Victoire hockey is so strange because the first thing you learn about the team is that it is absolutely stacked with generational talent. And then you find out that they generally play a nice and slow, if somewhat violent, game of hockey, which is kind of strange given the lineup. And THEN you find out this is only the case if the whole team is alive and well and in the game because the second that one of their starting players is injured the rest of the team proceeds to lock in and do insane hockey at a level no one has ever seen before and itās all on the PK because Stace and Roque have been fist fighting in a corner when they arenāt actively handling the puck
I find it so interesting that a show so dedicated to talking about violence against healthcare workers fails to say anything important about sexual harassment of those same people.
We are shown both Mel and McKay getting flirted with by patients and none of these occasions are shown negatively. Mel later calls the thief that shoved her off a stool a ānice distractionā from her deposition. Mckay seems mildly entertained by the flirty old guy and genuinely wants the injured athlete. Trinity mentions patients have flirted with her with no further comment. There are no complex feelings shown about this being a common occurrence for these women. And those are the doctors. Dukeās thing for Vivi is what the nurses get, and it seems the audience is supposed to find it endearing.
Except, there actually was a depiction of sexual harassment explicitly shown as being unwanted in the show. Of course, it was Robby getting verbally harassed by an old woman literally handcuffed to a wheelchair.
Apparently this show prides itself on its realism though.
i hate menstruation
realism is when first week intern whitaker goes through his day teaching others with confidence, not making any big mistakes, having a huge amount of responsibility without crumbling under it at all, giving career advice, and being displayed as far wiser than an intern should be. while senior resident samira mohan makes a fatal mistake, messes up constantly, is barely at any important traumaās or cases, and consistently doubts herself to the point where she thinks she doesnāt belong and is pushed to leave emergency medicine.
okay got it! you guys really worked hard to replicate the real life disadvantages women(of colour) have in medicine, but managed to do so without commenting on it or condemning it in any way! and then you say that there is no such thing as misogyny or unconscious bias going on. great job guys!
i think i like obnoxious satires (bottoms, psych) bc making fun of annoying things is fun but also im aware i can be annoying to and i just cater to my audience
It's just really disappointing to realize that this show doesn't actually think Samira's story and arc is important enough to end.
They set her up for a really hard-hitting climax as all the things she's been dealing with come to a headāthe patients she's struggled to help, her mother's harassment, her fellowship application, Robby's cruel and misogynistic lashing outāand then it just... stops?
Where was the end of her arc? Where was the rest of her story this season? Where was the end of the character's development for the final time that we will see her on this show?
The show thinks Robby is the most important part of this, but he's not. What about the people you have been hurting, Michael? I don't have sympathy for that. I don't like him anymore. I don't want to watch a season of his sad feelings when the coworkers he's victimizing don't even get the dignity of an actual send-off.
Samira, I'm sorry. You deserved better. Supriya Ganesh deserved a helluva lot better.
What a disappointment.
the way that nick sits in the front seat instead of cece in literally episode two. right right right m. im so obsessed with them
oh my god the way nick looks at jess in the very first episode oh i am sick
So youāre telling me Scott has no idea whatās in store for season 3, they donāt have a finalized cast, but they knew Samira just?? Couldnāt be in it??? And when asked why considering sheās still an R4 in November itās that sheās ājust not workingā???
And Iām supposed to buy it? And validate it???
iām still thinking about how they really shouldāve switched mohan and javadiās plot lines this season and had javadi working with orlando and the health insurance issues while having mohan working with roxie.
itās never made sense to me that mohan, whoās a senior resident whoād specifically been researching care for marginalized patients, would know nothing about insurance. but it would make so much sense for javadi and i think that seeing her reaction orlandoās daughter, who seemed close to her age, talking about picking up extra shifts and crowdfunding to cover his medical care wouldāve even more impactful to her character than seeing roxieās sons affected by her dying. bc she really has lived with a lot of privilege and having another girl her age choosing to work more to support her parents wouldāve still gotten her to that point of feeling guilt about wanting to be around her parents less.
and having mohan, whoās lost her father and is actively avoiding her momās calls, confronted with a terminal patient whoās choosing end of life care and seeing her interactions with her sons wouldāve been so interesting through mohanās pov. would she be judgmental bc her dad didnāt have that kind of choice? would it have had a bigger impact on how she was choosing to handle her motherās calls?
they both ended up in the room when orlando came back too! i just feel like it wouldāve been so interesting to see them flipped. idk mohan still couldāve even been consulting on orlandoās case as the senior resident and it wouldāve been better than her just not knowing anything about the reality of health insuranceā¦
whatās funny is how robbie (and a lot of the fandom) acted like al hashimi kept this huge secret for so long, when in reality, she told him within her first shift, and considering the fact that she hadnāt had a seizure in a year, it was fine that she didnāt tell him prior to that. not only this, she also did inform the actual experts on the matter (neuro) and they cleared her to work!!! the moment she realised she was having symptoms, she booked an appointment with her doctor as well!!! she was being vigilant and she asked for help when she thought she would need it and she treated patients Well and still it wasnāt enough
