus.
And what about what he says after his show? "Don't wander too far, guest — I can always find you." And this probably isn't just an empty threat. Jester literally has eyes and ears all over the circus — in the other monsters, and in the fools under his control.
If you managed to eavesdrop on the conversation in the black tent, you might have noticed how Jester acts as a reliable support for Ticket Taker. Ticket Taker made a mistake — he forgot to dispose of a missing girl's bag. Jester doesn't coddle him, but he doesn't lash out either. He simply says he'll take care of it, and that Ticket Taker — as his old friend — has nothing to worry about. The scene is tense, but it reveals his character and his true commitment to the circus. He has to be the foundation that everyone can lean on when things go wrong. In the past — with Columbina — he saw all too clearly what can happen when there's no control over a situation.
When it comes to the player, Jester behaves in a slightly threatening manner. He makes it very clear that our life holds no value to him, so we'd better not do anything foolish. One person might not be a threat to a monster, but Jester knows all too well what can happen if humans show up in large numbers. He's already considering the worst-case scenarios, all to protect his home and those who live in it.
However, someone with this kind of behavior is often at their most vulnerable when they themselves are weak. He's so used to being everyone's pillar of support that he probably wouldn't be ready to accept that same help from anyone else. The very thought of repeating the pattern from his childhood could send him into a spiral of panic — forcing him to once again feel that unbearable weight on his shoulders.

Hi! I can't ask this question on the official TFC Tumblr, and since you have practically a direct connection with Neko, I'd like to ask a question. I'm seeing a lot of people worried about the fact that Harlequin and Pierrot are siblings, and since there are plans for a polyamorous route, the concern is increasing. Could you confirm whether or not they are canonically siblings? Because it might feel very strange and uncomfortable to ship the two of them knowing they're siblings…
They are not siblings. They are not related in any way, and neither are any of the other circus members. People are free to interpret their relationship however they like in their own experiences of the game, but canonically they are not siblings.
The circus is a group of people who care about one another and consider themselves family, and I think that word has been misunderstood or mistranslated to hell and back— my wife and girlfriend are my family, my friends are my family, that term isn’t solely for people you share blood relations with.
Apologies for my firm tone, but this misinformation is persistent and annoying as hell since I suspect people keep making assumptions and then further assuming that information is ‘canon’ without actually looking into it or making sure the source is reliable or translated correctly!
@0-candlecove-0 happy Valentine’s Day my love. I am so lucky to have you in my life. I appreciate you so much and I can’t wait to spend the day together! Thank you for choosing me as your partner. I am so lucky!!!
Unfortunately, our other partner isn’t on Tumblr so I will send them their message privately, but I love you so much!

Who does he go to first?
Guys what if the reason Ticket Taker has one blue eye and one white eye isn't heterochromia, but that he's blind in one eye?
I'm just thinking that given his attraction is full of mirrors he could use the reflections to keep everything and everyone in sight despite the reduced field of vision. Like the mirrors wouldn't be handy just for the illusions but they'd be an actual aid to him. Also the fact that half of his mask is just blacked out adds to the idea of having half of the field of vision just missing, and putting the black side on the opposite side of the white eye might be a way to slightly hide it - the lighter eye on the lighter side and darker eye on darker side would create less of a contrast between the individual eyes and the mask's surface, making it harder to notice the difference between the eyes in real life. Colour theory or something. And the fact that the eye on the white side has that little drippy thing... Like bleeding? Maybe he was injured during the days of their captivity.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it though. Just a theory. I like making theories. Also damn it's midnight why is it midnight :( I want to pick up my sketchbook and draw TT now but I share the room I can't turn the light on. Damn.
To my dearest Dawn,
I love you <3

AHHHHHH I LOVE YOU TOO SO MUCH MY BELOVED
Do you think the entire circus freaks out when one of their stomach growls? How long do you think it took Pierrot to eat again after the moonless night?
Do you think that they watched each other eat and keep tabs on how much each of them eat?
I wanna write a fan fic about them having food related trauma where they freak out if they don’t think one of them has eaten yet because yeah, I feel like they would be paranoid about that.
Do you think Harley Quinn has a mental breakdown every so often when they eat?
Do you ever think that they get a taste of iron in the back of their throat that they can’t make it go away
I was thinking about Columbina's words when we try to give our character her name. (We are not the same. You and I. I didn't want to. But our fate was cursed. I should have listened to him. It was my fault.)
Columbina definitely disobeyed the Jester in some way, and she says she is guilty of something. The question is — of what?
I have these thoughts, very far-fetched and out of nowhere, of course, but why not? What if Columbina fell in love with a human — meaning she wasn't in love with Pierrot or Harlequin, but specifically with a human. And she brought him to them (to the monsters). But the human took advantage of her feelings, actually feeling nothing for her. In the end, this human brought other people, and what happened next is told in Harlequin's story.
So my idea is that Columbina didn't heed the Jester's warnings about humans.
What do you think about it?
Yes, I realize it was just a blind guess...🥹🤧
I want to add to the post with this wonderful insight — I think it sounds more logical this way👇🏻
Sorry if you find some grammar mistakes 😅😅😅
I was messing with the new lighting tools on my phone so I could see him better cause phone lighting is weird with certain games. 1st screenshot is how it looked originally too me.
(I think that’s one of the cleanest screenshots I’ve seen of that scene)
I have a theory that Harlequin might be a naga but that could be because they are similar to a Siren/Mer
OOOO THATS A COOL ONE!!!
You know who it is. It's the Ringmaster (Jester) himself! He's getting the hang of not using his "uniform"... but he can never get the eyes quite right 👀
Anyways, he's an eldbitch (eldritch bitch) who genuinely just wants to fuck with people (not like that). His moral compass is more like asking a defective magic 8 ball, where all the answers are unhinged and uneasy. He has some weird morals with children where he won't kill them unless they've been "naughty". What does that mean? Literally anything he wants it to.
Everyone hates him, and he's horrible lol. Don't get stuck with him, ever.

THE FUCKER! DONT GET HIS AFFECTIONS HE DOESNT LET GO
A little something I noticed (TW sensitive topics like SA and SH (sexual harassment)
in one of the AMA (either part 1 or 2 dont remember)
Pierrot was asked if he would let the MC be a nudist model for artists. (like stand there naked while artist cry for like 4-5 hours covered in charcoal) he had a strong concerning reaction. calling it dangerous.
since he is a Yandere many would think he is just being possessive. but when day 2 came out we were introduced to Columbina and part of their backstory. and I noticed, that is is strongly suggesting Columbina was being sexually harassed or assaulted..
in day two when we go into the blue tent two workers were making flirty remarks towards her and she was clearly uncomfortable, it was also further implied when she said she was scared to be Touched again.
so my guess is the others knew about what was happening with Columbina, but when they interfere they would get abused (like Pierrot bleeding out in the cage.)
so Pierrot having a strong reaction to MC being a nudist for artists and calling it dangerous, is because of his experience with Columbina, and him being obsessed with the MC..
