i was gonna send an ask but i couldn't squeeze it into the character limit
finally watched last weeks super, gotta say i’m actually hyped for this tournament. and for once it’s for something that i feel they won’t totally let me down on because holy shit if they fuck up the literal premise of this tournament this show is officially garbage. I just think its super cool that this is gonna be a type of battle we’ve never seen in dragonball before. i mean yeah not even the best animated shows have the budget for 80 people rushing each other at once- it’s obviously gonna get broken down into smaller chunks but there oughta be at least a little less one v one fights while everyone else stands around and watches. It should be especially interesting to see how our home team works together and analyzes/utilizes each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
Not gonna lie, I’m kind of intrigued by the Royal Rumble rules here.
(Well, I guess it’s not really a Royal Rumble, since all 80 guys will start at the same time. It’s more like WCW World War 3, but most people probably don’t know what that is.)
I’m not sure it’s a good idea to do it this way, but I have no idea how they plan to execute the concept, so even if they screw it up it should still be interesting. My guess is they don’t even try to do this in 48 minutes of real time, and we’ll get multiple episodes showing each U7 teammate trying to stay in the game. Like, one episode will be 17 and 18 double teaming a really hard guy for twenty minutes, and the next episode will be Tien playing sniper during the same twenty minutes.
Of course, with the rules being what they are, this could easily go beyond 48 minutes. I figure a lot of the 80 participants get eliminated early, then the strongest fighters just settle into a war of attrition. They don’t have to win, they just have to not lose until the time runs out. But under that strategy, I could see a tie happening. In that case, they’d probably go into some kind of sudden death round, maybe two or three pairs of fighters duking it out to the bitter end. That would suit Goku and Vegeta nicely, although there’s plenty of other ways to play it.
But it’s Dragon Ball Super, so I have to assume they’ll find some way to whiz this. Goku’s entire team gets sidelined with stomach flu the day of the tournament, so he ends up winning the whole thing singlehandedly, except there’s some stupid twist where he doesn’t get a clean win, so even that’s unsatisfying. Then he gets to make a wish on the Super Dragon Balls and he asks the Dragon to tell him what a vagina is because he’s never seen one before.
Nah, I shouldn’t be so negative. They screwed the pooch so many times, they’ve got nowhere to go but up, right? Right?
