its so important to me that shane will NOT be curtailing or even ALLUDING to curtail Ilya's tendency to Be An Annoying Little Shit. that's his husband. and he releases him on the world for enrichment.
shane would "he asked for no pickles." and ilya would love it. not because he can't stand up for himself or any of that (he most certainly can; hes the worlds most brash and obnoxiously confident man <3) but because no one's ever stood up for him before. obvi its small scale and over a mistake, but ilya eats it up every time. and shane loves it bc he loves to take care of his baby even if they both know ilya is more than capable of doing this himself
Crucially #myshane plays to his twentieth season which is just long enough to have the experience of meeting Ottawa's new draft prospect, also named Shane, and to smile and jokingly say, "Hey nice name," and for the rookie to gulp and say, "Thank you sir I am named after you" and that makes Shane sit in his stall and stare at the floor between his skates for. Significantly too long to be healthy.
Shane notices that Ilya always has to be doing something. At first, he thinks its sweet, attentive.
"Is your blanket warm enough? I'll go get another one."
"I will carry plates, go sit."
"Practice is optional for players, Shane, not captain."
And, look, Shane isn't one to lay about. He's up for morning runs, he attends almost every optional practice, he's meticulous about his work out routines. He's a top athlete and so is Ilya, they both work incredibly hard to stay at the top. Still, Shane doesn't have a problem with a lazy afternoon reading in bed, or a free weekend spent at his cottage, or a summer relaxing.
He notices that sometimes Ilya will startle, just a little bit, if Shane walks into the room when he's laying on the couch, scrolling through his phone. If Shane makes even the slightest request, Ilya is jumping to get it done there and then. He's the first one at practice and the last one to leave.
He will take naps with Shane, but he's always up before Shane, working out in the gym, doing their monthly calendar, adding things Shane likes to their shopping list that he wouldn't add, etc.
"Just sit with me," Shane catches Ilya's arm on his latest trip to the kitchen."
"I know, I will," Ilya covers his hand. "I just want to wipe down counters before your parents get here."
"They won't care," Shane scrunches up his face. "They won't even notice. Come sit down."
"Okay," Ilya says, but looks a little torn. "We are suppose to be hosting, not lazing around."
"Ilya," Shane sat up more. "You cleaned the whole house like twice today. I cooked. We aren't lazing around."
"Yes, I know, but..."
"Ilya, you aren't lazy," Shane said directly. He doesn't know exactly why that word seems difficult for Ilya, but he has his suspicions. "And even if you were lazy sometimes, I wouldn't care. I would like it, probably."
Ilya softened. "I know. I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry," Shane tugs him and Ilya finally lets himself be pulled into Shane's lap. "Just come be lazy with me."
"Hm," Ilya adjusts himself to better snuggle into his boyfriend. "That does not sound so bad."
hi it’s truth & reconciliation day in canada & if you’d like to learn more about the land you live on, native-land.ca is a great resource
Native Land is a resource to learn more about Indigenous territories, languages, lands, and ways of life. We welcome you to our site.
I did a quick search of each of the arenas that the PWHL play in to find the territory they are on.
If you’re from that area or have more/better info and you want to add on, please do!

this list is incomplete, as territories are not static, but I thought it was interesting to see the huge range of nations that belong to the land we love hockey on.
Truth & Reconciliation day is meant to bring attention to the Canadian governments murder and child theft of indigenous people, the residential school system, and other violences. I encourage you to learn about it generally, and seek out resources specific to your area.
PWHL Vancouver will play on the traditional and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-waututh) nations!
There's a welcome pole in front of the Coliseum by a Tsleil-waututh carver, Zac George
PWHL Seattle will play on the lands of the Coast Salish people's, specifically the dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish), who are currently fighting to gain federal recognition!
Folks who live in Seattle and surrounding areas can give to Real Rent Duwamish to support their efforts for federal recognition, as well as other programs supporting habitat restoration and social services.
Reblogging in the hopes that someone has more info on the expansion locations!
