"what do you mean i have to get out of the pool?” daysia shouted up to the lifeguard on duty. it was no secret that she was blind as a bat. “it thundered once,” so blind, that the woman couldn’t even make out that the lifeguard was mavi. “bold of you to assume i don’t have a death wish,” she put her hands on the side of the pool and pushed herself out, just sitting on the edge of it, legs crossed with her elbows resting on her knees, her chin in her hands. “so, how long do i have to sit here before i can get back in? i was rather enjoying floating on that giant dragon floatie.” @maverickwhiting​

“Love the idea,” Dawson began to assure her that he wasn’t turning down the idea. “But there is a possibility that double D may already be trademarked by the popularized, nineties cartoon Ed, Edd, and Eddy. I don’t think double D, being a erratic, whiney character he is would support everything that my podcast is about. He is very matter-a-fact, too boomer to understand a conspiracy theory in my opinion.” He explained before walking over to the fridge. He pulled out an iced tea and began to sip it from the cracked bottle. Their fridge had become a stockpile of sugary drinks since Daysia had gotten sober. Though it wasn’t a good coping mechanism to replace one addiction with another, it was what they did to stay afloat in the face of bad days. Sugar drinks and emergency cookie dough for snacking a possible and in the consequence of energy, baking. “But on the off chance cartoon network will not come for our necks to capitalize on our small, independent business I fear that the title mad be a bit clickbait-esque. We also need to consider another demographic: the oncologists. The breast specialists. What if they’re just searching the web for a podcast, come across ours and are overjoyed by out boob-influenced name just to be disappointed by our misleading title?” Dawson countered with a raised brow.  This is how most of their conversations went considering how argumentative Dee tended to be. As Daysia revealed her amazon purchase, he began to slowly clap. “Do you know you’re a genius? A milled kief dispenser that is an alien? Iconic. All we need is a honey pot filled with dabs.” Dawson began to exit the kitchen before turning back to say, “Speaking of which, wanna smoke and watch Beavis and Butthead? I’ll roll.”

a tiny frown tugged at her lips. "i know this is probably going to sound like the most out of character statement i'll ever make, but i really didn't watch ed, edd, and eddy. somethin' about that wooden board with a face. that's in that show, right? gave me the creeps. i was more of a powerpuff girls kid. my mom had to ban it from the tv though because i went around kicking strangers. i think this is very telling of my character today, though." daysia followed dawson's lead and grabbed a dr. pepper from the fridge. soda had definitely become a regular part of her day. soda and coffee made up her daily drinks. she kept glass bottles of coke and other soft drinks in the fridge for bad days. the glass bottles made her feel like she was drinking whiskey again. it never fully did the trick, but it definitely felt more comfortable in her hand. "while i do feel like that title is deceptive, i feel like we need to take into consideration how much clickbait is used in social media nowadays. but you're right, we shouldn't conform. i will do my best to come up with a better title and consult you later," daysia gave him finger guns before tipping her drink back. "they make honey pot cookie jars. we could literally do this. just get like... a baby spoon or something toput with it and scoop it onto the rig whenever we want. smart shopping, too... buying in bulk," she couldn't hide the grin that crossed her face at her own joke. "uh, yes. absolutely. i would love nothing more. honestly, i'm feelin' kind of rough today so maybe that's what i need."

work meant that nate barely paid attention to the customers outside of their drink order. Since his manager had so gracefully given him his job back, nate wanted to be a better employee than he was before. So he just nodded and made the drink in under a minute and place it on top of the counter that divided them. He walked away for a minute but then stopped dead in his tracks as he realized who he had just served. He turned back around, hoping she hadn’t disappeared on him “daysia collins, is that you?” he called, smiling widely and placing his elbows on the counter in front of him. “what on earth are you doing ordering a shirley temple?” for a moment, it was like old times. Nate could easily pretend that he had never even left.

