I will be moving to a new blog. I’m keeping the same name and layout. But this one is just a secondary blog and honestly, I didn’t think it would get this big. I did it at first because I wanted to separate my hyperfixations fandoms from my other casual reblogs but now I’m starting to get some followers and I wanna follow back so I’m in the middle of changing now. SQUID GAME (2021)
Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, PhD and Sarah Wilson are the loves of my life and I’m very tired of seeing them used as growth pawns and mammified because they don’t fit the white gaze’s form of romantically compatible.
I have so many thoughts on Sharon and Ted being romantically compatible outside of him being her patient and yet all people can say “oh they’re going to be such great friends” or “she’s way too serious”. Its so similar to Sarah and Bucky. My heart can’t take it.
The fandoms and their ability to immediately other black women characters and dehumanize them in order to uplift white characters is old discussion, nothing has changed. The moment a black woman gets on screen the chorus of “oh she’s independent, doesn’t need a man” to “oh she’s definitely a lesbian and even though there’s no woman we want to pair her with…we can see it” to “oh well she’s focused on her friends and helping them get together…” to “wow she listens to ‘insert main character here’ so well and they really love her…such good friends”. Its exhausting. Then they attack black women for wanting a romantic connection with a main character that doesn’t end in ambiguous heart break or death for “story development”. Like we are asking for the bare minimum in storytelling. Something white women, especially cis-white women have gotten time and time again, yet its not for us. And when we try to make our own paths, its ignored or considered not relatable.
These are made up worlds, characters, stories, and romances. It hurts to high hell that people can’t even imagine black women being romantically apart of it. Black women romances are not canon. Black women being dark skinned or plus sized are unrealistic for love. Black women are not valid. This is what we have to hear time and time again. Its absolutely heartbreaking.
Black women characters are not just here for someone else’s growth.
I don’t actually post enough to know how to tag people, but thank you to the black women writers, especially in the MCU fandom, who continuously show up and put their work out there. I appreciate your time and talent so much.
And I know the Ted Lasso fandom is starting to find footing, but the attitudes are already disheartening. If any show could pull off a healthy black woman romance, it’d be Ted and Sharon. They’d do it so well.

I binged watched Ted Lasso in like 2 days and all I could think of while watching the 2nd season is that if Sharon and Rebecca’s actors were switched, how many people would jump on the Sharon x Ted ship.
And yes, we all know the doctor patient issue, but it’s not the only ship with a “problem”. Sam & Rebecca, as cute as they are, have an unbalanced power dynamic. And even tho he is of age, Sam is pretty young.
But if Sharon were played as a white woman, there wouldn’t be as many, “she’s independent” arguments. It would be, “omg the glances 🥵🥺🥺” or “omg he said SWEETHEART!”
Because we’ve all seen ships were the woman is the independent strong, quiet character who falls for the supportive himbo. And the woman is usually white or even racially ambiguous with white features (i.e straight hair, lighter skin, small nose). And I’d still ship them because I am a SLUT for that trope. But it hurts that women that look like me can’t get any love. That their characters are just used as a support or the ✨WISE NO BS ✨ Mammy.
The last time I saw a dark skinned black woman getting loved on was The Walking Dead with Rick & Michonne. Honestly I was shipping it for a while and I didn’t think it was gonna happen. But it DID & 15 year old me was LIVING!!! I literally would not shut up about how Rick looked at Michonne, and how he’d kiss her, stare at her, and caress her face. And I felt so SEEN for the first time!
I want to see black women being loved & cared for. Not just respected or listened too. LOVED! Crushed on! Stared at lovingly! Doesn’t have to be by white men but just in general!
Anywho,
I honestly believe that Sharon x Ted will happen. Not while she’s his therapist, but I think they actually become friends then something more. Partly because of how the characters interact with each other & are written. But also because I don’t think Jason & Bret will disappoint me.