The reason Shane and Ilya play so fucking brilliantly together once they’re both on the Ottawa line is not because they’re in love - being in love with your husband doesn’t necessarily tell you what he’s going to do next on the ice - but because they’ve each spent close to the 10,000-hours-it-takes-to-be-an-expert watching tape of the other playing hockey. presumably as a sex thing. life is so beautiful.
we seriously need to make ilya rozanov pregnant so shane can evolve into his final form of really nervous husband who keeps bringing home random supplements and almost passes out in the hospital and sympathy cries when ilya keeps throwing up because ilya is his baby and he’s having his baby. Also i think ilya would love pregnant sex. And Also i personally love little babies
Remember when joining fandom as a younger person meant lurking for a bit and figuring out the vibe and etiquette instead of coming in on day one and calling people weirdos for liking weirdo shit in the weirdo factory.
just a reminder that to keep a fandom alive you need to support your fandom creators, whether it's writers, artists, gif makers, editors or update accounts. fandom is a community, not a commodity and most of the time people do not create just for themselves or for the sake of it. your feedback, your comments, your tags and most of all your REBLOGS will take you 3 seconds but will make a difference to someone. this is not the place to be stingy towards your creators. show your appreciation, don't take people's time, efforts and work for granted and most of all click!! on!! that!! damn!! reblog!! button!! ffs!!
"if you ship zukka where's suki" dont worry i worked out a completely flawless solution
There is a photo deep in the Centaurs media reel archives from a community day thing where baby Shane (7) is running away from Chuck the Beaver and being “protected” by the then-Captain of the Centaurs.
Harris finds it while combing through the archives for fun comparisons to the current team.
Instantly posts it with a picture of Ilya pulling Shane away from a fight single handed, and with the photo from Shane and Scott’s post-game fight when he was a Metro.
“It only takes one Ottawa Centaur to keep national treasure Shane Hollander safe. How many Metros does it take to stop gay on gay crime???”
ATLA Martial Arts: Ty Lee’s Fighting Style
Another long-scroll post ahead!
As always, I just want to say that I know very little about the technical aspects of most martial arts so take these analyses with a grain of salt. These are just surface-level comparisons I’m making based off what I’ve researched on the internet. If you practice any of these martial arts, feel free to elaborate or correct me on any details.
Watching compilations of Ty Lee’s fight scenes, it seems that her style varies depending on the opponent.
White Crane Fist
Generally, if she’s confident that she has the upper-hand, she appears to use White Crane Fist (白鶴拳). This is most apparent during her 2-against-1 fight with Katara and every fight she has with Sokka.
The most obvious indication that Ty Lee is using White Crane Fist would be the “beak hands” or gōu shǒu (钩手) she often employs when fighting. As you might have guessed, White Crane Fist seeks to imitate the movements of a crane, particularly its sharp pecks.
However, when her opponent is at a distance from her, she’ll extend her reach by using “sword fingers” instead of “beak hands”. Sword fingers are used for lightning generation and Azula often uses them for firebending as well, so it’s might have been a technique that Ty Lee picked up from the Fire Princess.
According to this website, Crane Fist emphasizes circular movements, grace, and subtlety. The style also requires strong balance, reach, agility, and speed over brute force— all qualities of Ty Lee. Finally, Crane Fist frequently targets the tender spots of the body, hence why Ty Lee often aims for the rib cage or armpits when she fights. It also explains why Ty Lee was not prepared when Sokka countered one of her strikes with his exceptionally hard head. All in all, never challenge Ty Lee to a tickle fight.
According to oral tradition, White Crane Fist was invented by a woman named Fang Qiniang (方七娘), who combined her training in Shaolin Kung Fu with the movements of the white crane to create a new martial art. This makes the style especially appropriate for Ty Lee, as Shaolin is also the fighting style of the Fire Nation. Plus, Ty Lee is a very girlish character so it fits her personality to use a style invented by a woman.
Phoenix Eye Fist
When Ty Lee is disadvantaged in a fight, usually when facing armored opponents, she switches to Phoenix Eye Fist (凤眼拳).
Depending on the source, Phoenix Eye Fist is either a separate style descended from White Crane or simply techniques within White Crane. Either way, the two styles are very similar. The most obvious difference between White Crane and Phoenix Eye are the ways the hands are held: Crane uses a “beak hand”, while Phoenix Eye uses a one knuckle punch (a fist with the fore-knuckle extended).
The advantage of the Phoenix Eye Fist is that it focuses all of your power into a single hard point, giving each blow greater strength and impact. As a result, Phoenix Eye Fist techniques often focus on strikes to the spine, in addition to the usual “soft spots” (throat, groin, etc.) targeted in White Crane.
While I’ve never practiced either style, Phoenix Eye seems a bit more vicious than White Crane, considering all the spinal attacks. It makes sense that Ty Lee usually only uses this technique when her opponent’s back is covered in armor. Nonetheless, digging your knuckle into people’s spines with all the force of a punch is really brutal. Ty Lee is easily the scariest non-bender in Avatar.
If you’d like to see a real-life demonstration of White Crane Fist and Phoenix Eye Fist, click here.
