The late post for my reading about Crystal City

Well some fairly good progress was made this week, I read the book while on a plane and then in a taxi ride while in other states (better states), possibly the best state in the U.S., Texas. I read a large portion of my book and it was astonishing with the things I had read. 

I thought it was neat the way KiKi has progressed throughout the Book in Crystal City. He has gone from a complete outsider of a caterpillar in this new jungle he is put into and then changes into a social butterfly. This process has been evident, starting off with going their alone and making plenty friends on the way even with stoners. Why can’t I make friends this easily? :( I dont have any friends at all. :(

Real Hustlers don’t sleep, we takin naps- as the real hustler that I am I took one too many naps this week which meant I didn’t have as much time to complete my reading goal but on another note I was told this week “Reading is for rich people” so its pretty evident what that quote has opened my eyes to.

Recently within Killing Time in Crystal City, KiKi the main mamenso had a flashback to him being at home, mainly hanging out with his old best friend Jasper. Everytime there is a flashback from Jasper it is always comical as Jasper literally only d!%*’s(Male body part often referred when someone is insulting someone else) on KiKi (Jasper is the one that also coincidently gave KiKi the name KiKi) just about everything in their everyday lives, such as KiKi and his relationship with his father. There was this one part in the book where KiKi and Jasper were walking down the train tracks and it reminded me of walking on the train tracks ‘in the Good Ole RVA where I was born and raised’ with Tucker Fitzhugh, just walking and hoping we don’t get run over but with no real destination to go.

Killing Time in Crystal(Meth) City

Inside of this novel a young man, KiKi ran away from his father who didn’t seem to put any consideration of KiKi in the choices he made concerning both of their lives. KiKi finally got tired and annoyed with the first mistake- choosing to live with his father and then finally trying to connect with his father. KiKi runs away to his uncles house in Crystal City and learns to live on his own at the same time making new friends trying to make a new beginning.

How might someone else react in a situation with their family? Do you think you would act in a similar manor? Can you block everyone out of your life as easily as KiKi did?

I believe the author is trying to express his childhood within this novel, or at least help answer some questions he could never answer. In a way this novel should spark controversy or conversations concerning the actions someone might make when in a time of discord.

Killing Time in Crystal City

 I haven’t been able to complete my reading goal this week as the great journey project has distracted me. Being behind all the deadlines for the project, I did not have the time to reach the reading goals this week. From this experience, I think that time management is extremely important, not only for this assignment, but also for any other homework in the future. I guess the precedents were right in their sayings, “time is money”. Also, due to my horrific reading comprehension, limited ability to analyze and short-term concentration, I could barely understand the plot or meanings of this reading. In order to fix these problems, I guess the key was keep reading and read extensively.

There was a scene that made fun of the main character “Yo, adorable” to Kiki which he did not find amusing, I thought it was funny how mad this made KiKi but made every other character laugh at him.

Some of the questions would be similar to like “How would you react in a situation like this? Could I possibly live a life on my own with a little support by only my uncle? Wouldn’t I miss my parents too much? I already miss my parents enough while at boarding school, I doubt I would be able to run away and have no contact with them.

I am Dedicating this post to Willis Mackey: Reading Goals <3

Well my 2 hour reading goal per week is 104 pages. I am reading ‘Killing Time In Crystal City by Christ Lynch. Well if I want to have a successful reading career here at CCS in this final marking period I should really stop beating Piwa in Fifa every night and read instead, but everyone knows thats not going to happen. Piwa is way too fun to play. I need to try and read during study hall when I finish my homework for the next day (even though Mr. Pyles says we always have homework to do), I will try and utilize all the bus rides to soccer games to the best extent of my ability to accomplish said goals. I just need to keep choosing books that I can enjoy to read and not get bored with.

Crystal City

I have begun reading Crystal City by Chris Lynch and have made it a full 39 pages. I picked up the book because after reading the back I picked up that there would be a large aspect in the book about searching and making decisions. This is something that I can relate to as I make strides toward deciding where to attend school in the fall.

 This book has made me consider other options though. Kevin, the protagonist, makes a choice to run away to a city he thinks will be home. This is not something that society would generally expect of a young man, but he does it anyway because he is the complete master of his life. It makes me wonder how many options I actually have for next year. I don't think I have ever considered any other options except for college because that is all my family and I discussed when we discussed my future in the past. 

I've never considered backpacking across Europe or going straight into the job market or even just slumming it. I am excited to go to college but this book has opened up my mind to the idea that people can follow their dreams without having to go for higher education and they can end up finding themselves just like people in college are supposed to.

Sweet Awakening to a Cruel Ending

The Perks of Being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

After what might have been 4 months (I don’t really know how long it has taken me to read this book) of stalling to read this book out side of class, I have finally finished this bad boy. Last week was by far my most successful reading week since ‘Nam (Hung gave me permission to say that) This recent week I actually read the book out of class, which I probably shouldn’t admit but I did, only because I was sick of being so close to the end and I didn’t want to have to wait till next week.

In these final pages or letter entries I learnt the importance of getting out of your comfort zone and how this will impact someone in their future. Charlie, the main character in the book starts off being confused, he is new in high school with no friends (unless you count his sister) and does not to much besides school work. One day Charlie decided to introduce himself to a brother and a sister, Sam and Patrick. Sam and Patrick transformed Charlie into a social butterfly not scared to try anything new or meet new people at the end of the book. Some instances were for better or for worse (such as his smoking problem that Sam and Patrick caused him to get). Charlie eventually even after he realized his only friends were leaving he did not seem to worry. The transformation that Charlie went through due to going out of his comfort zone was phenomenal in a positive manner.

What if everyone got out of their comfort zone? What kind of world would we live in?

Whats been going down in the most recent chapters of: the perks of being a wallflower

The reading is not that hard to do the only issue is myself finding time to read it, you all know what i'm saying? Otherwise this book is not complicated to read except that it is not like a regular book with chapters. This book cannot really be comparable to many other books because this book is special in its own way. The way the book is laid out is a series of letters by date which might seem complicated at first but easily comprehensive. I think this is such a perfect book for Maria, I feel with Maria's perspicacious train of thought and for its suspenseful story line. While reading last week I was very curious in wondering if eventually the identity of the person that Charlie writes to every week will be revealed? This person knows allot about Charlie at this point considering Charlie tells him every single detail about either his day or week has been going.
