They’d decided to go back to 2019 for their first date. This turned out to be a bad idea, as they found out over the course of dinner. The waiter didn’t seem to realize they were on a date, thought they were just a group of friends out together. Nora found herself getting increasingly irritated about it, but she tried to enjoy the date anyway. They weren’t going to get another first date, after all, and it had been surprisingly difficult to arrange this one- between all the chaos that happened during missions and outside of them, they didn’t have the time.
Not that they couldn’t have just had a date aboard the Waverider, but they’d wanted to make the first one more special than that. The fact that they’d managed to get time on Valentine’s day was complete coincidence.
The waiter came with the check, and Nate stopped her after he got a look at it. “Excuse me, it looks like you forgot to add the Valentine’s day discount.”
“That’s… only for people out on dates,” the waiter looked apologetic.
Nora had had enough of this. “We are on a date.”
There was an awkward pause. “I’m sorry, I’ll get that fixed right away.”
After the waiter left, Nora sighed. “We wouldn’t be dealing with this if we’d gone on our date somewhere further along in the timeline.”
“It was an honest mistake,” Ray said, but he didn’t look happy about it either.
“I vote we go on a date in the future next time,” Nate stated.
Next time… whenever they got a next time, with their schedules. All the more reason to avoid disasters like this.
“I second that,” she said.
@dccwrarepairswap piece for @spoonietimelordy, prompt was: “Nora/Nate/Ray, fanart or fanfic, It’s our first date and the waiter don’t understand that it’s a date, things get a bit awkward.” None of the prompts I was given were something I could make work as just art, so I ended up including a drabble with it!