Additional Thoughts
1. Maybe Ty Lee’s gravity defying leaps are meant to emphasize her bird-like fighting style? Also, Ty Lee’s use of circular movements and tendency to get behind people in a fight does add credence to the “Ty Lee has Air Nomad ancestry” fan theory.
2. She also uses Phoenix Eye Fist hands when she fights a non-armored Suki at the Boiling Rock, though she never lands her signature spine jabs. I wonder if Ty Lee’s use of a more brutal style means that Suki was just that much of a threat or if she was fighting that way to appease Azula, who would not approve of her showing mercy during a fight.
Her variety of styles is also another indication that Ty Lee was never a very villainous antagonist, as she only ever uses as much force as necessary to take down an opponent. Jeong Jeong would very much approve of her self control.
Like what I’m doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^

Shane walks into the kitchen one day to find Ilya crying in front of a pot of stew. At first Ilya tries to dry his eyes and tell Shane he's fine. But when Shane pushes a bit more, he admits that he's trying to make a dish he remembers from his childhood, but he can't get it to taste like it used to. And it's not like he's ever going to be able to get the recipe from his mom, so he's just having a bit of a crisis about it. And Shane just holds him while Ilya cries it out and apologises for crying, but all the while Shane is plotting.
Shane starts collecting recipes - as many versions of the same recipe as he can. The next time Ilya goes out for a brand deal or press thing, and Shane's alone at home for the day, he takes the opportunity to meticulously print out cards with the recipes on them so he can keep track, borrows every pot and pan he can from his parents, the neighbours, his teammates, whoever, and starts making all the different recipes, labelling them as he goes.
That evening when Ilya gets home to the overwhelming smell of cooking and sees Shane surrounded by what looks like every pot in Ottawa, he first thinks Shane's had a bit of a mental breakdown. But then he sees the recipe cards and realises what Shane's been making.
"I know we might not find the exact same one, but I thought if we tried a bunch of different ones, you could at least find the one that's the closest."
It's so Shane. Who else would think to make what feels like a hundred pots of the same stew in one day in the hopes that just one of them would help give Ilya a little taste of home?
And Ilya falls in love with his beautiful, thoughtful, wonderful husband all over again.
I try not to be one of those "well I ALWAYS KNEW the vibes were off and I Sniffed Them Out!!" People because that's annoying
But I am getting a bit of sick satisfaction of seeing fics that I dnf-ed for weird vibes on that list
actually i will reblog this twice because being in the fandom for less than 7 months has inflated my ego to truly ludicrous degrees as a pretentious prose-heavy writer. all those times i dropped a "well-written" fic because i found its writing janky, rhythmless, stilted, etc.? validated to hell and back. if (writer's) vanity is a sin it is one i fear i shall never recover from.
and to be clear, there's a distinct difference to me between prose with poor(er) syntax, grammar, punctuation, and all that pizzazz because it was crafted by an ESL writer; namely, their sense prosaic flexibility is stilted because they are used to operating under different syntax, grammar, punctuation, if that makes sense? admittedly this may be more obvious to me as someone raised around multiple languages even as my lack of fluency in them was arguably encouraged -- spend enough time around foreign shapes and sounds and you start to pick up the patterns through their sentiments. also i was in multiple danmei fandoms and girl icl most ESL speakers can half-ass metaphors much better than these llms can so some of ya'll might be cripplingly lazy lmao

ILYA ROZANOV WEEK: DAY FOUR FAVORITE TRAIT ↪ HIS EMPATHY AND KINDNESS 🥺💕
“When our childhood homes are chaotic and dangerous, we learn that the way to stay safe is to always be on alert — hypervigilant. Our nervous system never calms down because it’s constantly on the lookout for the next bomb that is going to explode [...] As the show goes on, we will learn that underneath Ilya’s extremely hard shell is the heart of a squishy teddy bear wrapped in a warm blanket, but it takes YEARS for Shane to see it. When we look at Ilya through the lens of what he learned as he grew up, it makes sense why he behaves the way he does. We can even have empathy for the level of hypervigilance and fear he lives with. I like to lay things out this way because it’s usually a hell of a lot harder to give ourselves that same grace. We have an idea of who we “should” be in our heads, and when we don’t live up to that we assume it’s because we’re a failure, a useless waste of space. None of that is true: we are behaving in ways that make complete sense when we understand how our nervous system was trained to respond to our environment.” — Reading Ilya Rozanov through the lens of trauma.
My small already poverty stricken hometown is about to get destroyed by the AI data center they’re building there so yeah you could say I think people who use AI to write fucking fanfiction of all things should get their heads out of their asses
