quick mizu5 rant because I’ve seen one too many shit takes on TikTok and oh my god I’m so pissed. I know that most people have common sense but there are so many people that do not and Its beyond baffling.

No, Mizuki is not a boy. No, she didn’t look into the camera and say “My name is Mizuki Akiyama and I’m a transgender girl”, and she doesn’t need to in order for it to be clear. She is not a cross dresser, she is trans.

“But the classmates were calling her a boy!1!!!1!” They’re transphobic bullies. Look at the surrounding context, for once in your life. They said that they thought Ena was a ”normal girl” when they found out that she and Mizuki are friends. It’s exceedingly obvious once you get your heads out of your fucking “the curtain is just blue” transphobic asses.

A boy wouldn’t react like that to someone saying that they’re a boy. Do you know who would, especially in this context and the surrounding lore of the entire game? A trans girl— Mizuki.

The game makes it so obvious what’s going on. You shouldn’t need to have your hand held to understand what’s going on. If you know literally anything about Mizuki’s character, and if you know how to read, her transness is so clear. It’s right there in bright neon fucking pink.

I love Mizu5 and it emotionally devastated me but can we PLEASE talk about Mizuki’s dress

it’s so well made and AUGH it hurts. the way it looks like it’s been ripped, making her vulnerable and showing something so raw but so vibrant underneath. and the rip doesn’t look intentional; obviously, it looks like someone was grabbing at her to either make them stay or to try and expose her for “what she really is”. it could also be said that it looks unfinished, just like she never got to finish telling Ena about her secret.

I think it’s a bit of both, personally. especially paired with how the rest of the cards look and how they all have something of Mizuki’s. Ena has a bright pink ribbon for Mizuki (and the card looks like Mizuki’s trained Uncompromising Obsession card, and with the way that Ena is looking at the puddle and touching it longingly? I’m going to explode), KAITO has a ribbon from Mizuki’s dress, same as Mafuyu, but Mafuyu’s is a pale pink and she has a rose in her umbrella that she’s looking at with a sort of detached sadness (note how Ena and KAITO have rose petals too, there’s something there that I don’t have the mental energy to work out). Kanade has a bow that (and and from what I can see on twt, other people think this too) like the one on Mizuki’s Feelings That I've Come to Realize dress.

Back to Mizuki’s card though— there’s so much detail in it that makes me go a little insane. Like the broken mirror in the back. Excuse my dramatics, but it breaks my heart to see that her mirror is broken like that. Don’t have too much more to say on that besides YEEEOUCH

Going back to the connection between this card and the Feelings That I've Come to Realize card, I’m pretty sure it’s the same room? It looks like that to me, but I don’t know if I’m just fully loosing it at this point gonna be honest. Again; don’t have too much more to say on that other than I think it’s neat. maybe I’m just reading into things too much, but I’ll still put both side by side to show what I’m talking about because I swear this means something that I don’t have enough braincells at the moment to put into words

Unrelated to the cards: I also love how Mizuki feels set apart from everyone, even in the song, they don’t sound like they fit with the rest of the group, and it’s so heart breaking especially with how she’s not going to be in the real world in the game until this gets resolved [probably] (hopefully in ena5 or I’m gonna lose it /hj)

and another thing —I think colorpale really did a good job of portraying the absolutely paralyzing fear of coming out and the horror of being outed, and the ena’s and Mizuki’s VAs performance was SO GOOD, especially at the last chapter. there’s a reason why Mizuki’s va said she was crying

anyways sorry for the incoherent ramble I stayed up all night for this after a long and frustrating week at work, but the TLDR is that this event was so good and all of the detail is amazing AND this is definitely one of my favorite events ever

I wonder if the cards are going to visually reflect Mizu5, since the image banner (??) for the event already looks very similar to Mizu5– The warm colors, the lighting, all of it.

I think it’s cool how the light source is on opposite sides though, sunrise (hope, the promise of a new start) versus a sunset (the end of a phase in life in this case— the end of Mizuki’s secret being a secret). Now do I think it’s an actual sunrise? Probably not, but visually it kind of looks like that. Also just the fact that the lightning isn’t as harsh pulls at my heart strings, it feels so much warmer and comforting

and if you look at the logos— the butterfly (representing Mizuki) is coming back to the rest of them. Just. AUGH, I can and will cry while looking at the event translations when they start coming out

not to be the guy that’s only talking about mizu5, but I think the impact of it is so interesting. obviously it’s going to have the impact of handling a trans character’s story really well —something that is so important as we continue to progress as a society— and I think it’s also a testament to how much these things can blow up. handling a queer character’s story well is going to make a really good impression among audiences (at least, the ones that are progressively becoming louder and louder in the grand scheme of things). I’ve seen this event bringing people into proseka too, which there’s something to be said there

it’s so interesting to me how much this event has spread outside of the immediate and related fandoms for project sekai (think enstars, bang!dream, etc.), onto completely random people’s social media feeds. the amount of tweets I’ve seen from random ass accounts talking about this is kind of fascinating

like this is just some guy. and I’m obsessed with it.

anyways. big game companies or tv studios. make more trans and queer characters that have care and understanding put into their storylines. it will pay off and age incredibly well and bring you more money