she’d started sipping on her drink, slightly offended by nate’s brush off. had it been on purpose? her eyebrows knitted together in confusion, but all of it melted away as he turned back around. if he wasn’t on the clock, daysia would’ve practically tackled him. “don’t take my calm demeanor as a sign of indifference. you’re working and i can’t jump over the bar even though i’d love to,” daysia reached out for his hand and gave it a gentle, yet tight squeeze. “i really didn’t expect you to be here, but i certainly hoped you were. boss man let you back in, i see,” she pulled her and back and placed both of them on the bar, face down with a bit of force. “regrettably sober, babe,” she quipped, pulling her tiny vape from her lanyard and inhaling deeply. as she exhaled, she commented. “except for weed. if i couldn’t smoke, i’d be dead. especially here. why did we come back again?”

It was entirely Oscar’s fault that his relationships with everyone he’d left in PH before he left turned awkward in the time away. Especially since he really hadn’t made any attempts to reach out on his own in the time he’d been back in town. Now as he walked from his place to Daysia’s, the moon lighting his way, he almost regretted his attitude adjustment for creating the weirdness. He knocked on her front door, silently hoping that his distance didn’t catch her attention. It opened, and before she could say anything he nodded in her direction and teased “Hey neighbor. Got a cup of sugar I can borrow?”

if there was one thing daysia was learning, it was that sobriety in peach hollow was absolute agony. the place she once called home felt like uncharted territory. walking through the hollow brought so many memories back -- good and bad, but the good memories were starting to feel as tainted as the bad ones. mac, dom, nate, oscar, and mavi had left within the span of a month, and it took all of daysia’s energy just to survive. the loneliness she’d felt had been an emotion she never wished to feel again, yet here she was, permanently lonely. there was only so much she could burden dawson with.

the knock on the door startled her from her blank stare at bob’s burgers. it had come somewhat of a comfort show. she climbed off the couch clad in plaid pajama shorts and a long tank top, then shuffled to the front door. daysia peeked out of the hole in the door, and the sight of oscar made her chest swell with hope. she unlocked and opened the door, and before he could even get the joke to leave his lips, she was jumping into his arms and holding tightly. “fuck, oz. i missed -- i miss you so much,” she whispered into his shoulder. “don’t leave. please don’t leave.”

Cardboard had been piling up in their Blueberry Boulevard’s home recycling bin for weeks. Broken down boxes had consumed the barrels, making the house an eye-rolling sight for the bypassing garbage men. Dawson had just finished the breaking up the last lingering box when he said aloud, “That’s the last one. We’re officially moved in.” He sighed as he tossed the flat cardboard on the counter, not bothering to carry it outside but instead leaning against the kitchen counter to look at Daysia. “I know I was skeptical about the third bedroom at first but having a podcasting, weed studio that we can fondly refer to as The Green Room is not only a luxury but a necessity.” Dawson ran his fingers through his mess of curls, a smile running across his lips as he looked around. “We did pretty good. The only qualm I have is that I wish we got the alien salt and pepper shakers instead of the owls. They have sophisticated bowties but we simply did not pay enough homage to extraterrestrials in our living space and for that I’ll never forgive myself.”

when daysia met dawson, she felt like she’d met someone who wouldn’t judge her, someone who was similar to her without all the baggage -- at least, without all the public baggage. it had definitely surprised her when he responded to her ad for a roommate posted on the bulletin boards of most of the shops around town. she was skeptical about letting a boy move in, especially after just being a neighbor to two had lead to a lot of heartache that she didn’t want to think about, but he convinced her pretty quickly. it was dawson’s vibe. he didn’t seem threatening, nor did he seem like he wanted to pursue her, both traits she was looking for in a roommate. “i had a thought,” she mused. daysia hopped onto the kitchen counter, kicking her legs back and forth. “if you ever wanted me in on that podcast -- we could be called double d,” she quipped with a quick laugh. “i mean, think about it. think how you could stretch across several different demographics -- one, which i’m sure you’re not struggling to reach, women. now, i’m a bruh girl according to tiktok. i can bring you all your women loving women audience members, and i guess men too. they don’t always deserve rights, though,” the feminist in her had kicked it up a notch in the past few years. daysia grabbed her phone from the counter and started scrolling the moment dawson mentioned the alien shakers. it took her less than a minute to order them off of amazon. “picture this -- blueberry boulevard, 2020,” she put her phone down and put her hands in the air. “i ordered the aliens and we will be putting ground up weed into them and sprinkling it into every piece we use.”

