Finally watched Project Hail Mary and I have so many thoughts about this I donāt think I can put them all into words in a way that can truly fit into one post nor can they fit into their own soar are post, Iām just gonna bullet point some thoughts and I guess spoiler it for folks who havenāt watched it yet.
I didnāt really get all the fox symbolism until I saw that chase scene because⦠Ough⦠made me sick to my stomach
Also the fact that this is the most break in emotion we see from Stratt??? If I recall correctly she almost started crying when she was asking him to comply
Strauss is special to me I need to study her
I love how she made everyone clap for Grace all the time, she really did believe in him and that really warmed my heart
Speaking of Stratt- usually I cringe whenever characters sing in movies but she had a really good voice. Kind of fucked up to sing Sign of The Times to a room full of people literally about to sacrifice themselves because the world is literally ending though. I do feel in a way it was her trying to comfort them? Over all interesting song choice, wonderful singing
Expanding more upon that scene, I do wish we got to see more of the OG crew. Itās been a minute since I read the book but if I remember they were a bigger part of the book. I donāt fault anyone for that though, they only had so much time
Ough just remembered the part where he begged Carl for help⦠man :(
I wish they had at least a moment of Grace thinking about his kids, I think it would have been nice if they ended up being his motivation to not give up
I have to say I ADORE how they designed Rocky!!!! They looked amazing! So evocative without a face
The way they characterized them in the movie makes me baffled on how anyone can dilute them into being some sort of space dog
Theyāre genuinely so smart and on top of that.. the scene where he almost died for Grace??) genuinely almost cried. So insanely brave I love them so much. Coolest guy award goes to Rocky
Grace was also such an interesting character. I do think some things with his characterization get lost in translation from the book to movie since we donāt have his internal dialogue. I still found him compelling though, props to Ryan Gosling.
Like the hypocrisy of sending others to die but unwilling to make the sacrifice ā¤ļø canāt say I blame him, I think Iād be too scared as well
Heās a very human hero if that makes sense.
That scene with him and his class was really stomach churning. I canāt imagine being in that situation. I remember times where my teachers ended up having to explain some scary things to the class too and it puts it into perspective how devastating of a situation that is to be put in. You donāt want to scare the kids, you know? Iām barely an adult but even know I cant help but want to bubble wrap kids from the truth of the world.
Again some things fell a little flat for me on his end, but thatās just more of a reason to read the book
I have today this movie was the best Iāve watched all year, it was such a gift to see and Iād 100% rewatch it again and again
Side note I can jUST TELL his teacher ass wanted to tell the committee to raise their hands he genuinely looked ready to scold them but like forced himself to hold back
