It always feels weird to me, morning someone i never knew. But for Lance Reddick… i mean, of course i’m mourning his death.
Since Destiny 1 Year 1, i’ve been a diehard titan main. I remember taking so long in character creation, just because i was carefully evaluating the blurbs of each subclass to see which one resonated most with me. I remember getting back to the tower, and being in awe of this powerful sounding man, who taught me who the titans really were
Lance Reddick was an incredibly talented voice actor, and truly brought his characters to life. He was given a role of an authority figure with Commander Zavala, and made someone that, whenever you heard his voice, you could feel safe because he was there and guiding you. No matter how dark things got in the world, it was his voice urging us to never give up hope. He was our vanguard commander. Our space dad.
It takes someone truly incredible to take a character like Zavala, and pull him off in a way that makes him seem so powerful, yet so gentle.
But he didn’t stop there, of course. Lance Reddick went above and beyond just his basic role as a voice actor, and would often engage with the community, having fun with us, giving us words of encouragement, and just overall being a blast. He was an excellent fit in our community.
I’ll miss you commander. Rest well <3
I’m reminiscing a lot, so if anyone wants to reminisce with me, here are some videos I found that he made for the community over the years, along with some interviews too
A message to the titans in regards to the Guardian Games
Zavala hyping us up while dragging Caital
Lance Reddick being interviewed about d2, and his role as Zavala
Feel free to add on to this list if you want. I think today would be a good day to celebrate what a cool guy he was.
"mental illnesses can increase the chance of being toxic to oneself and others"
and
"no mental illness makes you inherently abusive"
and
"mental illness is an explanation, not an excuse for toxic behaviours"
are statements that can inductively coexist.
sorry
How I imagine the 1st day of the event went
Reblogs are read and appreciated <3

Noone wants to be Hunter Vanguard
i dont think cayde would resent crow actually . i think he would be sympathetic towards him . mayhaps even see himself in him a little
I dont know if die hard cayde stans hate crow because he used to be uldren like is that a thing. i don't go into maintags. but if they do i don't care. I think if cayde could see crow and what he's become he'd look back on his own arrogance and anger and he'd forgive him. he'd know that it wasn't entirely uldren's fault that he died. It was a lot of riven's and a lot of his own. And he'd know that even if he was angry, that crow is fighting for something good now, and that he's someone else, and that he's young and has a lot to learn in terms of being a guardian . yknow
No exactly. It would eat him alive to know he indirectly caused that. We're the only people allowed to have thoughts about cayde i think
Between Stolen Stars page 6. I WAS SO AFRAID ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE AND THEN. They're having friendly matches with Eliksni. Screaming. Last line sent me to eeby deeby.
Just saw someone on Twitter say "Lightfall needs to be our Empire Strikes Back moment, Guardians need a loss" and while I get what they're saying, at the same time my only reaction is
typical fireteam activity
Warrior of Light, you mean like a Guardian of the Traveler Hydaelyn is what's inside the Traveler
This deserves its own post.
Cayde coming back would serve no narrative purpose.
Zip. Nada. Nothing.
Stop begging Bungie for him back, stop telling everyone he's coming back.
Nathan Fillion doesn't want to reprise his role. Bungie cannot pay for him.
There is nothing that is added by bringing him back, I'm sorry. Characters die sometimes. It happens. But yall need to accept that.
Bringing him back would just be fan service, and would undo everything that was established and built upon in Forsaken.
Let him go. His role is done. If you need another funny man Drifter is right there.
He was my favorite to, but he's dead and fans constantly clamoring to undo story and narrative in favor of funny robot man really makes it hard to think fondly of him.
My guy, you can't remember why he was important??? You can't think of why The Current Leader of the Cabal might be haunted by him?
You can't think why getting to address the Trauma of the Red War might be narratively satisfying???????
The fact that you haven't played "much" since they took your preciously Cayde away really shows man. You don't care about the story. You care about your funny man.
Yea, Cayde returning to life would make all of those storybeats meaningless. And all the ones that come after. If all the fans need to do is cry about a character dying and Bungie brings them back then all sense of tension is fucking gone.
Sometimes, character that are important die, characters we care about. And that is fine, its good even. Important for the overall narrative.