the bar? it wasn’t her favorite place. in fact, she hadn’t stepped into one in a little over a year. it used to be her only solace because her mother couldn’t control what she had there. being in michigan under a microscope took her vices away. now, alone in peach hollow, she could do whatever she wanted to -- and right now, she wanted to see nate. that’s all she’d wanted since she and dawson moved into their house, but it took a while for her to get up the nerve to walk into the bar. daysia climbed up on a stool, spotting that familiar face immediately. she grinned, climbing onto a stool and watching the male work for a moment or two. “hey, ‘scuse me,” she chirped, the grin never leaving her features. “could i get a shirley temple? that’s just like.. sprite and grenadine, right? ‘cause i need a virgin drink.” @hellstonefms​

daysia jade, day, dj, deej – anything goes. she’s 23 and will turn her head to just about anything. she’s a spring baby born march, 1996.

her childhood was pretty good. she and her brother grew up a year apart, and her parents divorced early. early enough that daysia can barely remember a time where the family was hole, and likes it that way.

however, her father did not take the divorce well and turned to drugs – meth to be specific. he only saw the kids on weekends and even then, daysia and marcus absolutely knew what was happening. perhaps they didn’t know his choice of poison, but they knew that it was just that: poison.

he was never abusive and always took care of the kids, even if he was tweaking out of his mind. there were a few instances that were touch and go, like when he forgot to take dinner out of the oven and it caught fire, or when he forgot to change the sheets – little things that added up.

when daysia was 16 and marcus was 15, they were involved in a car accident. her dad was high behind the wheel, lost control of the car, and they hit the guard rail. they went over an embankment and down a short hill before the vehicle came to a complete stop, flipped over. she watched the life drain from her brother’s face, and never got into a car again.

a good deal of resentment built up for her father, but she remained stoic, even when he went to prison for drug charges and the dui he’d racked up that ultimately killed her brother. she didn’t let anyone know that she was hurting, because she numbed it all. she threw herself into her school work and her artwork, painting constantly. melting colors together somehow helped her cope. she could get her emotions out on paper. in fact, that still rings true today. in her bedroom of the apartment she lives in, she has covered one of the walls in canvas and paints over and over.

in an effort to start life over, daysia left detroit when she graduated high school. she transferred to peach hollow where she went to winchester university, not wanting a lot of attention. this is where she really came to life.

daysia was able to push michigan to the back of her mind entirely, because peach hollow had so much to offer. the people were better. the music was better. the parties were better. the education was better. there wasn’t a single thing she missed from home aside from her mother, who she kept in regular contact with and still does. they’re always texting and facetime before bed every night.

she came alive. college changed her. she was studying a subject that interested her and meeting people who didn’t have to know about her past. she did, and does everything to keep michigan her dirty little secret. she liked the party scene, but only drank or smoked weed. she refuses to touch anything that might turn her into her father. she was even hired on as a crisis counselor for a local hotline, contractual to her graduation.

in the past month, daysia has plummeted, however. nobody would ever be able to tell. she is the queen of poker face, an absolute delight to be around. she can be a little aloof, and is constantly stoned, but it’s how she gets through the day. she is an absolute goof, loves to crack jokes and make people laugh. she loves to laugh herself. these are all traits that show and cover the inner turmoil constantly trying to bubble to the surface.

daysia received word that her father passed away in jail. he overdosed, and she wasn’t sure how to feel. so she didn’t. she did, however, stop doing school work and started drinking more. she flunked out of school and lost her job.

