givingmother:
She quickly turns around to face him, and her mind’s suddenly gone almost completely blank, genuinely rather taken aback for a moment or two, an actual prospective, paying guest! A real thing of the past!
“Well, uh, I’m Norma Bates,” and before she even knows it, she’s gently placing her coffee down and reaching straight out to shake the man’s hand, features stretching into the most kindly and welcoming smile she could possibly muster right in the midst of her latest mood swing, “and I’m the owner of the Bates Motel, not too far outta town!”
Might as well at least sell the place, she briefly thinks to herself, not as if they’ve exactly had guests just lining up recently. “I mean, we’re a little bit out of the way. That means there’s no noise though, and, well, we do great coffee, so-”
a offers in return a hearty handshake, the slightest of smiles spreading over his dry lips. he felt in need of either chapstick or a great cup of coffee –– &. her brief mention did just the trick to convince him.
❛ good to know you, norma bates, ❜ he says, releasing his hand and straightening his posture. his proud presence floods with warmness, radiating in such a way that it seemed as if he was bouncing with excitement. ❛ it sounds PERFECT –– i do love myself a quite motel. ❜
❛ dale cooper, ma’am. may i sit here with you ? ❜

he looks up slowly from the ever so mysterious piece of paper folded out before him, filled with code &. encryptions. dale was particularly good at understanding these bits of valuable information –– he’d just wondered if this gentlemen before him was quite as interested as he.
❛ TELL ME . . . do you like RIDDLES ? ❜
@cherrystemmed│❤︎’d this.
it seemed that in the time he’d been spending in the past few days –– after his SUSPENSION from the bureau –– that dale had been neglecting a few other important factors in his life. important factors such as the woman who stood before him –– the miss audrey horne –– who seemed to have a case of some lingering MELANCHOLY that he couldn’t quite dissect.
he raises his hand to cut off any protests, fingers stiff &. side by side. an almost WARNING LOOK is locked in his hazel gaze, before saying,
❛ AUDREY , i simply INSIST that you are in need of a decent lunchtime accompanied by a malt &. a companion who CARES about you. what do you say ? ❜
but I promise you this:
I’ll ALWAYS look out for you.
that’s what I’ll do

OREGON –– land of the HAZELNUT !! dale had only ventured to this great state a couple of times, in the years he took between graduating high school &. entering his adult life in college. he still looks upon it so fondly, for its beauty stunned him at every glance. he wasn’t much of a city man. he enjoyed the country side, the rustic sights &. natural atmosphere. he’d only intended to stay here for a short period of time. not for work –– but to decide if he’d like to look at property. it was easy to consider this brief trip that of a small VACATION.
eyes drifting about, he spots a diner just along the way &. begins to head there. upon entering, he finds his hazel eyes drifting across the room, inhaling the scent of café goods like it was OXYGEN.
❛ EXCUSE ME, do you know of any FINE MOTELS around here ? not too expensive, but not TOO CHEAP ? ❜

DEATHLESS.
the following prompts were taken from the novel deathless by catherynne m. valente, an american novelist & poet. the novel was loosely based on the tale of koschei the deathless, incorporating other elements of russian mythology, & setting it against the backdrop of the russian revolution. feel free to change the pronouns / prompts as you see fit, but be warned – below the cut, it’s quite long !