To bring them back because it made people too sad and people like you can't let go of him is a flimsy resolve
And you can't even bring up Saint or Crow, both of them were brought into the narrative by means that Cayde cannot work into.
Saint had to be pulled from another timeline, the Saint from our timeline is still dead and the one we have now was pulled right before he would of died. The means and methods of this likely won't work again given Saint died in Vex territory, surrounded by Vex, and his boyfriend is an expert in the Vex. Look at how long it took Osiris to bring Saint back, and he didn't even get his Saint back. He had to steal him from another timeline.
Ul'dren is dead, he never came back. Crow is someone else, someone new entirely. Its Ul'dren's body but a new guardian awoke and he is dealing with the consequences of the Traveler washing him clean and yet keeping the face of one of the most hated men in The Last City. Which is why Crow's Nightmare this season is Ul'dren.
Neither of these situations apply to Cayde. The way he died was perma-death. We've never had a Guardian come back from True Death. And we likely never will!
If you aren't willing to understand or even engage with how storytelling and narrative work and only want Destiny to service your wish for Cayde content then AO3 is right there. There's plenty of "Cayde Lives" AU fic, hell you can write your own!
@screaming-for-eternally
YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HE'D DO!
YOU ADMIT IT, THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO TO ADD TO THE STORY
YOU JUST FUCKING WANT CAYDE BACK! AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM MAN, THERE'S NOTHING CAYDE CAN ADD.
SO STOP TELLING US HE NEEDS TO COME BACK, EVEN IN YOUR ADMISSION YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HE COULD DO OR WHAT HE WOULD EVEN ADD
You got your "one last ride" my man. It was the intro to Forsaken. You need to settle for that. Cause that's all you're getting.
Go read some fanfic on AO3, go write some. Because I can fucking guarantee that whatever the writers put out for Cayde if they bring him up in-game will do nothing but piss you off. Regardless it doesn't even matter because you, yourself, have said that you don't even play "much" since they vaulted Forsaken. So why do you care about what happens in Season of the Haunted?
Make your own fucking catharsis if what has been offered isn't enough. But we got our "one last ride", it was the intro to Forsaken.

I've seen talk about what's the final Nightmare and people have been saying more times than I can count that it's going to be Cayde.
And I'm baffled. Have you seen the literal first intro cutscene into the season proper? The one where Caiatl refuses Eris' help but then we see Caiatl being haunted by the Nightmare of Ghaul?
And have you also played the game at all this week and heard Ghaul taunting us in post-Containtment voice lines? For example this one and this one and this one and--
I'm totally cool with people having their own HCs and AUs, but so many people have legitimately started throwing around guesses and thinking how it might be Cayde that I'm just wondering if there's any engagement of braincells at any point? Like, we're not talking obscure lore, this is first setup cutscene and in-game voice lines during the main seasonal activity.
This is your Cayde Nightmare content. That's it. Please for the love of everything, move on.
I also really need people to realize to get Cayde back as a Nightmare Bungie would of had to get his fucking voice actor back and given who that was? Not fucking likely
Please, let the fuck go of Cayde. Its been years. I miss him too, but the best thing Cayde ever did for the story was die and some of yall really really need to accept that.
@screaming-for-eternally
I am begging you to let this go. Just looking at your blog and the attachment you have to Cayde rivals that fictionkin.
It doesn't matter if you agree or not for why Bungie got rid of Cayde or if his death was even handled well. He's gone man. Let him go.
Killing off a character because his expensive voice actor doesn't want to be a part of the project anymore and won't come back isn't that uncommon. I need you to understand that.
He had an entire expansion dedicated to his death and the consequences thereof. We got to relive it when Crow was introduced.
On a out of universe level Cayde isn't coming back because his VA has no want nor wish to return. He's done with Destiny, and Bungie wouldn't have the money to ask for him back.
On a in universe level? His ghost is dead, and we've never seen a Guardian come back to life after that. Saint was a very specific situation. One that likely cannot be repeated cause you know the vanguard would of done it.
Bringing Cayde back does not service the story in anyway. I will not make assumptions as to why you, specifically, want him back. However bringing him back will not serve any purpose other than to please fans like you. Nothing.
Let him go