at the same time, she got into her first serious relationship. day fell hard and fast for her best friend, mac. their relationship started out much like a fairy tale. she wanted to keep it like that forever, but her addiction and ptsd took over. she tried her very hardest to hold onto mac, but he moved back to nyc with their best friend, dom, in tow. she still misses them to this day and finds it hard to keep friends like she kept them close. the littlest things will remind her of mac and she’ll start to spiral. two years later and she’s still hung up, but she’ll deny it to the very end.

it’s safe to say that when this happened, daysia crumbled. she realized just how many people she’d lost and how many she had -- and she didn’t have anyone at that point, or so she thought. she continued to isolate and stopped answering her phone, and within the week, her mother was there to drag her home to detroit for detox. 

she spent the next few weeks laying in the bathroom, going through withdrawal from alcohol and the various benzos she’d started eating like candy. things were bad. her mother never left her side, and after many na and aa meetings, after snatching pill bottles and miniatures out of her room for months, daysia cleaned up her act. she put on a healthy amount of weight, started working out, went to aa or na two or three times a day until she was comfortable enough to skirt by a day or two without one. she finished up her degree that summer and started waiting tables. she saved up every cent, finally having enough money and credit built up to buy a house where she really wanted to be: peach hollow.

after talking to her old boss, they agreed to take her back on as a crisis counselor when she moved back

so the newly clean and sober (aside from weed lol) daysia is living in a house on blueberry boulevard with @dawsonsawyer​

as for her personality and relationships, daysia excels. she is nurturing, so when a friend, or even a stranger is hurting, she tends to go to their side and comfort them. as long as she can make them laugh, then everything will be okay. she makes friends pretty easily, and keeps them for the most part. she is fiercely loyal and will absolutely scrap to defend her loved ones.

she loves love. there is no gender she isn’t curious about and absolutely loves romance, though she also tries to hide that. her walls are ten feet tall. she’s in to hook ups, flings, and polyamory. she’s very open in that sense!!

FUN FACTS

she has an english bull dog named frank!! he is her pride and joy. she dresses him up in outfits, has regular photo shoots with him and loves going to the dog park. he isn’t legally an emotional support animal, but that’s definitely what he is to her. if he doesn’t like you, she won’t either tbh

she has this lil purple pen looking thing that is always on her. it’s her weed vape and she will hit it anywhere. her dumb head is always in the mfing clouds

she has a spotify family plan that is currently only her, mac, and dom and she will absolutely invite anyone she meets bc spotify premium is something everyone should enjoy

wears a lot of graphic tees and jeans, kinda a tom boy. doesn’t love dressing up but will occasionally. also doesn’t rly like make up but DOES know how to beat her face

1000% unable to be alone for like any period of time?? like if she gets off work and no one is in her apartment she just leaves. she goes next door to mac, goes to the peach pit, anywhere she can socialize. being left to her own thoughts will always turn out poorly.

really loves poetry. cannot write it to save her life, but loves going to slam readings or checking out poetry books from the library. her adhd brain can’t handle novels – poetry is just the right length to keep her attention and dig into her soul.

ex-roommate: something happened between daysia and this person, whether it was a relationship gone wrong, a friendship with tension, or just the other person being a damn slob – and daysia removed them from the house and moved someone new in. they are probably on shitty terms.

current flings: a few people are probably on her list of suitors right now. people she spends time with romantically, but hasn’t committed to. she absolutely cannot be alone, at any point… ever! so, she has someone with her at all times. m/f/nb, all good.

party friends:  this one is pretty self explanatory!! these are friends that daysia may or may not talk to outside of a party, but will always cling to at one.

close friends: she lets very few people all the way in, but those that make it are generally taken care of by day. she makes sure that they are as comfortable with life as possible and spends a lot of time with them

exes: as daysia is a ticking time bomb, there have been many people she’s blown off. whether they once hooked up, were together, or what have you, daysia has a lot of exes. she never means to hurt anyone. it just sort of happens and she has accepted it.
